Eastlakes Edition

Term 2 Week 1

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

Welcome Back – Term 2

Welcome back to all our students and families for Term 2. We have so many exciting events coming up this term and we are looking forward to seeing the wonderful teaching and learning continue across our school.

A special welcome back to Mr Tiley, who has returned from leave after welcoming his son into the world. Congratulations to Mr Tiley and his family on this very special arrival. We would also like to thank Mr O’Connell for starting the year with 6/5T during Mr Tiley’s leave. Mr O’Connell continues to support our students this term and is now teaching 5/4S while Mr Spencer is on leave. We appreciate his ongoing flexibility and commitment to our school community.

We are also pleased to welcome Miss Larissa Vogric, who will be completing her professional experience placement in 6/2MC over the next four weeks. We hope she enjoys her time at Eastlakes Public School working alongside our students and staff.

There are many events happening across the school this term.

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day, a time when we pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country. Throughout this week, students have participated in learning experiences to deepen their understanding of what ANZAC Day means, why we commemorate it, and the important role service personnel played in protecting the rights and freedoms we value today. Students also learned about the significant contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and servicewomen, whose service is an important and respected part of Australia’s history.

In 2026, a public holiday will be observed on Monday 27 April to recognise ANZAC Day. Students and staff will not attend school on this day.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

This week, our school-wide focus is on supporting students to be respectful, responsible learners in the classroom. At Eastlakes Public School, this is what that looks like:

Respectful

  • We look after our classroom
  • We hang our bags on a hook
  • We put our belongings in our bag
  • We listen to all teachers’ instructions

Responsible

  • We are ready to learn
  • We wait our turn to speak
  • We look after our belongings and the belongings of others
  • We are patient when waiting for others

Learners

  • We work together
  • We try our best
  • We stay on task
  • We arrive on time

We appreciate families supporting these expectations at home as we continue to build positive learning habits across our school.

Library News

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is now underway, with students registered online and beginning to record the books they read.

Mrs Sippel has been busy supporting students during library lessons with borrowing and returning books, exploring new texts and continuing to build a love of reading across our school.

If you are unsure how to support your child with recording their books online, please see Mrs Sippel, who will be happy to assist you.
