2023 Term 4 Issue #12

From the Principal

Dear families & friends,

It has been another busy year at Felixstow. Our team has again taken on all the challenges thrown our way with care and compassion.

It was unfortunate that we had to cancel our End of Year celebration due to the stormy weather. We will just have to make next year’s even better!

Farewell Chantal

We say farewell this week to several families, some who have been part of our community for many years and some staff who have also been part of Felixstow for a number of years.

We farewell this week from our staff team Nicole, Lauren and Jenny as previously mentioned.

We also sadly say farewell to Chantal Rainsford. Chantal has won a full time Assistant Principal role at a site much closer to home after being with us now for 6 years, since 2017, in our Inclusion and Wellbeing teacher and coordinator role.

Many families have been supported by Chantal's knowledge and expertise to access supports, funding and resources for their children both in and out of school. Our staff, and myself, have also been supported by Chantal in developing One Plans, resources for students, coordinating Naplan, PAT, WEC and other whole school assessments, coordinating mentors, therapist programs, interventions, our breakfast programs and many other roles. She has been a strong part of our Felixstow family and we will all miss her greatly.

I am sure that you will all give her a warm farewell and thank her for everything she has brought to our community.

Thank you Chantal and we wish you all the best for your future and we hope to see you again.

Well done everyone on another great year at FPS!

Volunteers—We thank all our volunteers that have worked with us this year. We were able to bring more and more of you in as the year has gone on and we are hoping to continue to increase our volunteer involvement next year, so if you are keen please contact Di or Gillian to learn about becoming a volunteer. Each volunteer must have from RAN training (online), a current Working with Children Clearance.

 2023 class arrangements—

In 2024 we will be moving back to our original model (Pre-Covid) of a Junior and a Primary group with 2 teachers in each group supporting all students. The teachers will plan, work and assess as a team providing more opportunity for students to have their learning and social needs catered for. Learning at FPS gives children opportunities to learn with their class and with children from across the school in many curriculum areas such as Home Group, Investigation and Inquiry.

Students will be allocated a ‘key contact teacher’ who will be your main contact teacher for your child. A letter would have come home with your child yesterday outlining class structures.

Our classes next year will be:

Juniors Program – Reception to year 3 with Juniper van den Ende,   Camille Jenkinson & Emma Willacy

Primary Program – Year 3 to 6 with Steve Partridge & Laura    Batchford

2023 Leavers—It is that time again where we farewell our leavers and some of their families. We have watched them grow, we have laughed and cried with them and challenged them to be the best version of themselves they can be. We know they are ready to take on the next challenge with strength and pride in themselves. We wish them every success in the future.

As we head into the holiday season please stay safe and enjoy many peaceful and joyful moments with your loved ones and we will see you all on Monday 29th January for Day 1, 2024.

Cheers Skye 😊

ARTWORKS

The year 6's have created a symbolic mural artwork for their leavers art. They designed it themselves and painted it onto the ramp pavement next to the basketball court. It can be interpreted as 'rivers intertwining' or 'ropes tied together', representing their shared journeys as well as their individuality and new ventures after primary school. Please check it out next time you are here!

The Stobie pole art is now complete! The artwork shows a variety of native Australian animals that can be found in our local area. Students designed the artworks themselves in groups of 3 and then created them with the support of Stuart Alison from Carclew's Aboriginal Artists in Schools Program. The project was funded by the City of Norwood Payneham and Saint Peters' Community Grant.

Year 6 Aquatics

It was a great day at West Lakes Aquatics for our Year 6 students.

Along with a day of  sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and boogie boarding, students also learnt about surf safety and skills 🚣

R - 5 Swimming

We had great weather for our swimming week this year (until the storms hit on Friday!). Every day the R - 5 groups caught the public bus to Norwood Swimming Centre for swimming lessons to learn about swim safety.
