Principal's Message

Dear Families,

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve almost made it to the end of another term.  Thank you for all your support and kindness this term. It really means a lot to our staff.

It’s been a massive term and we’ve achieved so much. Touching base with every parent around student progress, Education Week was a massive success, the flag poles are up, the outdoor classrooms are complete, the 150th bricks are laid, the mural in the library is incredible, the decks have been painted and the working bee ticked off a lot of little jobs around the school.  We couldn’t have done all of this without your support! Thank you!

Outdoor Classrooms

Our outdoor classrooms are finally complete! Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this project. It’s been a long time coming but the areas look awesome, and we can’t wait for our students to start using them. Maybe when the weather warms up!

Mansfield Probus

A massive thank you to Mansfield Women’s Probus for they donation of $1520.81. This money will go towards buying new tents and sleeping mats for our outdoor education program School 2 Summit. Donations like this allow us to continue to offer a quality program with very little cost to families. It ensures that every student has the same opportunity to experience everything that schooling has to offer. We understand the pressure families are under and know that we can play an important role in supporting our school community. Thanks again Probus!

The Currency of Kindness Project

The Currency of Kindness Project has been created by the finance subcommittee of School Council, it is a way that individuals, families and organisations can donate money, time or equipment to the school.  We have an amazingly generous community in Mansfield, and we know that so many people want to help and support our school but often they don’t know how. This project allows us to talk to people and organisations about what we need as a school, the projects we’re working on and how they can support us.  It also allows us to formally thank the people and organisations for their generosity.

We also know that kindness goes both ways and so the Currency of Kindness Project is also a way that our students can raise money or donate their time to support others.

So far this year we’d like to thank:

Anonymous - $700 (for individual students to attend camp)

IGA $1700 (for individual students to attend camp)

Probus $1,520 (for S2S equipment)

The Gibney family- mural in the library

The Forrest family- rocks for the outdoor classroom project

The Parsons family- wood for a wood raffle

Anonymous - $1000 (for equipment in the sensory room)

The Withers family- 2 sensory pillows for the sensory room

Emily- working in the library for 2 hours a week to make sure the library is neat and tidy.

Jane- volunteering in the Yr1 classes

Wendy- volunteering in Yr 2 classes

Agnes- volunteering in the art room

Anonymous- New Webex TV for online meetings and conference

School Council

I am incredibly grateful for all the members of our 2024 School Council.  Our subcommittees are very active this year and we’ve already seen some great improvements.

Your School Council president is James Cleeland, Vice president is Janie Hoogesteger, the treasurer is Rachel Parsons, and the secretary is Marcus Hann.

School Review

This year we’ll have our school review. This happens every 4 years and is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our achievements. It is also a key element of the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes. The review will inform the direction of the school for the next 4 years through the School Strategic Plan. Our review is in 4th term and between now and then I will be working with staff and School Council to evaluate the school’s performance.

Year 6’s Acknowledged in Parliament

I’m always a super proud principal but today I’m extra proud. In parliament this week, Cindy McLeish formally recognised our school and all the Yr 6 students who participated in the World’s Greatest Shave. She even read out the individual names of each student who shaved their head. Well done to all our students and Mrs Hewitt for all her hard work. We know you are amazing kids, and now parliament knows too. You can view the footage on Cindy’s Facebook page.

If I don’t see you at assembly next week, please have a happy and relaxing time enjoying the school holidays. Stay safe and we’ll see you all next term, commencing Tuesday 16th July 2024.

Thanks,

Nicole

Mansfield Primary School – Prep to Grade 2 Cross Country

On Friday 14th of June, Mansfield Primary School held their Prep to Grade 2 Cross Country. They started the day by leaving school and heading down to the main oval. Lots of parents were there to watch and support their children. The day started with the girls, followed by the prep boys. The preps ran 1km in total. They began on the main oval and then ran around the block around the school before finishing at the oval again. The grade 1 and 2’s then ran their 2km laps, including an additional lap around the main oval before finishing.

All students received a certificate with the top 15 of each category in each year level receiving a special certificate.

It was fantastic to see so many happy faces as they sprinted their little legs the fastest they could. Even though the students were exhausted, they all seemed to have a really fun time. The grade 6 students all marshalled at different points around the course and the music team were dressed up to entertain kids along the way as well.

It was a very cold day but it was a great effort by all students. Well done to all the Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students on a wonderful Cross Country!

Things at MPS that are going well

  • Students are being kind and friendly to each other
  • We have lots of playgrounds to choose from
  • Specialists – we love them
  • The Ninja Warrior Course – lots of kids love it – but the young students want more time on it
  • The water tap at basketball court is awesome
  • Principal Awards

Some problems we have noticed at MPS

  • Students are playing and screaming in the toilets
  • There is too much rubbish
  • Students are spitting water at the bubble taps or putting rubbish and sticks in them
  • On the Ninja course people push in line and don’t wait their turn
  • Students are wasting soap in the toilets – there is none left

Our suggestions to improve MPS

  • Leave all wrappers inside classroom bins
  • At the drink taps – just have a drink then walk away
  • Be patient on the Ninja Course
  • Use just a little soap when you wash your hands in the toilets – and try not to splash water everywhere.

We are excited to have our first fundraiser coming up – and some ideas for others

  • We will be running a Pyjama Day on the last day of this term
  • Icy Pole Fridays - Term 4
  • Milkshake or Milo Movie Monday
  • Sock Drive

STEM - Cereal Boxes

If anyone has empty cereal boxes (Thin cardboard), please donate them to the STEM room.

Thank you.

Library Chairs

Dear MPS Community,

We have some lovely sturdy chairs that we can use in our library, but they need some love. We would prefer to re-use and upcycle them, rather than dump them!

They have some splitting on the vinyl and could really benefit from a reupholster to make them comfortable and gorgeous for our students to use.

If you know of anyone who has the skill and desire to reupholster these potential beauties (and would possibly donate this skill), could you please ask them to make contact with our lovely office staff.

Thank you
