Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and carers,

It has been a very and productive week at Lae International School, where we welcomes Dr. Cherie Litwiller, Director of Education for IEA, to our school.. Dr. Litwiller attended our School’s Board of Governors Meeting and took the time to visit both campuses, where she inspected the recent CAPEX works that are now nearing completion. Her visit reaffirmed the progress we are making toward enhancing the learning environment for our students.

I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to all parents for ensuring that their children are dressed in the correct school uniform. Your support plays an essential role in maintaining the school’s standards and fostering a sense of pride among our students.

A big thank you to all the families who joined us for our Family Movie Night in celebration of  International Day of the Family. It was great to see so many turn out for a very enjoyable night supporting our SRC and upcoming student trips.

We are excited about the upcoming STEM Fair, which will take place at the end of Week 7. This event will showcase our students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We encourage all students to participate with our best exhibits to participate in the broader provincial STEM fair.

Additionally, our Inclusive Education Committee has been actively working to ensure the best possible interventions for students across the school. The committee has met for secondary students and will meet for primary students this week, strengthening our commitment to inclusive education and student support.

Lastly, I encourage all parents and carers to maintain open communication with their child’s class or homeroom teacher regarding any concerns or queries. Your partnership is vital in fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment for every student at Lae International School.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Warm regards

Mr Greg Neville

Children’s Author Zoom in:

We had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Nicky Lyng to the school virtually. Mrs Lyng joined the classes via zoom all the way from France to talk about her experience as a children’s book author. Mrs Lyng has written and self-published a series of books called ‘The Horton Chronicles’. The books follow the main character Horton who is hare, around the village of Bunbury, as he becomes and unlikely hero in the story. Mrs Lyng explained to the children across primary how her books are anthropomorphic, where animals take on the characteristics of humans. The children were treated to a reading from the second book of the series. As we celebrate Book Week it was great to have the opportunity for students at LIS to ask their questions and find out more about the writing process.

Track and Field Spirit Carnival

From Week 6 in PE lessons all students Prep to Grade 10 will be covering track and field sports to support them in this year’s Spirit carnival. Grade 11 and 12 will be participating and have the opportunity for afterschool and lunchtime training. We expect all Day and Boarding students to be present for these days in Week 9.

Drone Lunchtime ECA Opportunities

In the secondary school we have started a sign out system for the school drones at lunchtimes. Students can come and sign out one of our 5 drones for use in lunchtime and then sign it back in at the end of the lunch period. So far students have enjoyed having this opportunity and we welcome all to gain experience in flying the drones.

STEM Fair:

Students should have signed up their groups for the upcoming STEM fair themed, ‘Putting an End to Plastic’. We encourage all students from Grade 5 to Grade 12 to make the effort and participate in the fairs. In the final heat in week 9 we will have prizes will be available for the winners.

School Arrival Times:

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

Head of Primary Campus Notices

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to this week’s edition of primary news.

Introducing Prep FN class

We are pleased to share that, due to increasing enrolment, a new Prep FN class has been formed to accommodate our growing student body. This expansion ensures a well-managed learning environment, allowing every child to succeed. Students in the new class have settled in beautifully, enjoying their new space and building and creating strong connections with their teacher.

Campus Safety

To support campus safety, there is a new procedure for entry and exit. The campus entry gate will remain locked during school hours, and all parents or visitors arriving between 8:30 AM and 3 PM will need to report to the security desk for assistance. At 3 PM, the gate will be opened, allowing parents to enter and collect their child/ren from the hall.

We also want to emphasise the importance of lesson completion and structured transitions at the end of the day. Packing up and maintaining focus in the final minutes of class are vital to ensure students retain key learning. Minimising disruptions helps keep learning on track.

Family Movie Night

A huge thank you to all families who joined us for the movie night! The event was a roaring success. Your support made it a truly memorable evening, and we look forward to more gatherings in the future.

Head of Secondary Campus Notices

Dear all

Welcome back to another edition of the secondary toksave!

As we reach the end of week 5. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the achievements and progress we have made as a school community. It has been an encouraging and successful first 5 weeks of term 2.

One of the most notable improvements has been the change in attitude among our secondary school students towards their studies. Their focus and commitment have grown considerably, and we are proud of the effort they are putting into their learning. This shift is an excellent step in building stronger habits towards academic excellence.

The after-school activities program has also been a great success this term. The range of activities offered has given students opportunities to try new things, develop skills, and build friendships in a fun, engaging environment. Activities like these play an important role in students’ personal development, and we’d love to hear your thoughts about how the program can be further improved.

If you’d like to lead an activity in the future, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us—we’re always open to new ideas and collaboration.

For students interested in joining the upcoming Basketball ECA, pre-reading materials are available upon request. Feel free to reach out for further details!

School boy’s rugby at Lae Secondary oval every weekend for the LIS U19 boys. We have netball for staff and students at the Sir Ignatus Kilage’s Stadium. Please come along and support our students.

School expectation on standard of dress

Safeguarding remains one of our top priorities. We are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff. Together, we can continue to build a school community that prioritizes the well-being of every child.
