During 2024 the school spent a great deal of time refining our behaviour processes. Our rules were updated from he commencement of 2024 to 'Ready, Respectful and Safe', with signage updated around the school to reflect these new rules/expectations. In addition to this the school followed the NSW Department of Education's 'Behaviour Code of Students'. Both of these are located on this email and can be downloaded to reviewed at your leisure.
However, the school will this year commence a new aspect of this approach with the introduction of a 'Loss of Privileges' list. This list will be formed for student/s that are not meeting the expectations of the 'Behaviour Code for Students' or 'following the expectations established through the School's new rules/expectations.
These student/s we are unable to guarantee that their behaviour will meet the needed expectations for participation in whatever the event the school is preparing. Therefore the student/s will not be able to participate in any events offered by the school during the period specified in the documentation.
We look forward to providing opportunities for student/s to participate in a wide range of events both at school and outside of the school. Staff spend a great deal of time preparing for this. However, behaviour expectations must be guaranteed in these events to ensure the safety of all attending the excursion.
Privileges in this instance includes school activities such as:
- excursions
- movie days
- pool days
- special events - eg. Pirate Day, Water Fun Day
- representative events - Sport Carnivals, Gala Days, dance festivals, Debating etc.
Students that have a privilege withdrawn will continue with regular classroom learning programs during these events, which may or may not be in their current classroom location. This will ensure that learning is maximised during the period of time a student is on the 'Loss of Privileges' List.
This new process will allow for events and programs to continue without the need for possible disruptions to occur.
In addition to this process, any student that returns to school from a suspension will be added to this list, as part of their return to school plan. They will remain on this list for two weeks after that return from suspension. During this time, we will monitor their behaviour to ensure that they are meeting the expectations of the 'Behaviour Code for Students' and meeting the expectations of the school's rules. Once these students have been successful for two weeks, they will then be able to access all opportunities provided at the school.
