Term 1 Week 4 and Week 5 - 16th - 27th February 2026

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 5 Term 1 Caves Beach Public School for 2026

It has been wonderful to see how well our new Kindergarten students have settled into their classes. This is a tribute to the families and school staff for providing a smooth transition to school. We thank all our parents who were able to attend the Welcome BBQ last week. This was a great opportunity for staff to connect with parents in a relaxed setting. We value these sessions and the connections we can build with parents of our students. If you have any questions that were left unanswered, please contact your child’s teacher for clarification.

Open Day

Today we ran our first Open Day to welcome interested families for kindergarten 2027. The session gave us the opportunity to showcase our school and to answer any question for our prospective families. Our next Open Day session is scheduled for Monday 9th March at 1pm.

Make My Day

Last week I was visited by two very excited students Stella and Arlo from K/1B. They were very proud of their writing and so was I. Congratulations you are super stars!!

School Voluntary Contribution.

As you may be aware, voluntary school contributions play a vital role in enhancing the educational experience we offer our students. These contributions help us provide essential resources, programs, and extracurricular activities that enrich our students' learning environments. They also support special projects and improvements to our facilities.

This year, we are asking for your support through voluntary contributions. Your generous donations will directly benefit our students and help us maintain the high standards of education that we strive for. We understand that every family’s situation is different, and contributions are entirely voluntary. Any amount, large or small, will make a significant difference.

We appreciate that prior to forming classes, several parents made enquiries with staff members about providing additional stationery items such as pencils, pens, scissors, glue sticks, and other materials. We would like to reassure you that these items will be supplied by the school, and they are not an expected additional purchase for students. We do understand that many students prefer to be organised with their own belongings and may feel more comfortable using personal items rather than school resources. While we completely respect this preference, please know that the school will always ensure all necessary materials are provided for your child’s learning.

If you choose to contribute, please find the details below:

• Suggested Contribution Amount: $50

• Payment Methods: Schoolbytes.

We appreciate your consideration and support. Together, we can continue to provide a vibrant and enriching learning environment for our children. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office on 49711838.

Afternoon Dismissal Procedures

At Caves Beach PS we take student safety seriously. In line with this, we have strong afternoon dismissal procedures to support parents to pick up their child safely and without the need to cross roads inappropriately. This includes all students walking from class in a supervised line to the COLA and lining up in stage groups in their specified exit lines, ready to be supervised to several exit points.

1.     Top crossing - Children are escorted out our top pedestrian gate and across the top crossing. This is suitable for families that use the stairs or pathways to the homes behind or south of the school or to meet parents parked opposite the school.

2.     Front gate - Walkers and students on bikes are escorted out the front gate and down to the corner of Rae St and Park Ave. This is suitable for students using the designated crossing to cross Park Ave to homes to the east, south and north. Students should not be crossing Rae St at this point, but be joining the top crossing line to cross safely.

3.     Car lines - Students are supervised to the shelter to sit to wait for parents using the afternoon car pick up system. Parents remain in their cars with their name sign placed for staff to view.

4.     Bus line - Students catching the bus, walkers and students on bikes are supervised in Stage groups to exit the school at Swansea high bus zone. This is suitable for students catching the bus, walking or riding north or meeting parents waiting in vehicles adjacent to Swansea high school oval on the school side of the road. Students should not be crossing at this point but rather join the front gate line to cross safely at the designated crossing.

5.     After school care - Students attending After School Care are supervised by school staff until they are collected by TheirCare staff and supervised over to the “Green Shed”.

Class of the Week

K6L

Our students recently enjoyed a fantastic cooking lesson, working together to measure, mix and create something delicious.

Cooking provides valuable real-world learning, building literacy and numeracy skills while developing teamwork, communication and independence. Experiences like these help our students grow in confidence and connect classroom learning to everyday life.

We’re so proud of the enthusiasm and teamwork shown by our learners.

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is LEADERSHIP. Showing LEADERSHIP means inspiring others by being respectful and confident in group  situations in the classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show LEADERSHIP we use our WISE OWL.

This strength is important for our mental health because we feel proud when we inspire someone.

 You can display LEADERSHIP by:

- being fair when deciding what to do as a group and listening to each  person

- coming up with a game and organizing others to play in a respectful way

Set yourself a ‘LEADERSHIP’ challenge today!

Learning and Support

Did you know?

Regular school attendance is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes.

Caves Beach Public School works in partnership with every parent and caregiver to encourage and support regular attendance of children. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier, and your child will build and maintain friendships. Research has shown that students who attend school regularly are more likely to have positive learning outcomes and success.

Parents or caregivers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day.

Every day counts and there is no ‘safe’ threshold for absences” quoted from Hancock, Shepherd, Lawrence, & Zubrick (2013).

The Education Act 1990 requires that parents ensure their children of compulsory school age are enrolled at, and regularly attend school, or are registered with the NSW Education Standards Authority for home schooling.

Parents must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include being sick or having an infectious disease, an unavoidable medical appointment, urgent family circumstances or recognised religious holiday.

Please speak to your class teacher if you have any concerns about your child attending school regularly.

NSW PSSA Girls Cricket

Emily and Zoey represented the Hunter PSSA team at the NSWPSSA Girls Cricket 2026 State Championships in Armidale this week. The girls played 7 games, over 28 hours of cricket, over 4 days. The Hunter was the only region to nominate two teams in the competition and the calibre of teams and skills from across the State was exceptional. Although the Hunter Gold team finished 14th the girls had a fantastic week. They made new friends, improved their cricket skills and most of all had a lot of fun!
