Term 3 Week 9 and Week 10 - 15th - 26th September 2025

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 10 Term 3 2025!

As we wrap up another busy and rewarding term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences our students will have over the past week—and to thank you, our school community, for your continued support throughout the term.

Tomorrow our Kindergarten students will be participating in an excursion to Oakvale Farm, we look forward to them returning full of stories and smiles. Excursions like these are such valuable opportunities for our youngest learners to explore the world beyond the classroom in a safe, engaging way.

Our Year 6 students will also benefit from a thoughtful and important session with Headspace, helping them to understand the importance of wearing a helmet when bike riding.

Students in Years 3–6 will also be working on a very special collaborative Aboriginal Art project, which will be displayed at our East Lake Macquarie Education Office. We look forward to seeing the final creation which will be truly impressive.

We will be holding our Term 3 Celebration Assembly this Thursday at 9.40. All Caves Beach PS community members are invited to join us to celebrate our student successes.

As we look ahead to the holidays, I’d like to thank all our staff, students and families for a fantastic term. Your dedication and enthusiasm continue to make our school a vibrant and welcoming place for all.

Check-in assessment for Years 3 - 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3, students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

·         The assessment will be scheduled for our Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students during Weeks 6 to 9 (Monday 25 August to Friday 19 September) with a finalisation week in week 10 (22 September to 26 September).

·         All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment during weeks 6 to 9.

Debating

Congratulations to our debaters, who have triumphed in their second round of regionals against Kotara South Public School!

Arguing as the negative team on the topic "That primary schools should let parents come to classes," the students presented a strong and well-structured case, successfully challenging the affirmative's points and demonstrating excellent teamwork and critical thinking.

Their impressive performance has earned them another well-deserved win as they continue to make their school proud in the Premier's Debating Challenge.

Grow Your Mind

As we near closer to our busiest time of year, we might feel tired and stressed. It is extremely important to look after our mental health and the people we care about by being MINDFUL.

We are better friends when we can regulate our emotions. Use the TRAFFIC LIGHT to stop and BREATHE, then use your SENSITIVE OCTOPUS to THINK about how to be kind and compassionate. Then ACT in a thoughtful and caring way.

Top 3 Tips for Holiday reading

It is important for children to continue reading over the summer school holidays to maintain their literacy skills and minimise boredom.

#1 Audiobooks and podcasts

Enjoy listening to reading materials in a fun, entertaining and less stressful way during the holidays or after a busy day. Listening to audiobooks can be done on the go and in long car rides to holiday destinations.

#2 Give your child the agency to choose books for themselves

Great selection of books in the local library and books book and let them find the books that interest them from the land of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, climbing higher and higher on the tree house with Andy Griffiths, epic adventures with Rowan of Rin and Deltora Quest and to many more.

#3 Library crawl

Join the library to access free e-library to select from a wide range of e-Books, eAudiobooks, comics  e-library. https://library.lakemac.com.au/Explore/E-Library  Check out the local library for events and exhibitions. https://library.lakemac.com.au/Events

Happy holiday reading!

Aboriginal News

Stage 3 Aboriginal students sharing their learning about culture at Swansea High School

Kaayi! It was nice to be more connected to my culture, engage with other Aboriginal students and I feel more comfortable with them. These past few weeks, we danced, practised weaving and painted gum tree leaves. I look forward to more exciting activities with the high school group.

I enjoyed being with my friends at Swansea High School and it was pretty cool that we got to meet up with other primary schools.

It was exciting to hear the story about Yidaki and playing the didgeridoo with the high school group in their school assembly.

It was amazing that we learnt how to play different sounds on the didgeridoo and how we got to participate with them.

I look forward to the next time we meet and excited to attend the next big performance at the high school.
