Important Diary Dates

From the Principal

Well have made it to the end of term!

We have had an exceptionally busy term and are all looking forward to the holidays – I am sure your children will be feeling the same!

Farewell Kylie Kalisch

This term we farewell Kylie Kalisch, a long-standing teacher at Nuriootpa Primary School. In my time at NPS I have come to see Kylie as a reliable, consistent, dedicated and passionate teacher, always working hard to do the right thing by the children in her class and celebrating their successes with them having never lost the joy of teaching.

I’d like to thank Kylie for everything she has done for the students at Nuriootpa Primary School – your contribution has been huge!

Other Staffing news

We also farewell Don Soloma from the 5 / 6 team-teaching with Mrs Nietschke role. Teagan Hood will be returning to work in that class on Mondays and Fridays. Mr Soloma will still be around and I’m sure we will see him on the odd day as a TRT.

We maintain all SSO staff, including Sue Merrett in Finance, moving into Term 4.

Message to staff

Since I am home unwell and missing out on Sports Day 😒 I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their dedication, enthusiasm, flexibility and kindness this term. Everyone makes coming to work at NPS a joy.

Message to Families

I'd also like to thank all of our families for their support with camps, excursions, SAPSASA, Governing Council and so on!! It's great that we have so many people willing to support and contribute. We all really appreciate it.

Message to Students (parents, please show your child!!)

You guys have worked really hard this term. Have a well-earned break. Read at least two books.

Best,

Vicky.

From the Deputy Principal

It was very disappointing to see that over a weekend, a couple of weeks ago week, someone has destroyed our values poles, which we recently had installed. This type of vandalism is upsetting for students and very frustrating for us as a school. We pride ourselves in providing an environment that is warm and welcoming and a place that kids feel proud of. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same values and expectations that we try to live to, and feel that it is okay to destroy school property.

The SEG grounds crew will come up with a plan for this area, and hopefully their show of resilience will positively impact those in our community who display these sort of negative behaviours. On a more positive note, our gardens are starting to thrive with a little bit of sunshine. Classes are doing a great job of maintaining these areas and ensuring they are an element of pride in our school. Planting and maintaining the gardens provide a good connection to nature and support the development of an environmental awareness for children, while providing a calm activity that builds a sense of teamwork and responsibility.

We will be holding a working bee on Friday 24th October – Week 2, to develop the area where the values poles were installed. It would be great to have some support to help establish this area.

Have a great holiday.

From the Wellbeing Leader

Supporting Wellbeing at Nuriootpa Primary School

This year is flying by and we are coming to the end of another busy term. We know that students learn best when they feel happy, safe and connected. Supporting wellbeing is an important part of everything we do—because when children feel cared for, their confidence and learning can flourish.

Our Approach

·       Positive Relationships: We have a value’s focus, with an emphasis on kindness and respect, encouraging students to build strong friendships and support each other.

·       Safe Spaces: Our staff create calm, welcoming classrooms and playground areas where every child feels included. The interoception room in the front office is a good place for students to take a bit of a break from the busy school day and reset before they take on the next challenge. We have recently upgraded the courtyard area to include comfortable seating and a range of activities to keep our students occupied during break times. Next term will see the opening of a Year 6 break out space and the start of the junior primary playground redevelopment.

·       Skills for Life: Through social–emotional learning, we help students develop resilience, problem-solving skills and strategies to manage big emotions.

Working Together with Families Family involvement is key to wellbeing. We welcome conversations with parents and carers, whether it’s a quick chat at drop-off, a phone call or a scheduled meeting. Together we can celebrate successes and find solutions if challenges arise. If you are not sure where to start have a chat to your child’s teacher or pop into the office and Karen will find the right person to best support you and your family.

By working in together, we can nurture a school community where every child feels valued, supported and ready to thrive—academically, socially and emotionally.

Looking forward to Term 4, have a great break!

Volunteer at NPS

Parent Volunteers

If you are able, Nuriootpa Primary welcomes any parents and carers who would like  to volunteer.  Parent and Carer Volunteers are a valued support base for our school, assisting staff to provide  a range of high quality opportunities to promote the learning, wellbeing and growth of students.

Some ways you can be involved may include:

·       Listen to Students read

·       Assistance on excursions and Camps

·       Helping out at School Events (eg Christmas Concert, Sports day and SAPSASA)

If you are interested in supporting the school in either of these,  please contact the Front Office and speak to Karen Brook on 8562 1040 to book in for an information night to be held early next term.

Please note: All volunteers need  a  WWCC (Working with Children Check) and RHAN (Responding to Harm and Neglect).  The School will support interested people in gaining these.
