Eastlakes Edition

Term 2 Week 3

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we move through this term, I want to take a moment to share some important updates and events happening in our school community.

Extra Support in Classrooms

Over the past two weeks, we have been fortunate to welcome additional School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) who have been providing invaluable support in our classrooms. Their presence has allowed us to enhance the learning experiences for all students, particularly those who may need extra assistance. We are grateful for this opportunity organised by Miss Cox and the positive impact it has had on our students' learning.

National Road Safety Week

This week, was National Road Safety Week. It’s a vital reminder for all of us to prioritise safety on the roads. We encourage you to take the time to discuss road safety practices with your children, including the importance of using pedestrian crossings, wearing seatbelts, and being aware of their surroundings. Together, we can help keep our community safe.

Today is Walk Safely to School Day

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school.

• If they get the bus or train, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop.

• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

K-2 Athletics Program - Got Game

Exciting news for our K-2 students! They have recently started their athletics programs, focusing on developing their skills in various sports. This is a fantastic opportunity for our young learners to engage in physical activity, build teamwork skills, and foster a love for sports.

STEAM Challenge at JJ Cahill Memorial High School

Our school is thrilled to be participating in a STEAM Challenge hosted by the local high school. This event will provide a selection of our Stage 3 students with a chance to explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through fun and engaging projects. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to collaborate with peers and experience hands-on learning.

Importance of Daily Attendance

Finally, I want to emphasise the importance of regular school attendance. Every day your child is in school is a chance for them to learn and grow. Consistent attendance not only supports their academic achievement but also helps them develop social skills and build relationships with their peers. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring that your child attends school every day, ready to learn.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement in our school community. Together, we can create a nurturing environment where our students can thrive.

Warm regards,

Anthia Tsantoulis

Principal

Positive Behaviour for Learning

We have relaunched Positive Behaviour for Learning which officially started this week. Our school expectations are:

  • We are respectful
  • We are responsible
  • We are learners

Every student has a goal chart to start collecting stamps for demonstrating our school expectations.

PBL is a whole-school approach to creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate in which all students can learn and develop. PBL is implemented to improve the learning and wellbeing of all students in all school settings. Every part of a school, including the classrooms, corridors, playground and school gates are considered integral to the total learning environment.

The school has a PBL Matrix which supports teachers to teach positive behaviour expected across the school and supports students to learn expected behaviours. A copy has been attached below.
