Drummoyne Public School

Term 1 Week 10 Newsletter - Friday 5 April 2024

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Drummoyne PS Community,

Peer Support Program

Next term, our school will be implementing the Peer Support Program as part of efforts to continually improve student wellbeing and engagement at school. The Peer Support Program empowers pairs of Stage 3 students to lead small groups of students from across the entire school through learning activities designed to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to maintain friendships and interact with one another in a friendly and positive way. The program builds connections across the school community, while also teaching students a range of social and emotional literacy skills.

Throughout the term, all of our students will meet weekly with the same small group. They will be provided with the opportunity to explore relationships in a safe, supportive environment with Stage 3 Peer leaders providing guidance and support for younger students, allowing them to share with others, have fun and make a contribution.

I look forward to sharing success stories from the program with you all next term.

School Band Open Rehearsals

I was pleased and proud to be able to attend an open rehearsal for our Junior Band this morning. As I watched our budding musicians explore their instruments and perform with their peers,  I was reminded once again of the profound importance of music and band programs in our primary schools. Beyond the rhythm and melodies, I saw students developing invaluable skills such as teamwork, discipline, and self-expression. Engaging in music fosters creativity, boosts confidence, and cultivates a sense of belonging among our students that they will carry with them into their adult lives. I am very keen to see the band/music program at Drummoyne PS continue to grow and thrive and encourage you to see how your child/ren can get involved by visiting our bands’ website,
https://directionsinmusic.com.au/drummoyne-ps-1. If you’re still undecided, our senior band will be holding their open rehearsal on Monday (8/4) morning at 8am and all parents and students are more than welcome to come along.

Regards,

John Nguyen

FROM THE DEPUTY'S DESK

Student Health

As we head into the cooler months of the year, students may be more prone to developing colds and flu. We have recently had several students quite unwell with fever and cough symptoms, needing to be away from school for an extended period.

Thank you to the families who have kept us informed of their condition. Please let your child's teacher or the office know if your child is away sick and to continue to monitor for symptoms.

Class of the Week - 5/6P

Our Portraits

Students in class 5/6P recently created some great two sided self portraits. On one side students have depicted how they are seen by others - this is their outer self.  On the other side they have depicted their inner self showing what makes them tick, their thoughts, feelings, likes and dislikes.

These colourful and creative portraits are on display outside the deputy principal's office.

PBL AWARDS

Principal's Awards and Principal's Badges

Students receive values certificates from their teachers throughout the year for demonstrating our values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

Once a student receives 5 values certificates, they are able to trade them in at the school office for a Principal's Award.  The 5 values certificates can be a combination of the 3 school values and come from any year the student has been in.

Once the student has received 3 Principal's Awards, they can bring those 3 awards to the school office and choose their Principal's Badge from one of the 3 values.
