Term 2 - Week 2 (9th April, 2025)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

A Prayer for our new Pope: Leo XIV

Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love.

Focus Value: : Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

Keeping WA Kids Safe Incursion

The students in Years 1-3 had Kidsafe WA come to visit last Friday to teach them about injury prevention, in particular they learnt about road safety, poison safety, burns safety and play safety.

"You Are A Doughnut" Production

The children from PP to Year 6 walked to the Theatre on Tuesday and were entertained by a wonderful, informative, at times gross, but ultimately funny Play on how our bodies digest food.

Mother’s Day

Once again, we had a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration this morning. Special thanks to Hannah and the P&F for organising the brilliant Mother’s Day raffle, which sold out in record time again. We send our special thanks to all the businesses and parents who donated prizes for the raffle and extend our thanks to all who bought a ticket, the proceeds go to improving resources here at the school. Thank you to Mrs Riethmuller and her band of helpers for preparing the goodies for morning tea and finally thank you Father for celebrating Mass for us all. Please check out our "Special Events" section for all the details on our prize winners and lots of photos from today!

Walk Safely To School Day - Friday 16th May

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school

• If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop

• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 16 MAY 2025! For more information, visit www.walk.com.au

Recess Study

On the 20th and 21st of May we will have a researcher from the U.S. at St Mary’s conducting a study on student’s perceptions, habits and feelings regarding Recess at School. She will meet with both students and staff to have conversations, which will contribute toward her Dissertation on School Recesses.

School Review

“The students are proud of their school and were extremely proud to share the school story and site.”

God Bless

Mother's Day Mass & Morning Tea

It was wonderful to see the Church was overflowing this morning for our Mother's Day Mass. Thank you to Father Philip for leading us through a lovely Mass and for blessing all our beautiful Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunt's and other significant women in our lives.

Our Mass was followed by a sumptuous Mother's Day morning tea spread in the hall. Thank you to everyone that donated delicious treats!! During the Morning Tea the P&F drew the Mother's Day Raffle. Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors; Sophie Jane Photography, Everlasting Gardenz, AFGRI, Merredin Squash and Fitness and our St Mary's families who donated the fantastic prizes. Thank you also to Hannah Herbert and the P&F for organising the fantastic raffle. Congratulations to our lucky winners:

1st Prize: Danielle Ashwin

2nd Prize: Sophie Alberti

3rd Prize: Jenna Christie

4th Prize: Elisha Cooper

Once morning tea was complete our special guests got to join the children for their morning tea on the lawn. Thank you to Mrs Riethmuller for organising the morning.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors!!

Kindy Mother's Day Pampering Session.

Yesterday the Kindy Class held a Mother's Day Pampering Session for all their lucky Mums. The Kindy was transformed into a Day Spa with a nail salon with all the usual luxury treatments including premium hand washes, massages and deluxe pedicures!

There was also plenty to keep the Mums busy following their pampering session. They could participate in some craft activities including a "Mummy and Me" portrait session and a book mark making station. Or satisfy their sweet tooth with a biscuit decorating session.

Either way they left with full hands and a full heart after the final presentation, which was a video of each child telling them why they loved their Mummy and presenting them with a gift to go home with.

Thank you to Mrs Davis, Mrs Smith, Mrs Ashwin and Miss Hancock for all your hard work in organising such a special event for our all special Mums!!

Class News

Year Five/Six

Welcome Back to Term 2 – Year 5/6 Update!

We are excited to welcome everyone back for what is shaping up to be a fantastic Term 2 in Year 5/6! The students have returned with great energy and enthusiasm, ready to take on new learning adventures.

A warm welcome to Miss Gillett, our wonderful prac teacher who will be joining us for eight weeks. The class is already enjoying her creativity and enthusiasm, and we’re lucky to have her as part of our learning community this term.

This week, we had the chance to visit Cummins Theatre to watch a hilarious and educational play all about ‘being a doughnut’ and the digestive system! The performance had us all laughing while cleverly teaching us how food travels through the body — it’s not every day you get to explore science through comedy and costumes!

We’ve also been thrilled to have our brand-new classroom TV installed. It has already made a big difference to our lessons, with students enjoying vibrant visuals and learning activities — it’s a real game changer for how we learn together.

On a more reflective note, we joined with the school community to commemorate ANZAC Day. Our class showed great respect during the service, and it was a special moment to honour the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women.

Finally, with Mother’s Day coming up this weekend, we’ve been busy preparing a few surprises to show appreciation for the incredible mums and mother figures in our lives. We hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing day filled with love and gratitude.

Here’s to an amazing Term 2!
