A message from Clare

Good Afternoon Families,

Reconciliation: This week many of the Year Three children celebrated their First Reconciliation. The time preparing for the sacrament has been a great time for all our Middle School children to reflect on the choices they make. Sometimes these choices are not the best and each of us can reconcile with God by thinking about how we can make amends for our choice and what choice we would make next time. It is something we are all called to reflect on. Certificates will be presented at Assembly on the second Monday of term Three. We would love parents to join us for this.

Our Science Expos and Celebrations of Learning have been incredible over the past two weeks. To watch our budding weather forecasters and scientists share their knowledge and expertise has been fantastic. Thank you to our teachers and children who have showcased their learning for Term Two so beautifully.

Family Conferences- Student Led Conferences: In case you missed the Audiri message that went out this week, here it is again

  • Interviews are on Thursday 18th July starting at 1.30 pm

  • Children remain at school for the afternoon

  • Prep to Year 2 children will have the normal Parent-Teacher interview

  • Year 3-6 children will present to their parents plus there will be an opportunity to raise any other concern you have.

  • Please make sure you READ your child's report which went 'live' this Tuesday.

  • Meetings will be 12 minutes

  • Once you have your conference for your child/children, parents are welcome to sign their child out early.

  • All conferences will take place in the Discovery Centre

  • If your child/children has a planned PSG meeting in Weeks 3 or 4 of Term Three, you DO NOT need to book a meeting here.

Please log in to  https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/g4j2x

PSG meetings have been set for Week 3 (Prep to Year 4) and Week 4 (Year 5 and 6) next term. Parents have been sent an individual email with the details for this.

We have four SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS to the end of the school year. Please note them on your calendar:

Monday, 9th September (Term 3)

Monday, 7th October (Term 4)

Monday, 4th November (Term 4)

Monday 25th November: 2025 Planning Day (Term 4)

STAFFING UPDATE:

I am very pleased to announce that Kathryn Fitt is taking some well deserved long service leave for Terms Three and Four. She is making use of a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family as well as utilise some travel plans. Rosa Phillips will step into Kathryn's role whilst she is away. We wish Kathryn a very special leave period with her family.

I too will be taking a short break for eight school days in late July. I will be venturing to the north and some sunshine to meet up with my brother who is visiting from the US. It will be lovely to spend time with him and my family. I’ll be back just in time to pack my bags for the Middle School camp and l’m excited!

THANK YOU… to the staff who turn up every day with optimism and determination to make a difference in the lives of our children. I wish them a very well-earned, restful two weeks ahead.

THANK YOU… to our families who continue to support and build beautiful partnerships between school and home and

THANK YOU… to our most precious children who bring joy and laughter to our hearts and minds. We are so blessed.

Have the very best break. Be safe, be active and have fun. See you all next term.

Faith & Mission News

Reconciliation

We have many of our Year Three students who have made the Sacrament of Reconciliation this week.

Chiara, Brooklyn, Tilly L, Vanessa, Sarah, Olivia, Mitchell, Clem, Jack,
Tilly K, Issy, Madison, Oliver, Ava, Mila and Sophie.

Please continue to keep them in your prayers as they progress on their faith journey.

Term 3 visiting International Students

In Term 3 we will have 2 families join St Luke's for a short term stay.  The families are here during their school holidays and hope to gain an understanding of as well as experience schooling in Australia.

If any family has spare uniform items that can be lent to the students it would be greatly appreciated:  Boys uniform size 10 and Girls uniform size 12.

We are looking forward to meeting the students and families next term.

Seniors Science Expo

This term in Inquiry, senior students have been exploring and learning about Physical and Chemical Science and how change occurs. Over the past weeks our senior students became scientists and tested experiments whilst also writing a science report to document the process and report on their results. Here are some photos along with some findings from 5/6 Magenta…

Katia & Vivienne

♡Rain In Jar♡  how does the coloured water fall through the shaving foam-

Aim: To make rain fall from the shaving cream.

Findings: We found out the blue food dye looks like a lava lamp when it falls through the shaving foam.

Tahlia & Hugo

Battery flashlight

Aim: The aim of the battery flashlight is to make the bulb inside the egg to light up with the battery and wires.

Findings: Something was wrong when we did the experiment because it only worked sometimes.

Ethan & CharleneQuicksand- States of Matter. It went soft when we stirred it slowly and it went hard when we punched it or poked it. Our hypothesis was right and it turned out exactly how we expected
Bella & Olivia

Bouncy egg

Aim- To change the state of the egg, due to chemical reaction.

Findings-  We found out that over time in the vinegar, the eggshell was coming off and floating in the vinegar as a brown kind of colour.

Violet & Billy

Oobleck - States of Matter

Aim: Our aim was to find out why oobleck was 2 states of matter and how does it change between the 2.

Findings: We found out that the more pressure you put on the harder it becomes and the less pressure you apply the softer it becomes. We also found out that Oobleck does not have any chemical change and that any object can sink into Oobleck.

Lizzie & Jayden

♡The Fruit Battery♡ - What can power electrical circuits?

Aim: To investigate different sources that can power a digital clock.

Findings: We found that you need two or more citrus fruits to power a clock.

Max & Lenny

Lemon Battery

ᕙ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ

Aim: Our aim is to find out if a lemon could power a light bulb.

Findings: We found out that the lemons we have at school do not have enough acid so we maybe didn’t have the best lemons for what we wanted to do.

Thomas & Chloe

Rubber Egg

Aim:  The aim of our experiment was to find out the science behind why the egg became rubber.

Findings: We found out that the acetic acid in the vinegar reacted with the calcium in the egg shell and the egg shell dissolved. Then the membrane in the egg hardened in order to protect the egg. Due to the membrane protecting the egg it was hard enough to bounce the egg without it breaking creating a bouncy ball. If you like you can do this with your kids over the holidays or with your grandkids if you like.

Nam  Emily & Noah

A Potato Clock

The Potato clock aim: Our aim was to power our LCD clock with 2 halves of a potato.

The potato clock findings: We found that if you take out one of the zinc plates or forks then the LCD clock wouldn't work or that if the zinc plates aren’t deep enough in the potato.

Ella & Lachie

States of matter - Lava lamp and Oobleck

Our aim was to find out how kinetic energy can change the way different ingredients react. We figured this out by understanding the way our experiments work. During the expo, different classes came to see our experiments and learn more about science.

Mason & Tia

Tornado in a jar

Our aim: learn how the dish washing liquid can affect and transform the water

Our findings: during the expo we realised that to be able to see the tornado we needed to hold the jar up and hold a light next to the jar to see it better.

JensonStates of  Matter: The Aim of this experiment is to demonstrate a way to make an ice stalagmite quicker than a calcite stalagmite which normally takes hundreds of thousands of years to grow.

Safety when riding scooters and bikes to and from school

Children are vulnerable to head injuries and should wear a standard approved bicycle helmet whenever they ride a bike or scooter.

In Victoria, children under the age of 12 may ride on footpaths. They are required to give way to pedestrians and to wheel their bicycles over pedestrian and children’s crossings.

Children aged 12 years or older are required by law to ride on the road.

For the safety of our children riding to and from school,
ensure that they wear an approved bicycle helmet.

2025 ENROLMENTS

We are very keen to accept enrolments now and don’t want anyone missing out. If you know someone who is looking to enrol their child in Prep for 2025 or in other year levels, please encourage them to book a tour and have a chat with me.

Term 2 and 3 WINTER UNIFORMS:

Winter uniform -  As the months get cooler, please make sure your child has his/her school jumper EVERY day. Rain jackets should not be worn in place of a school jumper and are for outside use only.

CHILDREN ARRIVING AFTER THE BELL OR LEAVING EARLY:

As part of our wellbeing care of children at St Luke's, every class engages in a morning routine at 8.50 am.  This quiet, calm time allows children to gather together in a circle, to greet each other by name, to pray and/or enter into some Christian meditation and get ready for the day.  Please make sure you allow enough time to get your child to school BEFORE 8.50 am.

If children arrive after the gate and student entry doors are locked, parents/carers are required to walk their child/ren to the school office and sign them in on the VPass iPad.

If leaving early (before the end of the day), parents/carers are required to sign their child/ren out on the VPASS iPad.

FOOD ALLERGIES:

Allergic reactions to food… can be harmful to our children. For that reason we ask parents to think carefully about what they are packing in their child’s lunch boxes. Occasionally, something might slip through and once aware, we take precautions to ensure the safety of every child. As stated in the Family Handbook 2024:

We are an EGG and NUT free school due to the allergies of children within our community.  We ask that parents respect this request and the potential harm this could do to children if brought to school.

Thank you for your care and attention to this.
