Term 3 Week 6

Make My Day

Today I was impressed with Lilly from Kindergarten in K/1B and her wonderful sentence writing. Lily was very proud to show me how hard she has been working in class! Well done, Lily!

Year 4 Blue Mountains Excursion

Last week, Year 4 students enjoyed an exciting overnight excursion to the Blue Mountains. It was a wonderful experience filled with many highlights and core memories that will stay with our students for years to come.

We extend a huge thank you to Mrs Nebauer for her excellent organisation and to all the teachers who attended. Your dedication and the time you generously take away from your families to provide our students with such valuable experiences are truly appreciated.

Stage 1 Tocal Homestead Excursion

Our Stage 1 students recently visited Tocal Homestead. This excursion helped support their history unit from the first semester. The students took part in fun and interesting historical activities, giving them a chance to explore and learn about the past in a hands-on way.

We truly appreciate the ongoing support from our school community and value all the contributions that everyone makes. The care and commitment shown by our families, staff, and students make CBPS a great place to be.

Kind regards,

Lisa Dallaway

Relieving Principal

Class of the Week

KF and K/1B

KF and K1B are very excited to welcome the arrival of our chickens and hatchlings. We have four fluffy adorable friends to watch and there are more chicken eggs waiting to hatch in the incubator. We look forward to seeing how they hatch from an egg to a chicken and are excited to gently pat them.

This term, we have also enjoyed participating in dancing for sport, learning some favourite dances such as The Macarena. We have also been busy practicing our routines for the upcoming assemblies, and we are excited to showcase our performances.

Check-in assessment for Years 3 - 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 3, students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

  • The assessment will be scheduled for our Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students during Weeks 6 to 9 (Monday 24 August to Friday 18 September) with a finalisation week in week 10 (21 September to 25 September).

  • All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment. Year 6 students will also complete a writing assessment during weeks 6 to 9.

Debating

Congratulations to our ‘Caves Beach Sharks’ on another WIN in the NSW Premiers Debating Challenge. The Sharks debated Pelican Flat PS with the topic "All Year 5 and 6 students should learn martial arts for one term at school". Our team were the Negative and successfully painted a picture of a 'Hunger Games' style future for students if the Affirmative team won!

The adjudicator praised their effective structure, outstanding rebuttals, and public speaking confidence.

Well done, Sharks!

Tocal Homestead - Stage 1

Stage 1 had a wonderful time on their excursion to Tocal Homestead, stepping back in time and experiencing what life was like in the ‘olden days’.

Students participated in a variety of hands-on activities, including washing clothes, collecting water using a yoke water carrier, dressing up like our ancestors and playing traditional games. They also enjoyed setting the dining table in the beautiful manor home and learning about life in the past.

Tocal Homestead staff commented on the beautiful behaviour of our students, who demonstrated the Caves Beach Public School values by showing kindness, respect and care for each other, staff and the environment. It was a memorable day of learning.

Galgabba Public Speaking

Each year, the schools in our Galgabba Community of Schools come together for a Public Speaking Competition in preparation for the Zone Public Speaking Competition in September.

Well done to our representatives:

Early Stage 1: Amelia

Stage 1: Laynie and Gabby

Stage 2: Oscar and Hannah

Stage 3: Aaylah and Nina

An extra-special congratulations to Hannah, who was the Stage 2 winner of the Galgabba Public Speaking Competition.

Our students demonstrated exceptional confidence, humour and an impressive ability to engage their audience. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school!

We wish them all the very best as they move towards the Zone Competition in September.

Tournament of Minds

This talented group has been working incredibly hard to create, rehearse and refine their solution ready to present at the upcoming ‘Tournament of Minds’ competition.

Their commitment has been fantastic, with the team regularly giving up their break times to practise, problem-solve and perfect their performance. We love seeing their creativity, teamwork and determination in action!

Grow Your Mind

Forgiveness

Forgiveness means you give people a second chance. Forgiveness is a strength that we can call on when we want to let go of anger that is no longer helpful to us. Remember, there is nothing wrong with feeling angry. In fact it can be a really helpful emotion but it becomes less so if you can’t stop thinking about the wrong doing and it prevents you from enjoying life! You need compassion and empathy to grow forgiveness.

 Is this your signature strength?

 Try flexing this strength by:

  •  Letting go of bad thoughts you have about someone who has let you down
  • Telling someone who has let you down, that you have moved on
  • Practising it on yourself! If you have hurt someone, or made a mistake and have made amends, it is time to forgive yourself 😊

Learning and Support

Anxiety in Pre-teens

Emotional ups and downs are a normal part of growing up, especially during adolescence when many changes happen. Pre-teens and teenagers often feel strong and changing emotions.

You can support them by listening, talking, and staying close. However, if these mood changes start to affect daily life, it might be a sign of a more serious mental health issue. If you’re worried, have a chat with your child and consider getting advice from your GP.
