Principals Report

Morning Routine

Morning routine is now in full swing and has been rolled out effectively to all 3 of our classes. What is morning routine you might ask? Every day for the first 30 minutes students across the school are engaged in high energy, high impact explicit teaching. It is broken into four quadrants:

    1.  Weather and calendar,

    2.  100 Days of learning (Numeracy)

    3.  Sentence of the day and

    4.  Talk for learning.

There are so many benefits to the morning routine that we are already seeing success across the school.

 Arriving on Time/Partial Absences

With all the benefits of the morning routine in mind, it's really important that your child is here before the bell ready to take part in the morning routine. Once the bell has rung in the morning, all classes have 60 seconds to go from door to floor and start the morning routine. So, if your child is 3 minutes late, they have already missed out on 2 minutes of learning. Arriving at school between 8:00am and 8:25am is the best way the maximise your child's opportunities to learn. It is also important to note here that if your child is becoming or is anxious about attending school, another strategy that can help in this space is to ensure they are here consistently before the bell so they can settle into school well before the bell goes every morning.

Monday Morning Assemblies

To further support the Morning Routine, we have moved our Monday Morning Assembly from 8:30am to just before recess at 10:45am. This will hopefully reduce the number of students who arrive late and sleep in on Mondays, thinking that they are only missing the assembly. Now late comers on Mondays, as every day, will be missing out on learning. Moving Monday morning assemblies also has the added bonus of reducing the amount of time students are spent outside in those cold winter mornings.

P&C Meeting

At the last P&C meeting the committee discussed a range of insurance coverage options. From if a student gets injured at school to if a parent helper gets hurt. As it stands currently, if a student gets injured at school, they are covered for the ambulance ride to hospital, but the rest of the expenses is covered by the parents. Parent helpers or visitors aren't covered at all. This is something the committee will more than likely be voting on and actioning at the next meeting so come along if you would like to have a say in this matter. Alternatively, you can always email me your thoughts or questions and I can pass them on during the meeting on your behalf.

Spotlight on C1

This week C1 have been learning about materials, their purposes and conducting scientific experiments. Students performed experiments to determine which material was the strongest, and which material would float in water. Students have enjoyed putting on their scientist cap, making predictions and recording their findings.
