Principal's Report

Tuesday 23rd May 2023

Hello Everyone,

It is very exciting to be able to write the report for today’s newsletter! It is such a great opportunity to take the reins while Mrs Hyland is on a well-deserved long service leave break. We all wish Mrs. Hyland the very best on her upcoming adventure and we cannot wait to hear how it all goes.  The school is already set up to run very well and, with the support of all the staff, I’m sure this will continue for the next five weeks. If you have any questions, concerns, feedback or ideas please do come and see me, I am more than happy to have a chat about anything.

It has been great to hear so much wonderful feedback from students about the Neon Disco. It would be safe to say that it is one of the highlights of the year. A massive thank you to all the parents who helped out on the night and to FOS for the organisation behind getting the disco running. I have also heard that DJ Dan dropped all the hits on Friday night so a big thank you to him for that!

Tomorrow we send off our two soccer teams to compete against other local schools in the district soccer competition. We have run training sessions this week in preparation for tomorrow. Good luck to all the students who are competing! Can you please make sure you have jumped onto QKR and given permission and paid for this activity if your child is participating?

Next week is National Reconciliation Week. Our Junior School Council have met and decided to commemorate this by holding a ‘Wear It Yellow’ day next Wednesday the 31st of May. This will be a day where we wear yellow and support ‘Children’s Ground’, an organisation aimed at creating a different future for First Nations children. It is wonderful to see our students taking action in such a relevant and important way.

Again, it is enormously exciting for me to be able to support the school in filling in for Mrs Hyland while she is away. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions at all, I am more than happy to have a chat at any time.

Have a great week.

Joe.

From the Office

Hello everyone,

WOW, can you believe we are more than half way through the term and it feels like winter is creeping in on us.  A few quick reminders from the office;

  • We have had some much appreciated feedback on the consenting process on Qkr!. This has been updated and no longer requires parents to fill in as much information.
  • Family statements have been sent home this week.  Any questions, please contact Naomi or myself, we are more than happy to help you 😊

LOOKING FOR A CHESS WIZ

Do you know someone that has a little time they could spare to help students learn to be come a Chess wiz?

We are hoping to book in a group of students to attend the Castelmaine Chess Championship in September.  In order to make this a wonderful and exciting opportunity for students it would be great to have a helping hand to teach the ‘tricks of the trade’.

An hour once a week is all wee need and you will be helping along side a staff member.

- Skoolbag now has a new look and name - AUDIRI. You may have already noticed this, as Skoolbag has officially changed it's branding to Audiri from the 1st May 2023.  The rebranding of the app reflects it's heritage as a communication product, and focuses more on improved technology and streamlined communication between schools and parents. See the attachment below form more information. Parents are not required to do anything, and all past data and information will remain the same.

Wear it Yellow Day - National Reconciliation Week

An initiative of Children’s Ground as part of our National Reconciliation Week this year, on Wednesday 31st May, we are encouraging all students and teachers to take part in a yellow-themed casual dress day (this can be wearing your yellow school uniform shirt, a yellow ribbon or yellow socks) to raise funds for a First Nations organisation, Children’s Ground.

The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2023 is ‘Be a voice for generations.’ This theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and play. That is why our school has chosen to participate in Children’s Ground’s ‘Wear It Yellow’ day.

As part of ‘Wear It Yellow Day’, students will engage with National Reconciliation Week learning materials and have vibrant discussions about First Nations culture and history.

We remind students and teachers who take part to donate what you can to Children’s Ground via this link https://wearityellow.org.au/mount-macedon-primary-school . No donations will be collected by the school directly.

For more information on Children’s Ground, head to https://childrensground.org.au/

MMPS Update by School Reporter Harriet

Welcome to the 5th week of term two. Last week was a really fun week!

On Friday the 19th the school had the neon disco, which is a parent organised event that the students get to enjoy. There was hot party food and everyone enjoyed the music. Thank you to the parents and everyone who helped for the night, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you. Below are some fun photos of the event.

Last week, the grade 2/3s went to an orchestra at Kyneton. Students reported that it was a long, loud and fun show. The electronic show was about how music has changed over time. They really liked the song they listened too, 'The Beat' by Orkestra Llektriq.

Have a good week everyone,

Harriet

Japanese at MMPS

This term all students are learning about the Japanese food culture, and how to use food words in sentences, including foods I like and I don't like.

They are learning the correct pronunciation for the Japanese words and practising reading sentences about food through dialogue with each other. They are practising writing the Japanese sentences by learning and repeating modelled sentence structures.

Below are some photos of students putting what they are learning into practice.

The Beat Excursion

Last Friday the Grade 2/3's attended a Music excursion in Kyneton organised by Ranges Music Network, called The Beat by Orkestra Llektriq. Below are some pictures and accounts of the day from the students:

On Friday all of the Grade 2 and 3s went on an excursion. We went on a bus to the Kyneton Town Hall. There was a sound check and then the show started. It was about sound from the dawn of time to now. It was the best excursion ever. We all liked listening to the music. The Beat was done by Orkestra Llektriq.
