HODC Report

REPORTING

Teachers are beginning the preparation of Semester one report cards. At Beerwah State School we use a learning statement approach. This means that for each learning area there will be a statement outlining what has been assessed in the semester. They are written using the Australian Curriculum achievement standards. These learning statements are an overview, they are only bespoke if there are specific plans in place for your child.

For children in Years 1-6, all learning areas will be graded on a A-E scale. In Prep there is a similar scale that uses descriptions (applying-becoming aware).

The following provides a brief explanation of what each overall judgement (grade) means:

C – on balance, the student demonstrated the Australian Curriculum elements in the learning statement

B – on balance, the student demonstrated the Australian Curriculum elements in different contexts and/or at higher complexity

A - on balance, the student demonstrated the Australian Curriculum elements in different contexts and at higher complexity

D - on balance, the student demonstrated some of the Australian Curriculum elements in the learning statement.

E – on balance, the student required support to demonstrate few Australian Curriculum elements in the learning statement.

Our school will be using a new Departmental process for sending reminder notices to parents/carers with overdue invoices. Reminder notices will generate periodically once your invoice becomes overdue.

How you will receive the reminder notice:
  • If you have provided us with an email address and you have overdue invoices, you will start to receive reminder notices directly to your email address
  • If you have not provided us with an email address, reminder notices for any overdue invoices will be posted to you.

ACCOUNT QUERIES

If you are unable to pay your invoices before the due date or have a query about an invoice you have received, it is important that you contact us before the invoice is due for payment.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Beerwah State School is excited to offer all parents the ability to order and pay for your child’s school items using your smartphone, tablet or computer. The new Qkr! (pronounced ‘quicker’) by MasterCard application is a secure and easy way to make school payments at your convenience. We encourage all parents to use Qkr! as it reduces the need to send cash to school or attend in person, and receipts are automatically generated that can be easily retrieved on the app or sent to your email. It is easier for families and it also significantly streamlines operations with the school.  QKR! How to Guide
QKR! is our preferred method for payment via the secure QKR! App.
  • You Can also pay via the secure BPoint  payment portal in QParents.
  • You can also pay via the BPoint link on the invoice you receive via email
  • Cashless payments can be made at the Payment Window by EFTPOS on Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning between 8:30am-10:30am

HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

Please refer to the Communication Placemat that is available on our website to determine the appropriate method and avenue of communication for any information you require. If you are unsure, please email the school via admin@beerwahss.eq.edu.au and your query will be passed on to the appropriate staff member.

We welcome parents and other members of our diverse community into our school. Working together with the school community, school staff support the learning and wellbeing of every student, and are entitled to a safe work environment. Parents and other visitors to our school support safety by ensuring their communications and conduct at the school and school activities is respectful. Please read our Parent and Community Code of Conduct for more information.

STUDENT MESSAGES AND EARLY COLLECTION

We realise sometimes Parents need to get a message to student/s to change how they are going home, with whom, or need to collect student/s early. We ask Parents, where possible, to please contact the school at their earliest convenience prior to 1:00pm; to advise so messages can go out in rolls and minimise interruptions to class learning time.

Please call prior to arriving to collect student/s so we can have them in the office ready for your arrival. Our break times are 11:00am-11:30am & 1:00pm-1:40pm. We thank you for your support.

CHANGE OF DETAILS

Up to date information helps us look after each of our students. Contact details can be updated through the BSS Skoolbag, QParents app or SZ app. For a hard copy to complete and return, please download from the sidepanel of our school newsletter or website.

Student Services

At Beerwah, the Student Services team meets every second week to discuss how best to support our students’ learning and support needs.  Sometimes students’ needs are identified on enrolment or through our moderation process and other times individual student needs are identified by teachers.

Classroom teachers may discuss student needs with parents and carers and if necessary a referral will be made to the Student Services team.  If this is necessary, a green permission form will be sent home, explaining the process and we encourage you to complete the questionnaire on the rear of the form to help us to understand the needs of your student more clearly.

Our team are currently running an intervention program focussing on supporting students requiring additional support in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics.

P&C Report

P&C MEETINGS:

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 21 June at 6:00pm in the school library. We always welcome new members to join. Fresh ideas and ways of working are always welcome.  We plan on heading out for dinner after the meeting, so come join us for a bite to eat after as well.

VOLUNTEERING

A HUGE thank you to all our Book Fair and Reconciliation Week Breakfast volunteers last week. Events like these would not be possible for our school community if we did not have the assistance of volunteers.

We always welcome new volunteers to assist with the various events and tasks that make our P & C function. If you are able to contribute some of your time - even just half an hour would be greatly appreciated.

A few of our ongoing tasks that require volunteers are:

Tuckshop - food preparation, packing of orders, baking/cooking items

Uniform Shop - assisting families with making purchases, stock control

Book Club - collection of orders, packing & distribution of orders

Mother’s & Father’s Day Stalls - set-up, pack-down, serving students

If you want to find out more about how you can volunteer, please email p&c@beerwahss.eq.edu.au or connect through our Facebook page.

All students who attend out of school hour events to volunteer will receive their volunteer superstar badge at the following week's assembly.

Did you know:

Volunteering Allows You to Get to Know Teachers and Staff

Your child’s teacher and school staff are your teammates in parenting during the school year. They have a tremendous impact on children, both academically and socially. Having a presence at school is a great way to get to know them better and show them your support.

Don’t forget: the P&C Association is an approved volunteer organization with Centrelink (Services Australia) so if you need to complete volunteering hours, the school is a great option. This can be extended to grandparents and other friends; they will need to apply for a Blue Card to volunteer in the school which is an easy process we can assist with. Contact us by email and we can arrange to work out how we can help each other.

FACEBOOK PAGE

Facebook is our main form of contact so please follow us and keep an eye out for updates.

If you see one of our updates – for example our next pancake morning notice, please share with your friends. The more people who attend, the more funds we raise, and the more we can buy for your children to use at school. Everyone’s a winner!!!

We’ll also update you on the Tuckshop or Uniform shop, it’s the easiest form of contact so please keep following.

Just find our page and like us to start following. BSS P&C Facebook page

FUNDRAISING

Sockable Fundraiser - Last week your student would have brought home an order form and information regarding the Sockable Fundraiser.

This is a great way to restock your socks, order some comfy gifts, and keep your toes and feet warm AND stylish… Why not ask your colleagues, neighbours or friends and family if they would like to order some from you as well.

Order forms and money to be returned by Tuesday 20 June (week 10). Socks will be sent home in Term 3.

If you have any questions please reach out.

WORKING BEE

Watch this space for next term's working bee details. Extra hands are always welcome. It is a great way to meet new people and build our community spirit here at Beerwah State School.

BOOK CLUB

The best way to order for the book club is online at www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP all books are delivered to the school and distributed to each child. If you would prefer to order as gifts, ensure you select that option and your items will be available for collection from the office. The due date for orders is always stamped on the front of the brochure so don’t miss out! An extra bonus is that the school receives 15% of all order values to purchase books for our library. Books are such a wonderful addition to any child’s life and there are some amazing prices in the book club.

Our Book Fair was a huge hit with families again. Another HUGE thank you to Miss Rachel for coordinating and to all the volunteers who helped have the purchasing times available both mornings and afternoons.

RECONCILIATION WEEK

Thank you to Brenda Mau for coordinating and running the Reconciliation Week breakfast last week. Brenda is looking forward to sharing more of her Indigenous culture and knowledge with the school community this year and into the future (the pancakes were a hit).

Brenda has provided some additional information:

This past week (27 May- 3 June) was Reconciliation Week, and the theme was "Be A Voice For Generations". To celebrate, we held a breakfast at BSS with homemade damper and pancakes, and our meal deal was curry, rice and naan bread- both were a hit! Being able to share food that resonates with Aboriginal and Torres Strait people gives that warm feeling of community, respect and appreciation towards each other- and that is part of the path towards reconciliation.

With the theme "Be A Voice For Generations", I started up a comic page that gives a bit of information on the days that are significant to First Nations people of Australia. I wanted to have this information on hand to help start conversations, ask questions, and learn the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the impacts that it still has on our country today. The comics are currently posted on the 'Beerwah State School P&C Association' facebook page, but I am looking at extending that to other visible areas for everyone that visits BSS to find out information. Let's be that voice for our future generations.

TUCKSHOP

Next term we are going to trial requesting for tuckshop parent/carer volunteers from each class on a weekly roster. Each week will be an allocated class and we ask for volunteers from that class. The roster is below. We would encourage you to let us know if you are available the week that is allocated to your child's class. Our tuckshop volunteers tend to be in the tuckshop for 3 hours on service days. Even half an hour of your time would be appreciated.

Week 1 -14/07/23 Mrs Brannigan (PI1)            Sports Day 20/07/23 Volunteers Required

Week 2 - 21/07/23 Mrs Philpot (1/PJ2)             Week 3 28/07/23 Miss Irvine (2/1B4)

Week 4 04/08/23 Miss Melville (2B2)               Week 5 11/08/23 Miss Prior (3A1)

Week 6 18/07/23 Miss Blake (4/3A4)               Week 7 25/08/23 Miss Mcauley (5/4E2)

Week 8 31/08/23 Miss Bourke (5/A2)              Week 9 08/09/23 M4 Mr Cross (6/5M4)

Week 10 15/09/23 Mrs Craig & Mrs Aslop (6M1)

The P & C will send home a volunteer request form in the coming weeks for this. Please return your form to school and we will be in touch. ALternatively, please email your availability to: p&c@beerwahss.eq.edu.au Tuckshop is usually open Fridays, first break only. Orders are preferred via Qkr! which will be made available one week before. Before ordering, please double check your child’s profile & class as we had some orders going to the wrong class.

We will be trialing cash orders between week 3 and week 10 this term. All orders being made by cash need to be submitted by 3:00pm on the Thursday before tuckshop. Correct money only as no change will be able to be given. Please ensure your child's money is secure in an envelope with their order, name and class clearly labeled on the envelope. No late cash orders will be accepted.

We are very fortunate once again to have the assistance of two dietician students from the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) for the rest of term. Your child/ren may have mentioned they are helping Miss Rachel in the SAKG kitchen teaching the children to make delicious food. They are also helping the tuckshop volunteers to make and serve the meal deals and tuckshop orders.

To keep all parents informed of their progress, we would like to invite all parents to a free tasting on Tuesday morning of week ten, to coincide with the last assembly of the term, and the student of the month awards. Further details will be sent on Skoolbag leading up to week 10 but add it to your diary to sample some delicious treats that will appear on the term 3 tuckshop menu, perfect for chilly school days. Don't forget, tuckshop ordering is preferred on Qkr! and must be placed before 7.30 each Friday morning. As above, any cash orders must be placed by 3:00 pm the afternoon before tuckshop. We have the regular tuckshop menu during week 8 & 9, then a soup meal deal on Thursday 22nd June in week 10. Orders for meal deals must be placed by 4pm the day prior.

Look out for some tasty specials on the tuckshop menu, we're trialing new items and we hope you will love them. We welcome your feedback, either drop us a line to p&c@beerwahss.eq.edu.au or pop into the tuckshop on a Friday morning. It would be great to see a couple of parents giving a few moments to chop some veggies or make a sandwich or two, ten minutes would be so helpful

Kandoo Joeys' Playgroup

JUNE MUSIC MONTH

June is music month at Kandoo Joeys Playgroup. When children listen to music it plays a role in their development, when a child plays music, it ignites all areas of their development and sets them up for life with infinite skills. In the early years, musical experiences encourage the development of language development, speech perception, and sound processing. When children dance to music they build their gross motor skills and self-expression. This month the children can make their own musical instrument and enjoy playing it in our end of term concert.

Kandoo Joeys is open to all families with before-school-aged children and runs every Wednesday from 9.00am-11.00am in J Block, next to the Admin Block. Bring along a hat and some morning tea for your little one and come and join in the fun and social connections as your children learn through play at Kandoo Joeys Playgroup.

For more information contact Linda Merwood at playgroup@beerwahss.eq.edu.au
