Eastlakes Edition

Term 2 Week 9

Acknowledgement to Country

Students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, pay respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful and responsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

It has been a busy time at our school with many wonderful activities and events to share with you.

Our students from Kindergarten to Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed the whole school music incursion from Rock Steady Music. It was fantastic to see them engaged and having fun with music.

We are proud to announce that our students performed excellently in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition, with two students achieving runner-up positions, Caius 3K and Abung 6-5T. Congratulations to them for their confidence and skill!

The recent Spelling Bee Competition was very exciting, and we are delighted to have student representatives advancing to the regional competition to proudly represent our school. Congratulations to winners Cheriya 6-5T and Hasan 5-4S and runners up Zara 6-5T and Ria 3K.

Our K–2 students are continuing to improve and build on their athletic skills and will soon have the opportunity to put these into practice at the upcoming athletics carnival.

All students participated in the NRMA Road Safety event, where they learned important road safety rules to help keep them safe.

We would also like to thank the parents who attended the recent Reading for Pleasure workshop. It was a great session filled with ideas and valuable discussions about how to support your children’s reading at home. We will be looking at other ways we can deliver workshops for parents and carers possibly after school hours.

Teachers are currently finalising semester one academic reports, which will be sent home next week. If parents or carers have not made an appointment to meet with their child's teacher and wish to do so, contact the school on 9667 3659, email eastlakes-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or speak with your child's teacher.

Next week, on Tuesday 23/6 we will be having our first Cakes and Cookies Stall. Students will be able to bring a gold coin to buy yummy treats at lunchtime.

The P&C will be hosting an end-of-term event which will include the official launch of the new canteen mural and a movie night. Please see the details below for more information.

Finally, in the last week of term, we will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC, and we look forward to engaging our students in meaningful celebrations and learning experiences.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
