A message from Julie

Thank you to all that were able to attend and support our school Disco on Friday November 3. It was great to see so many happy and smiling students moving and grooving in the Gym. The Disco was well supported by families and students. A special thanks to Dernancourt Delights who generously donated their time and equipment to make the evening a success. Thanks also to the school staff who gave up their Friday evening to support and supervise the event. The SRC Disco Committee (VIPs) also helped out on the night with setting up and serving the chips and drinks. What a fabulous school community we have!

As the weather is improving, it has been great seeing more families walking to school together. The crossing monitors have noticed that there are more students and families using the crossing as a safe way to get to school and this is appreciated.

With only 5 weeks left of the school year, there is much planning and preparation underway for our end of year events such as Year 6 Graduation and whole school concert. Please keep an eye out on See Saw and Audiri over the coming weeks for further information.

Class Placement for 2024

As a site, when determining student class placements, we will be dedicating time for our staff to come together and discuss each individual student and their placement for 2024. These discussions are informed by student academic ability, social and emotional needs, peer, friend and staff connections and other additional support as required. All decisions are made with the best interest of the student at the centre of discussions. This process takes many weeks, and our plan is to share 2024 class placements in the last week of term.

This year the process will be a little different than it has been in the past. Teachers will not be directly asking students to identify friends that they wish to be with in class in 2024. At Dernancourt, teachers know students well. They know who their students like to play with and who they learn well with. Teachers will have conversations with classes about this process.

An important part of this process is parent involvement and giving families the opportunity to provide any information that may assist with student class placements. If there is any information that you have shared in past years that you believe still requires consideration, please can I ask that you send it through in an email to the address below. As a new leadership team this year, we are trying to make sure that we have all the information we need for this process to be as smooth as possible. Please note that due to the staffing process requests for specific class teachers will not be able to be taken in to consideration.

If you wish to provide input in to your child’s class placement in 2024, I ask that you please email any information to Julie at dl.0982.leaders@schools.sa.edu.au before Friday November 17th.

Planning for 2024

Planning for the structure and number of classes is well under way and I hope to be able to share the class structures with you in the next newsletter. If you know that you will not be returning in 2024 and you have not yet let us know, please can I ask that you do so as soon as possible. We are currently finalising numbers and enrolments to make sure that we have the right number of places available for all.

At Dernancourt School, we currently host two District Special Options classes. A Junior Primary class in J7 and a Primary Special Options class in P5. I am excited to let you know that in 2024 we will have an additional district Junior Primary Special Options class join our school. This will class will be placed in the Junior Primary Building. We are currently working through room availability and class options and we are anticipating that some minor renovations will need to occur.

We raised $333 for the RSPCA from our Casual day last term. Thank you for your gold coin donations.

Children in the Early Years have been enjoying drawing and colouring at lunchtimes. Children in the Primary have enjoyed participating in our Comic Club and Chess club at lunchtimes. It’s great to see so many children involved in our student led lunchtime activities.

Our school disco was held on Friday of Week 3 and was a great success. Thank you to our disco committee and all those who helped.

Garden Club News

Today’s Garden Club helpers were Mannat J3, Delilah J4, Jeremy P5, Lincoln P3 and Sam P10. We cleared out the garden beds and planted some capsicum, carrots and lettuce. We also planted some new marigolds in the pots near the entrance to the Primary building. It was great to see the collaboration from our group today with everyone helping out.

Well done boys - a fantastic outcome for you both and for our school.

NECAP

NECAP

This year our school will be collecting non perishable foods and gifts for the NECAP (North Eastern Community Assistance Program). A basket will be placed in the corridor opposite the front office, another basket will be in the foyer area opposite J3 in the Early Years building and the third basket will be at OSHC.

Please support the school and NECAP by donating goods. Any non perishable food will be appreciated but especially Christmas goods such as Christmas cakes, mince pies, tinned hams, tinned fruit, long life custard, dried fruit or any other items that would help to create Christmas hampers.

These hampers are distributed to the less fortunate families in the North Eastern areas.
