From the Principal

Principal Position

It is with great joy that I announce to the Telopea community that I have been appointed as the permanent principal of Telopea Public School. It has been an honour to relieve in this position since 2023. I feel a sense of incredible privilege that you as a Telopea community have put your trust in me as your leader moving forward. I am so optimistic about the future and of what we can achieve by walking together. Let’s continue to build a school where equity and excellence are not just words, but the foundation of everything we do.

Education Week

A sincere thank you to all students, staff, family and community members who joined us for our Education Week & Book Week Open Day last Friday. It was a wonderful celebration of our beautiful school and of the excellence in teaching and learning that goes on each and every day.

All purchases made help the school earn REWARD POINTS which allows us to purchase new resources for the library.

Celebrating student learning

Congratulations to these students who have achieved a learning goal and have proudly shared this achievement with Mrs Dooley in the Principal's office this month.

Celebrating 100 Days of Kindy!

Our kindergarten students have reached an exciting milestone—100 days of learning, growing, and having fun! This special day was filled with engaging activities, creative projects, and plenty of smiles as our young learners explored numbers, counted collections and even got to make Fairy Bread using hundreds and thousands!  Congratulations to our kindergartners on reaching 100 days of school—here’s to many more days of discovery and joy!

Motiv8Sports Fun Day

Telopea Public School were lucky enough to secure a free fun day thanks to Parramatta Council, the Parramatta Eels & Motiv8 Sports. The students had a great time rotating though the activities and challenges. Go team Telopea!

Student Attendance

We continue our focus on aiming high for improved attendance at school. Our Term 3 attendance rate is currently 89.08% which is lower than hoped. Please remember that school continues rain, hail or shine!

Congratulations to these classes with the best attendance in recent weeks:

Week 2 - Year 1/2 Quokkas

Week 3 - Year 1 Bandicoots

Library News

To kick off our Book Week and Education Week celebrations we have been entertained by Perform Education who came to our school to present an action-packed interactive adventure, exploring themes of sustainability and our relationship with the natural environment, as well as celebrating how books and reading create understanding and bring people of different backgrounds together. Our students loved seeing a live performance at school!

Book Week Parade - Book an Adventure

On Friday 15th August we celebrated Book Week with an assembly and parade. It was wonderful to see a celebration of reading and a love for books! Books really do take you on an Adventure!

Thank you

Mrs Ramsey

What's Happening Year 6 Emus

In Year 6 Emus we have been making the most of our last year of primary school.

In maths, we have been mastering fractions and decimals, as well as calculating angles by using our geometric knowledge and mathematical reasoning.

In English we have been writing persuasive and informative texts. By the end of week 3, most of our class could write a persuasive text that met all the teacher’s criteria in under 20.

We have been learning lots of skills and sports as part of the SportsPro program. We really enjoyed our game of netball last week and we are looking forward to learning something new this week.

We have also been doing art with a focus on objects and painting, and coding and robotics for science and technology.

Year 6 are having a fantastic year so far and we are excited to see what comes next.

P&C Association News

Over the past 12 months, the Telopea Public School P&C Committee — with the incredible support of our school community — has been able to deliver a range of fantastic resources and facilities that benefit all our students.

Thanks to your participation in our fundraising efforts, we’ve been able to:

Support our Year 6 students of 2024 with their special graduation celebrations.

Contribute $500 towards an outdoor table tennis table, giving students a fun and active space to enjoy.

Provide $600 for a new greenhouse, helping bring hands-on learning to life in our school’s teaching garden.

Donate $300 towards new books for the school library, expanding the worlds our children can explore through reading.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity, time, and enthusiasm of our parents, carers, and community members. You have truly made a difference in the lives of our students.Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue working together to raise funds for even more valuable resources and projects.

If you’d like to have a say in future initiatives and be part of the team shaping these opportunities, we’d love for you to join our P&C. New members are always welcome — your ideas, energy, and voice matter.

If you’re interested in joining, simply fill out the application form and come along to our next meeting on September 10th.Together, we can make Telopea Public School an even more inspiring place for our children to learn and grow.

School Uniform

A reminder that we encourage all students to wear full school uniform each day. Students in uniform have an improved sense of belonging to the school. Plese see the photo below for acceptable Winter uniform items of clothing.

Important Reminders

COLLECTING STUDENTS FROM SCHOOL

A reminder that if you have made arrangements for someone to collect your child/ren that is outside of your normal arrangements, please ensure that you have notified the office so we are aware and can let other staff members know in a timely manner.  This applies to leaving early and for the end of the day.

SAFETY

A reminder to all students and parents that entry to the School is via the Pedestrian gate on Chestnut Ave located near Block D. This is for everyone's safety. If you require disabled access there are two entry points into the school via the ramp into the school office and via the gate on the corner of Sturt and Manson Streets.

NOTES SENT HOME

On occasion important notes will be sent home. Please ensure you remember to check your child's bag each day.

CELEBRATIONS

Here at TPS we enjoy celebrating student’s birthdays. You are most welcome to bring in something to celebrate but we ask that individual store bought small bite size cupcakes or individually wrapped sweets are brought in to school as this makes it easier for the students to eat. A large cake makes it difficult to distribute to their classmates.

LOST PROPERTY

There are a number of items in the Lost Property box which do not have names on them. If your child is missing an item, please check this box which is located in the D Block breezeway.

CONTACT INFORMATION OR CIRCUMSTANCE CHANGE

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date. It is important that the School be able to contact you in case of your child being ill, a child not being collected from school or in case of emergency etc. If your family circumstances change, please also provide the school with any updated documentation.

You can notify the school of any changes or updates via written confirmation or complete the template form located in the office foyer.

MOBILE PHONES OR DEVICES

If you require your child to carry a mobile phone/device, you will be required to complete a permission note (please see the school office if you require this note). Student mobile phones/device are to be turned off and handed to the school office during school hours in the morning. Mobile phones/devices will be returned to the students at the end of each day.
