Congratulations to these students who visited the principal's office this month to celebrate the achievement of a learning goal. 

This week marks a special milestone in Kindergarten—100 days of learning, growing, and connecting at Telopea Public School. Our students have embraced challenges, made new friends, and achieved so much since the first day of term. The 100th day reminds us of how far we’ve come and celebrates the enthusiasm, resilience, and curiosity that fills our classroom every day. To celebrate 100 days of school Kindergarten dressed like 100 year olds and enjoyed many different activities such as making 100 day hats, counting to 100 and making fairy bread using hundreds and thousands. Thank you to our families for their ongoing support as we continue this exciting journey together. Here’s to the next 100 days—and beyond!

Our end-of-term Crazy Socks & Churros Day was a fantastic success, bringing our school together for a fun-filled day while supporting a wonderful cause.

Students certainly put their best foot forward, proudly wearing their brightest, wackiest and most colourful socks. The delicious churros were a huge hit, with plenty of happy smiles and sticky chocolate fingers seen throughout the day!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our students and families, we raised a fantastic amount for Stewart House, helping to support children and families in need.

A special thank you goes to our dedicated SRC members for their hard work in organising and running the fundraiser.

On the 22nd June 2026, Bella Vista Public School’s Concert Band, String Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble presented a short musical performance. The performance was exceptional, with the Concert, String and Chamber Ensembles all giving separate songs and performances. It was quite a surprise, for we were not notified of this special event taking place at our school. The songs that were played during this rare occasion were Latin Fire, Very Cross Buns and New York New York by the Concert band, Skeleton Waltz and Ghostbusters by the String Ensemble, and Ave Maria by the Chamber Ensemble. The lovely conductors were Mr Clark for both Concert and Chamber Ensemble and Miss Fiona for the Strings. The variety of instruments for all the different bands were extraordinary with instruments such as trumpets, tubas, flutes, trombone, saxophone, drums, and marimbas for the Concert band, violins and cellos for the Strings, and a different mix of the strings and concert instruments for the Chamber Ensemble. After the performance, our school captains, Youssef and Pippa said a few words to thank the school for their performance. The principal of Bella Vista Public School, Mr Danby, then gave a few words about how he used to work at Telopea Public School, and the concert ended.

The Premier's Spelling Bee is an opportunity for prodigy spellers to battle it out to try and progress to the next round. The spelling bee is actually one of the only academic experiences provided by the NSW government, and our rich opportunities for sport largely outnumbers the academic potential of our spellers. In this Spelling Bee, spellers from every class are challenged to try and spell correctly. Every round, the words progressively get harder and harder until only two people are left, and another round is initiated to figure out who is the winner and runner-up of each class. Both the winner and runner-up go into the next round, to go against the winners of the other classes. During the time where every winner of every class competes, everyone else will sit in front of the spelling winners who are trying to make it to the next round. After someone wins the Spelling Bee round 2, they progress to the next round against the top spellers from other schools. The spellers are separated into junior and senior, and the junior speller for our school is Burhan, and the senior speller for our school is Alanna. These two people will now be representing Telopea Public School in the next round of the Premier Spelling.

At the end of Term 2, students from K-6 were treated to two engaging incursions run by Sydney Water. Our K-2 students learned about the importance of water conservation through interactive activities, while students in Years 3-6 explored both the natural water cycle and the urban water cycle. These sessions not only deepened students’ understanding of where our water comes from and how it is managed, but also highlighted ways everyone can help protect this precious resource. The students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience and were excited to share their newfound knowledge. We thank Sydney Water for inspiring our school community to be mindful water users!

On Monday, between Week 6 and 11, Years 3-6 participated in a netball clinic. In the clinic, classes learned how to play netball and practiced vital skills. Netball is a ball sport where there are 2 teams of 7 players. The players have different positions and are restricted to certain parts of the court, and must work in unison to drive the ball down the court and score a goal. Players also can not run with the ball, and can only hold the ball for 3 seconds. Netball is also a non-contact sport, meaning that players stay 3 feet apart. All students developed their skills in this fun sport and enjoyed doing new activities with their classmates.

The Travel Mode Survey is a survey conducted by the Department of Education that is distributed to all public schools. The survey will ask students about their type of travel used to get to and from school in the morning and afternoon.

As part of the survey collection, classroom teachers will conduct a hands up activity where the teacher will ask students specific questions about their mode of transport used to get to and from school in the morning and afternoon. Students will be asked by the teacher to raise their hand when the teacher describes the mode of transport that the student used on the day of the survey to get to and from school. The teacher will record the number of students that have their hands up for each question in the survey.

The student personal information collected by the department through this survey will be de-identified.

The survey collects the following information from students

• The number of students present in the classroom on the day of the survey.
• The number of students absent on the day of the survey.
• How students travelled to and from school on the date of the survey (e.g, Walking, Cycling, Bus, Car etc).
• Any issues or complaints that students have in relation to travel modes to school.

The purpose of the survey is to collect data on how students and teachers get to and from school to inform department infrastructure projects and transport strategies and services.

The department may share the de-identified results of the survey with other government agencies, relevant local councils and relevant Transport service providers to help inform transport provision, strategies and infrastructure projects.

The department uses Qualtrics (a third-party software provider) to conduct the survey by collecting and storing the survey data.  Qualtrics will not access the survey responses. Please see Qualtrics’s Privacy Statement and Cookie Statement for further information.

Yes. Student participation in the survey is voluntary.  By completing this survey, you understand and consent to Qualtrics collecting and storing the survey responses and to the department accessing, using, disclosing and storing the survey responses.

Our school is located close to the light rail, so Rail Safety Week is a timely opportunity to remind children how to travel safely. Light rail vehicles are large and heavy. They cannot swerve and may take longer to stop than children expect.

Please remind your child to stop, look, listen and look up near light rail tracks; use designated crossings; follow the signals; and remain a safe distance from the platform edge. Whether walking, cycling or using a scooter, paying attention around the light rail can help keep everyone safe.

Dear SaCC and TPS Communities,

Term 3 is well underway with three weeks of busy schedule under our belts. The SaCC Project bustles along supporting the SaCC community of parents and carers with children up to five years as well as support of Telopea Public School and its events, most recently the Education Week Open Classrooms and Art Show. We can all agree this was a spectacular event with weather to match. It was heartwarming to see so many families join the event providing the opportunity for students and teachers to showcase their hard work. I particularly enjoyed welcoming families who attend SaCC initiatives to our school... some of whom don't yet have children in primary school. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Sam and Peter from Grandma's Secret Orchard who kindly, and without hesitation, donated the sausages and bread rolls for the sausage sizzle we all enjoyed. THANK YOU Grandma's Secret Orchard!

A quick refresher about the SaCC Project initiatives you may like to join with your under five year old children.

• Supported Playgroup every Friday 9:45am-12:00

In recent weeks the SaCC Project has facilitated the delivery of Baby First Aid awareness classes. Paramedics from Helping Hands delivered three hands on practical sessions, supporting new parents in the event of emergency events with their babies.

COLLECTING STUDENTS FROM SCHOOL

A reminder that if you have made arrangements for someone to collect your child/ren that is outside of your normal arrangements, please ensure that you have notified the office so we are aware and can let other staff members know in a timely manner.  This applies to leaving early and for the end of the day. 

SAFETY

A reminder to all students and parents that entry to the School is via the Pedestrian gate on Chestnut Ave located near Block D. This is for everyone's safety. If you require disabled access there are two entry points into the school via the ramp into the school office and via the gate on the corner of Sturt and Manson Streets. 

NOTES SENT HOME

On occasion important notes will be sent home. Please ensure you remember to check your child's bag each day.

CELEBRATIONS

Here at TPS we enjoy celebrating student’s birthdays. You are most welcome to bring in something to celebrate but we ask that individual store bought small bite size cupcakes or individually wrapped sweets are brought in to school as this makes it easier for the students to eat. A large cake makes it difficult to distribute to their classmates. 

LOST PROPERTY

There are a number of items in the Lost Property box which do not have names on them. If your child is missing an item, please check this box which is located in the D Block breezeway.

CONTACT INFORMATION OR CIRCUMSTANCE CHANGE

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date. It is important that the School be able to contact you in case of your child being ill, a child not being collected from school or in case of emergency etc. If your family circumstances change, please also provide the school with any updated documentation. 

You can notify the school of any changes or updates via written confirmation or complete the template form located in the office foyer. 

MOBILE PHONES OR DEVICES

If you require your child to carry a mobile phone/device, you will be required to complete a permission note (please see the school office if you require this note). Student mobile phones/device are to be turned off and handed to the school office during school hours in the morning. Mobile phones/devices will be returned to the students at the end of each day. 

Jubilee Community Services provide Before School, After School and Vacation Care Services.
