Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

May 2026, Term 2 Week 6

A Message from the Principal

It has been another wonderful week of learning and community spirit at Plattsburg Public School.

Our students have been very excited to take part in our competition to design a new school mascot. We have already seen some very thoughtful and creative designs, with students carefully considering how their chosen native Australian animal connects to our school values of Respect, Independence, Empathy and Connecting. It has been fantastic to see students thinking deeply about what our school stands for and how this can be represented in a mascot for Plattsburg Public School.

We would also like to remind families that students are expected to wear full school uniform each day. Wearing our school uniform helps build a strong sense of belonging and pride in our school. The uniform shop is always available for families needing to purchase uniform items, and our school clothing pool is also available, with all items priced at $2.

A reminder that trading items at school is not permitted. This includes items such as Pokémon cards, squishies and other collectables. Toys are also not permitted at school, as they can become lost, damaged or cause distractions during learning and play time. We appreciate families supporting us by keeping these items at home.

Our recent bake sale was also a great success. A sincere thank you to the parents, carers and staff who generously donated baked goods and supported the event. Our Year 6 students did a fantastic job running the stall, demonstrating responsibility, respect and kindness as they served students and helped organise the day. We are very proud of the leadership they showed.

A reminder that our K-2 Oakvale excursion is planned for next Friday. We are hoping the weather is a little kinder to us next week so our students can enjoy a wonderful day of hands-on learning and fun.

Across the school, there has been some excellent teaching and learning taking place. It has been wonderful to visit classrooms and see students demonstrating their growing confidence in mathematics and their phonic knowledge. Our students continue to impress us with their focus, persistence and enthusiasm for learning.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school community.

Information for Parents and Carers: NCCD

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have shared information flyers with families about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students who receive adjustments or support at school due to disability. This process helps schools, education systems and governments better understand the needs of students and how to support them.

The information collected does not identify individual students. It is used to help ensure schools are providing appropriate adjustments so all students can access and participate in learning on the same basis as their peers.

We encourage families to read the flyer to learn more about the NCCD and how it supports inclusive education. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Class Awards

NRLW at Plattsburg

Plattsburg Public School was fortunate to welcome Shanice Parker from the Newcastle Knights NRLW team as part of the Knights’ “INSPIRE” program.

With the NRLW season fast approaching, the Knights have been visiting local schools to deliver important messages around respect, inspiration, and being positive community members both on and off the field.

During the engaging 40-minute presentation, our students learned about:

• Making positive choices

• Showing respect to others

• Contributing meaningfully to the community

Our students thoroughly enjoyed hearing Shanice’s story, learning about resilience and teamwork, and asking questions about life as an NRLW player. We thank Shanice and the Newcastle Knights for taking the time to inspire our students and promote such positive values within our school community.

Stage 3 Art Club

Ms Ruby has been running the Stage 3 Art Club at lunchtime on Thursdays and Fridays, providing students with a wonderful opportunity to explore and develop their artistic talents.

Our talented young artists have been revisiting watercolour painting techniques while also working independently on creative projects they have been developing over the past few weeks. It has been fantastic to see students experimenting with different styles, showing creativity, persistence, and enthusiasm in their artwork.

We are very proud of the amazing effort and imagination our students continue to demonstrate in Art Club each week.

In The Classroom

3/4W National Reconciliation Week

3/4W created this collaborative artwork as part of our learning for National Reconciliation Week and this year’s theme, ‘All In’.

Throughout the week, students explored the importance of kindness, respect, inclusion and listening to others. Each student designed their own handprint to represent how we can all work together to create a welcoming and respectful community where everyone feels valued and connected. We are very proud of the creativity and thoughtful messages shown in this beautiful piece.

K–2 Classes National Simultaneous Storytime! 📚🦘

K-2 joined children all across Australia to listen to authors Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd read aloud Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, a fun and inspiring story about courage, teamwork and believing in yourself as Luna Roo leads her team through an exciting big game. We also loved watching illustrator Jake A. Minton show us how to draw Luna Roo!

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event that promotes the importance of reading and literacy, while encouraging children to enjoy books and storytelling together at the same time across the country.

We had a wonderful time and absolutely loved sharing this special story together!

KC & K/1H

KC and K/1H had a great time ending the day with some fun social play! Lots of smiles, laughter, and teamwork all around. A wonderful way to finish the day!
