Regional Cross Country 2025

By Sienna Vivash 5C

Last Friday, 13th of June, 12 students from MPS gathered nervously at 9am at the bus stop to go to Benalla for the Hume Regional Cross Country Championships.

The weather was freezing, and the sky was thick with fog. We thought the running conditions were going to be terrible but when we arrived in Benalla, the conditions were perfect, crisp air with blue skies and sunshine.

When we arrived, we collected our timing chips and pinned them onto our MPS running singlets.

The first race of the day was the boys 9/10 age group 2km race. Representing MPS was Luca and Miles with both boys achieving fantastic results. Luca running with his arm in a cast managed to come 12th earning himself a place in State, and Miles only in Grade 3, came 15th narrowly missing out on the next round.

The following race, also 2km was the girls 9/10 age group. Mia and Phoebe gave their best. I was also in the same race and as soon as it started, I had the worst stitch and halfway through, my shoulder started aching. I was sitting around 4th place most of the way until the final sprint where I managed to dig deep and just grab first position by just 0.2 seconds. I was cooked at the end, that’s for sure!

Moving up to the 3km race distance, Xavier and Scout competed in the 11year old age group. Xavier got a great result in 15th place and Scout ran a super strong race placing 7th making it through to the next round at State.

In the final 2 races for the Primary School section of the day –the 12/13 age group, we had Rider, Parker, Roy and Charlie compete in the boy's race. All the boys gave their absolute best, Rider came 24th and Charlie managed to finish 7th also securing a place at the State Championships. Matilda also ran well in the girl's race coming 27th.

Overall, I think everyone did a great job representing MPS. It is a big achievement to make it to Region. We had heaps of fun along with many nerves, but we all survived the day.

Thanks to Mrs Mulvihill and Maggie for taking us and for letting us stop at McDonalds on the way home. 😁😀
