Churchlands Primary School Newsletter

Volume 52 - 18/08/2023

Principal's Message

This newsletter's celebration goes to ………

The spectacular day we had at the Athletics Carnival on Wednesday! The children had the best time ever cheering on their factions and teammates. We were so impressed to see the amazing sportsmanship the children showed on the day.  We love their 'have a go' attitude! Massive thank you to Mr Marshall for organising this, to staff for all their support, to the year 6 parents who kept the kids, and staff, loaded with sweet treats, and to the families who braved the chilly weather to cheer on their children. What a great community day!

And to…

The students who participated in the RoboCup Junior WA challenge at All Saints College on Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th August. RoboCup Junior WA is a not-for-profit organisation run largely by volunteers in their spare time and work in partnership with Scitech. Congratulations to all the students who participated, and special congratulations to the boys who were the State Champions for their division. A massive thank you to Mr. J who supported the students on the weekend.

On Monday, we are having The Penguin Empire, a film and TV production team, come to school to film an advertisement. They will be using room 10 as the ‘stage’. We are so excited to be chosen for the filming, and the children are super excited as well. Room 10 and some other classes will be given the opportunity to see the filming and production in action.  As this is a big production with lots of trucks, cars and equipment, the overflow carpark will have less than usual parking spots in the morning.

If you are keen to nominate for the School Board parent position, we have extended the process to next Friday, August 25.

There will be repairs happening on Tuesday to the overflow parent carpark. Please be careful when entering this area.

We have Book Week coming up next week ….what character are you going to be on Monday?

PE News and Upcoming Events

CPS Athletics Carnival 2023

It was a great three days of competition, and the ‘Churchlands Way’ was shown by all the Churchlands community throughout.  We had some wonderful weather for two of our days, but we were hampered by a big downpour prior to our middle-distance races on Tuesday.  With the slight change in schedule (pushing the races later in the day), it didn’t stop the students from participating and doing their best.

EALD News

We are so excited to announce that the library has some new books for the BILINGUAL BOOK COLLECTION! These picture books are written in English as well as another language. There are stories in German, Korean, Farsi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu, Somali, Punjabi, Gujarati and Dari. The bilingual books will be available soon for all students to read and enjoy with their families. Keep an eye on the new book display to see when they are ready for borrowing. Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for your help in ordering and organising these books.

Reading and speaking in both English and your home language is valued. Parents, it is important for your child to keep building on vocabulary and comprehension skills in your home language, so keep asking questions and discussing stories and pictures with your children. Start looking carefully at the characters in the books you are reading. You might find an idea for the Book Week dress up day on Monday, August 21st!

Bullying No Way!

Today is National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

The theme for the 2023 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is Growing connections.

Growing connections helps everyone feel accepted, respected, included, and supported.

Being connected and having people to talk to, or to ask for help, can help to prevent bullying.

This week , students at CPS participated in activities in their classroom around this theme.
