Eastlakes Edition

Term 1 Week 7

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

It has been a really busy and exciting two weeks here at our school!

NAPLAN testing has begun for our Years 3 and 5 students, and we are proud of the effort and resilience shown by our learners during this  assessment period. As you may have been made aware, NAPLAN testing was impacted on the first day (writing assessment) with some technical issues with the national assessment platform. At Eastlakes Public School, our Year 3 and Year 5 students were able to complete their writing assessments without disruption.

We were delighted to host the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) meeting recently, with many attendees, staff, parents and community joining us. We were fortunate enough to have an ex Eastlakes PS student, Pearl, do the acknowledgment to country. These meetings are open to all members of our school community. They are held in Week 6 each term in a different school in our network.

Last night, we shared an amazing Iftar dinner filled with warmth and friendship. The atmosphere was truly special, bringing together so many people in connection and celebration. Thank you all for your participation and for demonstrating the strength of our school community in how we celebrate and respect the diversity of cultures and faiths that make up EPS.

Stage 1 students had a fantastic time out in the community, visiting the Light Horse Reserve as part of their history learning journey. Experiences like these help bring learning to life and deepen students’ understanding of historical concepts.

Tomorrow is International Day of Mathematics, recognising the incredible impact mathematics has on innovation, society, and advancements in science and technology. Maths really is everywhere, and this day reminds us of its importance in our lives and futures. Here are some ideas you can use with your children at home: #everyday-learner

On a personal note, I am honoured to have recently received the Heffron Local Woman of the Year award. Thank you to Mr Ron Hoenig MP, who nominated me for this award for my work as Principal at Eastlakes PS ronhoenig.  It is a privilege to serve this wonderful school community, and I thank you all for your ongoing support.
