Last week our Year 4–6 students attended camp in Creswick, where they participated in a range of outdoor bush activities. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones and experience many activities for the very first time.
Camps such as these provide invaluable opportunities for class bonding, building resilience and strengthening friendships. Students worked together, encouraged one another and demonstrated growing independence throughout the experience.
Staff reported that our students were exceptionally well behaved, respectful of each other and enthusiastic in cheering one another on. They represented our school community with pride and we are very proud of the way they embraced every opportunity with positivity and teamwork.
They tell me the food was very good too and that always helps!
Safety
Safety must remain our highest priority at all times, particularly during busy pick-up periods.
We have noticed an increase in dangerous driving behaviours during afternoon school pick-up. Some drivers have been stopping in the middle of the road and allowing children to run to or from vehicles, while others have been performing U-turns in what is a very narrow street. This creates significant risk for our students and families. Unfortunately, there was a near miss on Friday afternoon.
As a result, we have been in contact with the Principal of Kew East Primary School, local Police, Council representatives and the office of Jess Wilson to raise our concerns. We understand there will be an increased Police and Council presence in the coming weeks to support safer traffic management.
While some congestion at pick-up time may be unavoidable, unsafe driving is not. With patience, care and a shared commitment to following road rules, we can ensure that our school environment remains safe for everyone. We ask all families to model safe and courteous behaviour to protect our children and our community.
Information evening Years 1-6
Following on from the Foundation Information Evening held last week, we now look forward to our Years 1–6 Information Sessions taking place this week. Session times are as follows:
- Years 1/2 at 6:15pm in their classroom
- Years 3/4 at 6:50pm in the upstairs classroom
- Years 5/6 at 7:30pm.
We encourage all families to attend these important sessions to meet teachers and learn more about the year ahead.
Major fundraising event for 2026
On Saturday 21st March, the Parents and Friends Committee will be hosting a Trivia Night as our major fundraising event for the year. Events such as these play a vital role in supporting our school community, with all funds raised going directly back into improving our learning environment and enhancing opportunities for our students.
We warmly encourage families and friends to support this wonderful community event. Please see the information included in this newsletter regarding ticket purchases and event details.
