Eastlakes Edition

Term 3 Week 3

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

Celebrating Public Education Week and Upcoming Events

What a wonderful and eventful Public Education Week we have just enjoyed at our school! It’s been a fantastic opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate everything our public education system offers.

Throughout the week, many of you joined us for open classrooms, where you could see firsthand the incredible learning happening every day. Our Dream Big Dress Up Day was a fun occasion, inspiring our students to think about their futures and the possibilities ahead.

We were delighted to welcome children from Noah’s Ark Preschool to visit our Kindergarten classrooms, fostering early friendships and excitement for school. Our Learning Labs showcased the creativity and curiosity of our students via social media, and our Stage 3 students took on the exciting STEAM Challenge at JJ Cahill, demonstrating their problem-solving and teamwork skills.

We are very proud of all our student achievements. This week during Public Education Week we were especially proud of our student  representatives at the Premier’s Spelling Bee Regional Final. Congratulations to Cheriya from class 6-5T, who won the Premier’s Spelling Bee regional final and will now advance to the next stage of competition. Hasan from 5-4S also performed exceptionally well, finishing fourth in his category,  an excellent accomplishment.

Public education is incredibly important because it provides every child the chance to learn, grow, and thrive, no matter their background. It helps build vital skills like reading, writing, problem-solving, and cooperation, while also teaching respect and understanding for diverse cultures and ideas. When every child attends school, we contribute to a fairer and brighter future for all.

This year’s Public Education Week theme, “Inspiring Excellence,” reminded us that excellence is not about perfection but about always doing our best, persevering, and embracing new learning experiences. It reflects how students, teachers, and our entire school community can inspire one another to reach their highest potential and be proud of what we accomplish together.

As the principal of this excellent public school, and someone who has benefited from a lifelong public education, I feel privileged to be part of such a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Looking ahead, we have several student activities planned: National Science Week and the Bullying No Way! National Week of Action are coming up, along with another Cakes and Cookies Stall hosted by 3K and KA classes, and a Stage 3 excursion to Urban Greens. We will share more details through Audiri and the Parent Portal in Sentral.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and for helping make Public Education Week a memorable time. Together, we continue to inspire excellence in every child.
