Information is going home today regarding our upcoming Father’s Day event being held on Friday the 1st of September here in the school hall. All fathers and father figures are invited to come and celebrate Father’s Day with a BBQ Brekky from 8:15AM onwards. Please RSVP via Qkr! by next Tuesday, 29th August.

A reminder that we are continuing to collect donations for the Gisborne Food Bank through till the end of August. We have had a great response to this program and have a week and a half left to really make a difference for people in our local community who are needing support at this time.

Good luck to our students who are participating in the Hot Shots Tennis competition this coming Friday. Due to unforeseen circumstances the location of the competition has had to be changed to the Macedon Tennis Club courts at Tony Clarke Reserve. If your child is participating they will need to be dropped down at the courts by 9:00AM on the day and will walk back to school upon completion of the competition. A big thank you to Hayley Saunders who is organising this event for all schools.

Thank you

Building Resilience, Inclusion, and Wellbeing Together

What’s been happening this term?

Social and Emotional Learning

This term, all students have created a Kimochis Journal which they used to record their learning.

Journal prompt example – Is it more important to do your best or be the best?

The grade 5/6 students have been working on expanding their emotional vocabulary by engaging with Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence Mood Meter.

Following the concept of "Name it to tame it." Students are learning that the better we are at recognising and labelling the emotions we feel, the more capable we are of responding to them in healthy, helpful ways. The 5/6 class are currently creating a whole school Mood Meter which will be displayed the bag area.

Inclusion Incursions with Tate Kemp

Our upper primary students have enjoyed an Inclusion Incursion with Tate Kemp from All Abilities Public Speaking. Tate, who has lived experience with a disability, is a true inspiration. He talked with our students, helping them to understand what a disability is and how we can create an inclusive world.

Thriving Kids and School Project: A Shared Approach

We're proud to be part of the Thriving Kids and Schools Project, a community-wide initiative focused on nurturing the mental health and wellbeing of our students. But it's not just about the parents; our staff are equally involved. Our teachers and staff members are engaging in professional development under this initiative. This ensures that we all speak the same language when it comes to mental health and wellbeing, creating a united and cohesive approach that involves our entire school community.

Have you registered for the three free seminars? If not yet, you can register here.

We're a Be You School! What Does That Mean?

We are a proud Be You school. As the Wellbeing and Inclusion Co-ordinator, I work closely with a consultant from Be You to ensure that we are implementing evidence-based strategies to enable everyone – students, educators, parents and carers – can be mentally healthy.

Thank you

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

While the DET suggests a random sample of approximately 80 families or 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians be selected to participate, at Mount Macedon Primary School all families are invited to participate in this survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from:

Monday 7th  August to Friday 8th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Survey results will be collated by DET and sent to the principal who will communicate to parents/caregivers/guardians through annual reporting. The online survey will be available in English, and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Haka Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish and Vietnamese. Please speak to the school office if you would like more information.

Instructions to complete the survey have been sent to parents via email, so please look out for this in your email in box. If you need the survey link re sent, please contact the school office.

A message from OSHC

Services Australia has started balancing Child Care Subsidy (CCS) for the 2022–23 financial year.  Families who get CCS must confirm their income with Services Australia so their payments can be balanced.

Families confirm their income by:

lodging their tax return with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), or

telling Services Australia they don't need to lodge a tax return, even if they've already told the ATO.

Once Services Australia has balanced a family’s CCS, they will send them an outcome.

Please assure families that Services Australia know the importance of balancing payments and that they’ll do their best to complete the balancing process as quickly as they can.

You may also wish to display a balancing basics poster at your service. We have more information for providers on our website. Please direct families with questions to the Services Australia website.

Help us spread the word about activity test changes

The CCS activity test has changed for families with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children. Have you checked out our new resources about the changes?

Families can now get at least 36 hours of CCS per fortnight for each Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander child in their care. This is regardless of their activity level.

Families should call Services Australia on the Centrelink families line to let them know a child in their care is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. It is voluntary to tell Services Australia this.

We partnered with SNAICC, the National Voice for our Children, on resources you can download and distribute with families in your community. The resources include a video, flyer, blog and social media tile with information about the changes.

Go to our website to download the resources and learn more about the changes.

FREE 'Little Angler Kits' for Year 5 students

The Victorian Government is investing $1.5 million from the Recreational Fishing Licence Trust Fund to provide up to 95,000 Little Angler Kits to primary school aged children in Victoria.

The free kits provide a wonderful school holiday activity for children with their families and help ease the cost of living, providing a fun activity close to home.

Grade 5 students at all Victorian schools, including ours, will be offered the opportunity to receive a FREE Little Angler Kit. Grade 5 students have been selected based on the Victorian Curriculum focus, movement and motor development, and safety considerations.

The program is entirely voluntary. Schools were provided with the option to opt out of the program. Our school has opted to stay in the program so that parents can decide whether they want their child(ren) to receive a free fishing kit.

Parents of Grade 5 students can advise the school if they do not wish their child(ren) to participate for any reason whatsoever. We support parents in making decisions that align with their family values and beliefs.

The roll out of kits will occur through the second half of 2023 (16 October - 4 December) so that all participating children will have a kit in time for the summer school holidays.

The kits include a rod, reel with line, tackle tray, some tackle and information on how to use them to catch a fish. Please note that the tackle tray includes fishing hooks. The tackle tray will be wrapped in cardboard and placed inside a pocket inside the fishing kit bag, which will be sealed with a cable tie to discourage students from opening their kits until they are with a parent or carer.

Kits will be handed out to students to take home with them as soon as the school receives them. Teachers will tell students not to open the kits until they are safely at home with a parent or carer, however parents can contact the school and request to collect their kit from the school themselves if they prefer.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority will create a Little Angler hub on their website, which will be live when the kits start being distributed. It will have useful information, instructional videos and online resources about where and how to fish linking to existing resources from Fishcare and new resources to be produced just for the Little Angler Kits program.

This initiative aims to grow recreational fishing participation in Victoria by actively encouraging primary school aged children to learn how to fish, as well as learning more about marine life and the natural environment.
