Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.
NEWSLETTER WEEK 10
Reflecting on the first semester it has been filled with exciting learning opportunities, enriching experiences and significant achievements for our staff and students. Our students have shown incredible growth and enthusiasm in their academic and extracurricular programs. Although, literacy and numeracy have continued to be a focus in the classroom with the implementation of the new syllabuses our students have also been supported by several specialist programs. These include, the MultiLit, MiniLit and Macqlit reading intervention programs which develop foundation phonics and reading strategies, the Maths Olympiad and Maths Games that have challenged students' problem-solving skills and will continue next term with Mr Bancks, and the NAPLAN Assessment schedule which will help us determine some new areas of focus early in Term 3.
Our K-2 students have enjoyed weekly music lessons with our specialist music teacher, Jen McLachlan. Years 3-6 have produced many wonderful artworks with Alison Cole as part of the Visual Arts program.
One of the highlights has been our continued commitment to fostering multicultural and inclusive programs. A special visit from Mitch Tambo a First Nations performer who shared his culture through music, dance and storytelling for the whole school allowed our students the opportunity to share in the learning of unique cultures and traditions.
Throughout Semester 1, students continued to participate and enjoy many sporting and physical education opportunities. Both the swimming and cross-country carnivals were great days and produced many excellent results. Several of our students went on to compete at zone, regional and even state championships. Friday PSSA has also provided a regular opportunity (weather permitting) for our senior students to compete against other local schools in soccer, netball and touch football. Swim school for Years 2 and 3, gymnastics and outdoor education camps have all kept our students challenged and motivated.
Earlier this week, Semester 1 reports were sent home. All students can be very proud of the progress they have made throughout the first half of the year. Ms Bryant and I enjoyed reading the detailed general comments written by class teachers. These comments reflected the knowledge and understanding teachers have of their students and where the students are heading with their learning.
As we approach a well-deserved break, I encourage you to spend quality time with your families, enjoy some rest, and recharge for the upcoming term. I would like to extend a sincere thanks to our teaching, non-teaching and support staff who continue to work hard every day to improve outcomes for our students. The staff value the positive partnerships we have with families and the contribution parents are making to our school community.
We look forward to welcoming our students back with renewed energy and enthusiasm in Term 3 which begins on Tuesday 23 July.
