Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

Farewell to the Rimmer Family

We wish Maeve, Sadie, Llewyn, Gemma and Brad all the very best for their move. The Rimmer family have been a valued part of the Jamberoo community, always willing to lend a hand at school events. You will all be greatly missed, and we hope Maeve, Sadie and Llewyn’s new school brings them every success and happiness.

Vice-Captain Position

With Maeve leaving the school, the role of Vice-Captain has been offered to Elsie Savell, who has proudly accepted. Congratulations to Elsie. We know she will be an outstanding school leader.

Parent-Teacher Interviews and Three-Way Conferences

Thank you to all the parents who attended a parent–teacher interview or three-way conference. We value the time to connect and share your child's learning. If you missed your session, please contact the school next term and book a suitable time to meet with your child's classroom teacher.

Students Return for Term 2

Students return for Term 2 on Wednesday, 22 April. Monday-Tuesday are Staff Development Days (pupil free days). On the Monday, all NSW public school staff will be engaging in a full day of professional learning to strengthen inclusive education, with a focus on disability and neurodiversity.

Thank You!

It has been an absolute privilege to lead Jamberoo Public School over the past two years and one term. Jamberoo is a very special place, and I will take many fond memories with me. I wish the whole school community all the very best for the future.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break.

Kind regards,

Katie Louttit

Week In View

Cross Country

We were fortunate to enjoy amazing weather for our annual Cross Country Carnival, creating the perfect conditions for a fantastic day of running and school spirit.

It was wonderful to see such great participation from our students, with everyone showing enthusiasm, determination and encouragement for one another. Seeing students encourage and support each other was truly heartwarming, and we are incredibly proud of all our runners and the effort they put in.

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support and cheer on the students—it truly added to the positive atmosphere of the day.

We would also like to acknowledge our dedicated staff who helped set up, organize and support students throughout the event. Your efforts ensured the day ran smoothly and was enjoyable for all.

Well, done to everyone involved in making the day such a success!

Halogen - Young Leaders Day

Our School Captains and Vice Captains set off bright and early for an exciting day at the Halogen Young Leaders Day in Darling Harbour. After catching the train to Town Hall, the group made their way to the venue, ready for a full day of learning and inspiration.

On arrival, students purchased their Halogen pins, found their seats and settled in for the opening session, where they heard from young Australian actress Catherine Laga’aia, who shared her leadership journey and her experience stepping into the role of Moana.

During the first break, students enjoyed something to eat and made the most of the playground equipment along Darling Harbour. Within seconds, they had all climbed to the very top, which was a little nerve-wracking to watch!

The day continued with a series of inspiring speakers. Jess Yates, a TV host, sports journalist and now children’s author, spoke about her experiences working across major sporting codes and her journey into writing. She shared insights into working in a male-dominated field and the importance of persistence, starting from the ground up. Students were fortunate to meet her and purchase two signed copies of her book Let’s Go Racing for our school library.

Nick Hudson, founder of the Push-Up Challenge, shared his powerful story of resilience, including his personal health challenges and the impact of his work supporting mental health. His message about perseverance in both business and life strongly resonated with our students.

After a second break, complete with ice creams and a few lollies to refuel (very important for energy levels!), students returned for the final session. They also heard from Jacqui Bell, an extreme adventurer and world record holder, who spoke about pushing limits, setting goals and striving for personal best.

Following a big day of learning, the group made their way back to Central Station to catch the train home. Tired ... but very happy.

It was a long but rewarding day! Well done, leaders!

Farewell to the Rimmer Family

We will miss you!

Easter Hat Parade

Our Easter Hat Parade was once again a highlight of the term, with students showcasing an incredible range of creativity, imagination and effort. There were some truly standout creations this year, including a flowing chocolate fondue made from brown slime, a cleverly designed Kinder Surprise egg hat, and even a football-themed egg! One student transformed into Marshmello the DJ, complete with an accompanying rap that entertained the crowd and brought plenty of smiles. Alongside these unique designs, there were many beautifully crafted hats featuring flowers, bunnies and colourful Easter eggs, creating a vibrant and festive parade.

Adding to the fun of the parade, our future Jamberoo students also took part with a special lap around the parade, much to the delight of the crowd. It was lovely to see our school community involved with lots of grandparents and families in attendance.

A big thank you to our families for their support and creativity, and to our students for the pride and enthusiasm they brought to the event. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the joy of Easter together as a school community.

Class Spotlight

Wombarra

Yesterday, Kindergarten students took part in their very first cross country event, and what a fantastic effort they showed! Despite the warm weather, every student gave their best and ran with determination. Most importantly, they had a wonderful time cheering each other on and celebrating their achievements at the finish line. We are very proud of their resilience and positive attitude. In mathematics, we have been exploring ways to break apart numbers. The students have been learning how the number 5 can be split into smaller parts, such as 3 + 2 and 4 + 1. Through hands-on activities and games, they are developing a strong understanding of how numbers can be composed and decomposed, which is an important early number skill.During music lessons, students have been learning about rhythm and beat. They were excited to learn a lively Jamaican folk song called “Shake the Papaya Tree.” The class enjoyed practising the actions and keeping in time with the music, and they confidently performed the song and movements in front of their classmates. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm for performing. It has been a busy and exciting term in Kindergarten, and I hope you all have a nice Easter holiday break.

Bimbala

It’s been another productive and engaging week in Bimbala! Students have just completed their persuasive writing project on the topic, “My Hero.” I was truly impressed by the thoughtful arguments and creative examples shared. It has been wonderful to see their writing skills develop and their confidence in expressing ideas grow. In Mathematics, we have continued to explore number and place value. There has been a strong emphasis on ordering numbers, using MAB blocks to model and understand the place value of numbers up to three digits, and practicing counting in both ascending and descending order. The hands-on activities have helped make learning both fun and meaningful. Thank you for the positive conversations during our three-way interviews. It has been great to meet with you, discuss your child's progress this term, and set goals for the term ahead. Finally, as we welcome back Mrs Turner next week, I would like to thank Bimbala for being a joy to teach! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the class and am grateful for the opportunity to share in their learning this term. Well, done, Bimbala!

Mr Reed

Walabi

Thank you to Walabi students who have remained learning-focused even when there have been changes in routine and when I was away sick! Congratulations to all of the class on your sportsmanship at the Cross Country Carnival this week! In maths we have been learning about repeating and growing patterns, which students have loved — see the photos below. Students have also really strengthened their ability to follow our class routines for spelling activities and in reading groups. Well, done. We are finishing the term strong!  In health, Walabi students have discussed the 'golden rules of friendship' including this week learning that "not all friendships are good for us." They are working on recognizing behaviours that are not those of a friend. Students who attended the school disco last week had a great time — see the photos below. All the best to Walabi families for the holiday break ahead!

Birrahlee

Birrahlee students are enjoying a relaxing last day as Term 1 comes to a close. After a busy and productive few weeks, today brought a special touch of Easter cheer! Students spent the morning colouring and decorating baskets, hoping to catch the attention of the Easter Bunny for a visit.

After lunch, the celebrations continued with the screening of the movie adaptation of their class text, “Fantastic Mr Fox.” Watching the story come to life was a fitting end to a term filled with learning and creativity.

We wish all students, families, a very happy Easter and restful holidays!

Cooinda

We had an exciting week in Cooinda as we celebrated our annual Easter Hat Parade, alongside developing our skipping skills in PE.

Easter Hat Parade

Students created and brought in their wonderful Easter hats to wear in our parade. It was fantastic to see such creativity, with designs featuring bunnies, chicks, eggs, flowers and bright colours. Thank you for your support in helping your children put together these imaginative creations. Everyone looked amazing!

PE Focus: Skipping Skills

In PE, we focused on developing skipping skills, working on coordination, rhythm and fitness. Students practised a range of fun skipping tricks, including:

  • Basic bounce (jumping with two feet)
  • Alternate foot step
  • Criss-cross arms
  • Partner skipping challenges
  • Timed challenges
It has been great to see students building confidence and improving their skills over time.

Nanga Mai

This fortnight has been incredibly busy, and it has been wonderful to see students so engaged across all areas of learning. One of our highlights has been our gymnastics session, where students tackled an exciting ninja course. Charlo came out on top as our class ninja warrior. In writing, we have begun exploring environmental issues by focusing on threatened places in Australia. Students are working towards creating a piece that informs, persuades, and entertains. Our music lessons have also been a standout, with students diving into the blues. They have been creating their own ostinatos and experimenting with the 12-bar blues, showing creativity and a strong sense of rhythm. The absolute highlight of the fortnight was our Easter Hat Parade. I was so proud to see every Year 6 student create a hat and confidently participate in the parade—it was a fantastic display of school spirit. Thank you to all the parents who took the time to meet with me over the past two weeks for parent-teacher interviews. I truly value these opportunities to connect and discuss your child’s learning. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing and happy holiday break!
