Ascension of the Lord Sunday 21 May 2023

The Gospel (Matthew 28: 16 - 20)

Jesus went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorised and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age”.

... On the way to Mass

What does it mean to “Go and make disciples of all nations”?

Does it mean we have to travel far away?

What are some ways we can answer Jesus’ call?

On the way home from Mass ...

I wonder how the disciples felt about Jesus’ words to “Go and make disciples of all nations”.

The Prayer

When the horizon is far, and the call is clear, Jesus says: I will not leave you alone.

When the place is here, and the time is now, Jesus says: I will not leave you alone.

The Question of the Week

Staff/Parents

With whom have you shared the good news of Jesus in the past month?

Primary Students

What good news about Jesus could you share with someone?

The Action

The Ascension of Jesus is recorded three times in the New Testament. In each account, Jesus tells the disciples to go and be witnesses of the gospel they have received. It would seem this mission is non negotiable.

How we do that is up to us. If we want to knock on doors and preach in the park, suit yourself. If you feel drawn to the foreign missions, the prayer of the church will support you. Maybe the least missionised corner of the world is right where you are. Allow someone’s testimony of faith to speak into your life: read a biography of a holy person. Allow your testimony to speak to someone else.

Practise the virtues of faith, hope, and charity until they become the “new normal” for you.

Year 6 Canberra Excursion: 20-21 July 2023

Students from our school will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Feedback on our School

In the coming weeks we will be inviting our students and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

From Monday, 22 May to Friday, 9 June, we invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. You are able to access the parent survey (20 different languages available) on your computer or mobile device.

There will be more details to come on how to access this survey.
