Control Yourself, Not Actions of Others

We do a lot of talking and teaching of Emotional Wellbeing at Peachester SS. A message that underpins a lot of teaching is the link between your feelings to your attitudes and actions.

A big concept but students who blame others for their feelings and therefore their actions have missed the opportunity to influence the person they have the biggest impact on – themselves.

There are many examples of students who have been upset at another individual’s behaviour when they modified their thinking and responses the problem ceased for them. The other child didn’t change one bit but suddenly they were much happier for changing their thinking and the subsequent actions.

I use the example of road rage; we may not control whether someone cuts us off in traffic, but we can decide whether we are going to let their problem be our problem and impact on our day.

New and Prospective Families

It has been gratifying to hear new and prospective families identifying they have heard good things about the school. New families and visitors to our school can draw comparisons to what we have known for a long time now. I am most pleased for the staff involved in the hard work over the years, who have transformed the opportunities and outcomes for our students. I hope students, staff and parents can proudly say they work, learn and are a part of this school.

World Teachers’ Day – Friday 27th October

Our teachers make a difference every day, educating and inspiring.

World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank all of our staff for their important role in our community and for the positive impact they have on the lives of students. This year the theme is to say thank you to our teachers for ‘teaching through every moment’. We can appreciate the many ways our staff provide support and inspiration to our students. At Peachester, we recognise that EVERY staff member is a teacher, EVERY staff member is invaluable in the lives of your children, so we choose to celebrate everyone together on the one day.

This morning the team enjoyed a lovely breakfast together. Thank you to our families for your acknowledgments to our staff too - we have been overwhelmed by lovely well-wishes, emails, cards, notes and small gifts.

Prep Open Day

This Wednesday we again welcomed our pre-preps to school for the morning. It was great to see so many keen faces come and join our class for some play time and stories.

Our next open day is next Wednesday the 3rd of October from 9am. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again then!

Prep Open Sessions

Year 1/2 News

Well swimming has started and we all love it!  The instructors divided us into 3 groups so we can learn what we need to do next to be a good swimmer.  The instructors are all very good teachers and we are learning fast.

We made our final recipe this week – our own favourite mini pizza.  We took photos and made our recipes into books using Book Creator.  It is easy to use and helps you make your own book with pictures, backgrounds, writing and even voice recordings.  Some of us have been having fun, seeing if we can scoop up close to one hundred objects.  See our photos of how close we got. Gee that was a lot of counting Lavina!

In spelling we have been practicing looking up long vowel sounds when we need to spell them.  Here we tried to spell the word ‘light’ using all the sounds that say ‘I’.  When we write them all we can easily see which one looks right.  Nice work Beth.

Year 2/3 News

Time flies when you’re having fun and we have been having some fun in 2/3 this term!

This week we examined different types of soil using magnifying glasses. Students were most excited about wearing gloves. We are starting to see growth with some of our sunflowers even though the hot weather has impacted some of the seedlings.

2/3 are loving learning about poetry. We created and presented an innovation called ‘Creek Cats’. Presenting for the first time was a bit scary but everyone was excited to give it a go.

Year 3/4 News

Our current unit for English is well under way. Our class learning wall is looking fantastic.

Students are required to adapt a poem to make it their own. They need to use the language features and poetic devices from the original.

This week, we created adaptations of the Australian classic “Click go the Shears”.

Students thought of an occupation and then a sound that went with it.

Mr. Laurence wrote an example called “Ssh goes the Teacher”.

Feel free to stop by any time to check out the learning wall and your child’s work.

Sizzle Goes the Pans - by Indigo

Sizzle goes the pans

By Indigo

Out go the food on the wooden shiny, deck

When his pans are wet he looks up on tech

Fixed his pan with a short, pink, blow

Now he wants to go

Sizzle goes the pans sizzle, sizzle, sizzle

Wide are his chips and drinks go fizzle

The chef looks around at his chips and is hoping for a break

And the wicked boss says back to making cakes

In the middle of the store is his might

Woosh Goes the Gymnast - By Olive

Woosh Goes the Gymnast

By Olive

Standing up on the podium with a medal in her hand

Looking around at her excited cheering fans

She smiles around with her first-place medal

Waiting for all her fans to settle

Woosh goes the gymnast woosh, woosh, woosh

Running towards the vault giving it a push

She does her tricks on the beam landing with her arms wide

She starts running on the floor and with another girl she collides

Swish Goes the Artist - by Erika

Swish Goes the Artist.

 by Erika

Out on the deck stands the 60 year old man

Moving his hands and his old rusty cans

Pulling out his very fine thin brush

As he`s a big star in a rush.

Swish goes the artist swish, swish, swish

Moving his brush as quickly as a fish

Plop goes the paint on the paper it goes

He moves his brush like he's ready to pose.

Puts on his apron and his wide old cap

Slaps on the paint like it`s an old ruined map

Stands with his hands on his hips like the old man has very salty chips.

Swish Goes the Paintbrush - by Robyn

Swish Goes the Paintbrush

In the middle of the shop the little, shy boy stands

The artist dances in with lots of brushes in her hands

He asks her for a fish and he’s hoping it looks good

He’s hoping it has fins like all fishes should

Swish goes the paintbrush swish, swish, swish

The little boy is standing there waiting for his fish

The artist looks around for the next brush to try

The little boy asks why she’s using so much dye

The little boy is shocked to see his fish’s colours change

There was a bunch of different colours, it was a really giant range

The paint was going everywhere as it hit the floor with a plip

The painting was looking so good the boy gave her a tip

Splash Goes the Swimmer - by Eliana

Splash Goes the Swimmer

By Eliana

Up on the diving board the young, swimmer stands

Waiting to dive off and hopefully land

She looks around to see lots and lots of eyes

She waits patiently and lets out a sigh

Splash goes the swimmer, splash, splash, splash

“Go!” says the speaker as she starts to dash

She finishes in 1st with a smile on her face

She is happy and proud to finally win a race

Back in the pool to train once again

Trying to get another medal in her hand

Then to go home with a big smile

With other swimmers her name will go in a file

Splash! goes the swimmer splash, splash, splash

“Go!” says the speaker as she starts to dash

She finishes in 1st with a smile on her face

She is happy and proud to finally win a race

Plop Goes the Chocolatier

Plop Goes the Chocolatier

by Zoe

Plop goes the chocolatier plop, plop, plop

Running around in her shop little red and blue shop

The worker looks around as cheeky as he is

He’s hoping not to be caught eating his Wizz Fizz

Out on the floorboard the chocolatier stands

Shocked at what is in the workers hand

she thinks she’s gonna snatch it out

but little does she know he’s gonna work it out.

Year 5/6 News

This fortnight has seen lots of work continued on our English unit, analysing elements of the novel Storm-Boy by Colin Thiele.  We have worked hard through our financial maths element and are now down to numbers and working through word problems.

We saw Miss Berry finish her placement on Wednesday and we wish her luck for the future.

Look out next fortnight for our Premiers Reading Challenge fun photos!
