2024 Class Placement

Thank you to all the parents that have emailed or met with me to discuss class placement for 2024 over the last few weeks. I have started to meet with our staff to discuss plans for next year and once we have confirmed all of our 2024 Kinder enrolments, we will have an idea of class structures to then match staff against.

In a small school, I have a small staffing allocation to work with, resulting in many part time positions to consider along with many other factors such as any planned leave for 2024, staff expertise and above all what is best for the kids we teach.

Many parents have made requests to have individual teachers already, and while I can consider all feedback, I can't ensure every individual request is met without impacting the request of another but I am happy to listen and take on feedback as best I can with an open mind. All of our teachers are passionate educators who have unique skills, which is why planning staffing arrangements for the following year is always challenging to make decisions that will have the greatest impact for our students and overall, the school.

I will make some announcements in Term 4 via the newsletter, so please stay tuned!

Enrol now for 2024 at KVPS!

To assist with planning class structures for 2024, we really need to confirm how many Kindergarten students plan to attend next year via the online enrolment process: https://kangaroova-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html

Save the Dates:

Parent Information Session Wednesday 25th October, commencing at  2pm

Kinder Orientation Sessions for children will be held on Thursdays 26th October, 2nd November and 9th November from 9:30-11am. Children are encouraged to attend all three sessions.

New Computers

We have a new class set of Acer Travelmate laptop computers on their way to be used by our 3-6 students who I am sure will contest the need for an updated model! We received 16 with our school allocation points, and have purchased an additional 11 computers with school funds to make a class set available. We hope that for our older students having updated technology and one-to-one device access when it is needed in the classroom will better prepare our students for High School.

SkoolBag/Audiri to School Bytes Transition

Thanks for all the feedback about the transition to our new School Bytes System. To answer the question... Why did we have to change? I completely understand, no one likes change, but in order to move towards something that offered everything we need, we had to make a change.

All schools needed to replace a number of their attendance and finance systems with a new provider and we also considered many of the requests of parents to move payments and permission notes online so we chose something that would be able to meet all of our needs.

Where's the App?

At the moment, we don't have an App for School Bytes, its only a parent portal on the School Bytes website. We are looking into an App that is compatible with School Bytes called My Family Hand which we hope may offer some of the features of the app that parents liked with Schoolbag/Audiri.

4/5/6 Assembly

Our 4/5/6 students will be hosting our next whole school assembly on Wednesday 16th August commencing at 2:30pm so please come along to enjoy some class items prepared by our students in 4/5/6RD.

Science Week

This week we will be celebrating Science Week with a range of different Science themed activities at school. On Friday 18th August we will be visiting Science Space in Wollongong to see the Solar System Expedition Planetarium Show, Physical Phenomena Show, STEM Challenges and time to explore the exhibits. We will be departing at 9:30am so please arrive at normal time (on or before the bell at 9:15am) to ensure you don't miss the bus!

We will have some fun activities on every lunch time in the hall or library for Science Week so please have a close look at our Science Week Timetable! On Wednesday, students can bring in a Science themed book and on Thursday, students can bring in a simple Science Experiment if they wish to take part in a Science Show. Any interested students can watch the science show.

Book Week Street Character Parade

The Book Week Character street parade will be held on Tuesday 22nd August commencing at 9:30am. We invite parents, grandparents and community members to line the streets of Moss Vale Road to see our costumes. Can you guess what our staff theme will be this year?

'Rally as One' Family Fun Day

With thanks to the Australian Tennis Federation supporting bushfire affected communities, Kate will be organising a 'Rally as One' end of term Family Fun Day on Friday 22nd September 11am-1pm at the KV Tennis Club, Broughton St, KV - ALL WELCOME!

  • Enjoy all your favourite tennis games with friends & family
  • Other fun activities, games and sports
  • FREE BBQ for lunch
  • Celebrate the end of term with the whole school community

Folk Festival

In Week 2 of Term 4, students are invited to be part of the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival on Saturday 21st October from 10.30-11am in the Marquee. As this is just after the school holidays, it makes it tricky for preparations so we will need to start preparing now. We will need to ensure any student who would like to perform individually, or in a small group as part of the school time slot, lets us know - student names, item details including any backing tracks that might be needed and song choice.

Please email me to express interest in performing on the day as an individual or small group jennifer.arnott3@det.nsw.edu.au

See you in Green and Gold on Wednesday - You've got this Matildas!

School road safety reminder – Term 3. Road rules: children’s crossings and pedestrian crossings

Children's crossings

Children's crossings are usually part-time crossings that operate before and after school hours, or at other times that may be approved by local councils. Aside from these times, the area is not a pedestrian crossing. When in use, orange flags displaying the words CHILDREN CROSSING are used. Drivers must slow down and halt before the stop line when a pedestrian is on the crossing or waiting to cross – and remain stopped until all pedestrians leave the crossing.

Children's crossings and pedestrian crossings

This animation highlights the difference between children’s crossings and pedestrian crossings, and what motorists need to do on approach to each type of crossing.
