ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 3 Week 10

Principals report

Dear Families,

As we reach the last day of what has been a very busy Term 3, I’d like to wish all our families a safe and restful holiday—hopefully free from the colds, flus and tummy bugs that have been circulating.

This edition of the newsletter is dedicated to our whole school excursion to Sydney on Wednesday. I am incredibly proud of every student who attended. Their excellent behaviour, curiosity and resilience truly stood out and made this such a memorable experience.

It is a privilege to take our entire school on an excursion, and time and again your children rise to the occasion.

It was particularly wonderful to watch our older buddies guiding and caring for their younger partners, whether on public transport or walking through the busy city streets. These moments really highlight the strength of our school community.

I would also like to thank our dedicated staff for supporting this opportunity. Taking 105 students to Sydney on public transport is certainly no small feat, but the experience it provides is invaluable—a memory your children will carry with them for years to come.

Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday break.

Our Day at the Museum

Yesterday September 24th we went on a Sydney excursion. First we went to see the “Wild Planet Exhibition”. We saw giraffes, turtles, birds, cats, mammals, snakes, fish, dingos and bats.

Then we went to see the “Minerals & Crystals”.

We saw a huge piece of gold. It was really cool.

We got lunch from the Museum and had an apple, water and a sandwich for lunch.

After having lunch in Hyde Park, we got to see Lego in the Relics Exhibition. There were lots of cool buildings.

It took 3 hours to get to Sydney and 3 hours home.

I'm grateful for Wednesday because we went for an excursion to Sydney. We went to the Australian Museum.

The best part of the excursion was the mineral exhibition. It was awesome! We saw a huge amethyst and gold nuggets. In the mineral exhibit we saw a huge piece of a meteor which weighed 617kg and it was found in a desert.

The second best part was the Relics exhibition. There were lots of lego displays built in relics of things and we could build with lego.

I had an awesome time!

Yesterday we went on our Sydney Excursion. I woke up at around 6:00 to get ready, as the train left at 7:24 AM. We drove down to the train station and got there at 7:00 AM. As I got out of the car I met up with some of my friends and we walked across the road together. We hopped on the train, my friends and I sat with each other. A few minutes into the train ride we pulled out our games and played them for the rest of the ride.

Later on we arrived at Central and went to the bathroom. Shortly after, we got into a long line and found our buddies, to safely transport them to the museum. To get there we had to catch the underground city train and hold onto our buddies. Once we entered the museum our bags were put on a rack for the day so we didn’t have to bother carrying them around. We stepped foot into a room with some red and blue carpets on the ground. A few staff members introduced us to the place and told us how to find our way around.

I chose to go to the dinosaurs first. We walked around for a bit and then, we saw it. Our first step in and there was an enormous herbivore, taller than a Tyranasaurous Rex! I saw a big red wall that read “T-Rex” and I saved the best for last. I walked the other way and found some fossils, more dinosaurs and even an Australian dinosaur. Shortly after I walked over to the Tyrannosaurus Rex… it was amazing, this one wasn't real but it was an amazing replica made by National Geographic! There were also models of its heart, stomach and muscles. I didn’t want to leave. It was amazing.

Later on we went and collected our provided lunch. We walked to Hyde Park and ate very peacefully… until the three Ibis’ came. Unfortunately a sandwich was stolen and eaten by an Ibis. After lunch was finished we went on our way back, firstly shoving our rubbish in the bin. We went back to the Museum, all of us were extremely hot, then finally we went back into the museum and cooled down.

After this we went to see the animals. My friends and I found a large fish, a tall giraffe and many more animals like lions, bison and even more interesting animals. We saw some National Geographic videos of them keeping animals safe. The animals were fun but the dinosaurs were better by far.

Finally the relics. I was thinking that this would be the best one yet. It was good. There were Lego cars, Lego jetskis, Lego arcade games and more. It was very fun but very crowded. There were activities and even more fun stuff. It was extremely cool seeing all the lego moving and minifigures playing around, but it didn't beat the dinosaurs.

We walked our buddies back to the train station, it felt longer than the last walk there. Finally we got back to the train station and boarded the train. I found a spot with my friends and I could finally rest my legs. We talked on the way home, had some laughs and played games.

Altogether it was an extremely fun day with lots of interesting things to do and see. It was a great excursion.

On Wednesday we went on an excursion. Here is how it went!

First,we arrived at the train station at 7:00am in the morning. Then when we were on the train I sat with Evie,Harrison k and Zac. We played so many games like Uno,Who Knows Me Best and many others.Once we arrived at Central we had to go on another train and squish in to fit.Once we went off the train we walked through Hyde Park. When we walked inside the museum we got split into groups.

Then,my group went to the dinosaur exhibit. We saw so many footprints, skulls and bones. Then we saw this huge fake dinosaur. They had a mini tv to see how it was created. It was so big! We also saw the dinosaur’s fake insides. We saw its heart and eyeballs.

After that,we went to the Lego relics. It was so cool.We saw so many creations and so many inspiring ideas. We also got to build our own creations. I made stairs but there were so many good creations like planes, boats and even more.

Lastly,we went back on the train and I sat with Evie,Harrison k,Penelope and Zac. We were so bored but we couldn't stop talking about how much fun we had. It took so long to get back to Lithgow station but it was totally worth going on that excursion.

I loved it so much it was so much fun and so cool. I sure was exhausted but it was totally worth it.

First, we got to the train station at 7:00 AM and we got on the train by 7:24 AM. We were on the train for around 3 hours to get to Sydney and the train ride was really nice.  Ruby and I were looking out the window for pigeons.

After that, once we got off the train at Central Station, we went on another train to St James Station. When we got off, we walked past a really big fountain and through Hyde Park with LOTS of trees!

We then got to the museum and three kind ladies told us what we were doing and what to do if we got lost and not to touch anything.

We later got to choose if we wanted to see dinosaurs or animals and I chose animals. The animals we saw were bears, monkeys and lots more!

Next we had lunch which they gave to us. There was a ham and cheese sandwich, an apple and some water. We walked to the park to eat our lunch and there were lots of bin chickens! They kept coming close to us but they were cute so I wasn’t bothered by them.

Afterwards we walked back to the museum and went to look at the lego! There were so many things we watched two little movies then we looked at the lego things. There were questions and lego in a fridge, a car, even a jetski!

We then ventured all the way back to the train station, we caught the train at St James station to go to Central station, we then caught the train back to Lithgow to go home, another three hour ride. It was quite cold when we got off the train so we made sure we had our jumpers on!

I loved the museum and being on the train but my legs hurt a lot after walking and standing for that long.
