A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families,

At Hallett Cove East Primary School, we are committed to delivering a comprehensive education that not only builds knowledge but also empowers our students with the necessary capabilities and dispositions to thrive in their learning.

At our recent student free day, our staff were engaged with learning more about the South Australian Curriculum’s learner dispositions and capabilities and the Department for Education’s innovative AI Curriculum Chat. The AI chat resource helps teachers focus on enhancing the way we design learning experiences, aligned not only to content but also developing essential dispositions to enable students to thrive. This learning is helping us to further strengthen our commitment to Effective Learners—students who are curious, creative, and able to make connection between past and new learning.

A focus in our professional development has been on integrating learning area capabilities and learner dispositions across all curriculum areas. Capabilities such as critical and creative thinking, personal and social capabilities, and social skills are essential for preparing students for life beyond school. Dispositions such as curiosity, resilience, self-reflection, empathy and collaboration enable students to engage meaningfully in learning and adapt to new challenges.

We are committed to exploring a range of teaching practices to ensure that every learning task not only covers important content but also builds these vital skills and qualities in our students. We look forward to continuing this journey, to help every student become a confident and capable learner.

Midyear Student Reports

End of term two student reports will be sent home via email in Week 10. Student reports are designed to provide a clear summary of each student’s learning progress throughout the first half of the year. Reports will include a general comment from the teacher, specific learning comments on English and Mathematics achievement, and learning overviews for all other curriculum areas. These learning area overviews are included so that families can clearly see how achievement has been graded across all learning areas. We encourage you to take the time to review your child’s report and celebrate their achievements and learning this semester as well as supporting them to identify areas of focus for the second half of the year. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please reach out to their class teacher.

Staff updates

As many of you are aware, transition visits have been happening for our mid-year reception children. I am delighted to share that Chloe Baker will be teaching our newest students in the second half of the year. Chloe most recently worked at Karrara Kindergarten and knows many of our new students and their families. Chloe is also a former HCEPS student herself so we are delighted to welcome her to our teaching staff.

I am also really pleased to advise that Simon Wilson has been appointed as Aboriginal Community Education Officer for our school. Simon has had over 15 years of experience, working across many schools within South Australia. Simon is a proud Kamilaroi/Worimi man from New South Wales. He has lived and worked on Kaurna country for many years. We are really pleased to have someone of Simon’s expertise and experience joining our staff.

With regards

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS Community

It has been wonderful to welcome our new Mid-Year Reception students and their families to Hallett Cove East Primary School as we begin our transition program.

Over the past two weeks, we have successfully completed our first two transition visits, providing students with opportunities to become familiar with their new learning environment, routines and staff. These visits are an important part of helping children feel safe, confident and excited about starting school.

Throughout the sessions, students have enjoyed exploring classrooms, participating in learning experiences and building connections with their future classmates and their teacher, Miss Chloe Baker. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow with each visit.

We would like to thank our families for their support and partnership throughout this process. Starting school is a significant milestone, and together we are working to ensure every child experiences a positive and successful transition to school life.

We look forward to welcoming our students back for their final transition visit next week and are excited to officially welcome them to the HCEPS community in Term 3.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

A few words from the Autism Inclusion Teacher

Thank you to those who completed the parent/ carer survey. For the remainder of the year, in weeks 4 and 8 of the school newsletter, I will share information about autism based on those responses.

The resource in the link below provides help and support for parents/caregivers of Autistic children. There are courses, workshops, free articles, and resources that parents/caregivers can access. These resources have been designed by Autistic people and other parents. The content explores autism in general, however, it also covers specific content, such as sensory, social or communication differences. Whether a parent/caregiver is new to the autism journey, or have been walking the journey for a while, there is support available.

Year 6 Hiragana Competition

On Friday 12th of June,  Year 6 students  Izzy, Evan, Kaden, Eleanor, James, Maidie, Willow, and Arianna represented our school at the Year 6  Hiragana Competition at Reynella East College. Both teams showcased their skills in reading the Hiragana characters, with one team placing 1st and the other 3rd in the early rounds, and one team progressing through to the finals. We are proud of their hard work, commitment, and for demonstrating our school values throughout the experience.

Well done to the Hallett Cove East Tsurus and Kitsunes!
