From the Principal's Desk...

CONGRATULATIONS, MRS ARCHIBALD! | Mrs Emma Archibald was the successful candidate recently at interview, for the substantive position of Assistant Principal!

Mrs Archibald joined the Balmain family at the start of 2023, as a relieving Assistant Principal (AP), supervising K-2. Mrs Archibald brings with her, vast knowledge and abilities, complementing our executive team and supporting K-2 and, indeed students and staff across the school.

Since then, she was successful in gaining a 3 x day/week substantive AP role for 2024 and beyond. The full-time substantive position became available earlier this term. Again, Mrs Archibald applied for this position and was successful at interview.

The 10-day appeal period is officially over, so we are absolutely delighted to announce that she will be with us again in a full-time substantive capacity!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US GROW | Your child should have brought home a special envelope that is just for you! If you didn't receive one, please pick up a spare from the Office. To each and every one of you, we are grateful for your ongoing support of your child, our students and our school! 'It takes a village to raise a child', as they say and, wow, what a village we have! From volunteering, to donating coins for fundraisers and in kind, being on the P&C, running the uniform stall, assisting in the classroom and beyond, helping out with Miss Pauline's Garden, organising and executing a variety of events for our students and families, rolling up sleeves to help out for a 'Working Bee', clearing and washing lost property...the list is endless! BPS THANKS YOU and hope your everlasting daisies remind you of our Balmain family! (instructions can be found on the inside cover...)

From Your P&C...

Dear School Community

As the school year draws to a close, we wanted to say a big Thank You for all of your support and helping us realise the plans and priorities we set at the beginning of the year.

At our last P&C meeting, we shared some of our achievements and reflected on the progress we have made this year towards:

- creating a greener, more sustainable school

- building stronger relationships with our community partners

- finding new ways of working to build capacity in our P&C

...all while continuing to deliver some great community events.

More information can be found in the attached document below.

Special 2023 Goodbyes

Sadly, in 2023, we will be losing several families who have been important members of the Balmain community. Thank you, Josie Simpson and Karen Reiner, for your support over the years. We wish you all the best for the future.

Josie Simpson (mum of Ed and leftmost in attached photo), is leaving, as Ed's going to another school. Josie was an inaugural uniform shop founder, as well as a key member of the Art Show since its inception. Over the years, Josie's involvement in the Art Show has been invaluable. She has brought in numerous external artists' artworks for auction, which has raised thousands of dollars in fundraising for the P&C and the school.

Josie’s involvement in the formation of the uniform shop, alongside Lyndal Rutgers, has also raised over $100K since inception and has been a vital source of funds for the school, funding, amongst other things, technology, sports and school resources.Karen Reiner (mum of Felix and to the left of 2nd photo) and her family are leaving Balmain for a sea change. Karen has been part of the school community for the past two years, serving on the P&C since arriving at the school. Always one to roll up her sleeves, Karen has been involved in lots of P&C events and activities, from last year’s Art Show and Family Fete Day, to the Trivia Night and Halloween Discos. Karen has also played a key role in driving P&C initiatives, such as the Salvos Christmas Giving, managing Flexischools and setting up last year’s P&C survey.

Karen, we appreciate you and will miss the passion, commitment and care you have shown towards enhancing our school and strengthening our community.

We wish you all a safe, festive, and relaxing holiday break! We look forward to partnering with you again in 2024.

Your 2023 P&C Executive Committee

2023 P&C Summary

Following the Department of Education's upgrade to the school’s ventilation, our classrooms were no longer in need of portable air purifiers, which were purchased by the P&C during the pandemic. After offering our surplus air purifiers back to the Balmain Community, the school’s last 13 air purifiers were donated to the Salvation Army Aged Care Home on Thames Street, Balmain. The air purifiers were gratefully received by Trudi Clinton, Centre Manager and Ante Bakmaz, Lifestyle Coordinator (pictured), who said they will be put to good use throughout their Centre and other Salvation Army nursing homes.

COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARD

'WINTER IS COMING!' | Did you know that BPS competes at the Interschools Snowsports Championships?

We would love to grow the BPS team in 2024 (across the whole school from Kindy to Year 6)!

Yes, it’s summer… but we also focus on the North Pole this time of year, so it’s also time to start planning for the 2024 Interschools Snowsports Championships, (including skiing and snowboarding).

For more info, please check out the website here: https://www.interschools.com.au/home-nsw-act-qld-sa/

The Sydney Regional competition is scheduled to be held in Perisher, 14-19 July 2024 (2nd week of the mid-year school holidays).

If you’re interested in learning more, please send a message to the BPS Team Manager, Joshua Knuckey (0400 897 676), who will add you to the BPS Interschool, Snowsports WhatsApp group.

The Interschools are about participation as much as they are about performance, so everyone is welcome (and the fun is guaranteed!).

Accommodation is the greatest challenge, as the big schools book a lot of the accommodation now (so if you and your family have any interest, it’s worthwhile trying to find accommodation now (in or around Perisher, Jindabyne and Thredbo) for 14-19 July 2024.

Please feel free to call Josh, who is happy to help answer your queries.
