Student Success:
Congratulations to our SHINE students who competed in the Inclusive Boccia Competition recently. They did a great job on the day and learnt a lot about teamwork. Well done to the debating team who had their second debate against Eleebana last week. The team lost the debate but performed well. We wish them luck in their next debate. Well done to the students who participated in the netball gala day last week. From all accounts it was a great day with great sportsmanship shown by Warners Bay students. Congratulations to Sofia who competed in the Hunter Cross Country Championships recently. Sofia finished in fourth place and will now represent the Hunter at the State Championships! What an outstanding result!
Athletics Carnival:
Our athletics carnival was a great success recently with students involved in a range of events throughout the day. Congratulations to our age champions Buddy, Samantha, Jax, Evie, Annabella and Bailey, and to all students who won ribbons in their event. A big thank you to the Warners Bay High students who assisted in running the carnival on the day and to Mrs Bath, the sports committee and teachers for coordinating the day.
Bay Brilliant Brains Engineering Competition:
Congratulations to all students who entered this term’s Bay Brilliant Brains Engineering Competition. The towers were tested on Thursday for strength and we have a winner for each stage. The winners were determined by the highest tower that held the most water. If a tower was shorter than others, but held more water, it was declared the winner.
Our winners were:
Kindergarten: George
Stage 1: Amelia
Stage 2: Jana
Stage 3: Jax
Ignite Programs:
Our High Potential and Gifted Ignite programs are running throughout the school with Maths and English programs being held each week alongside our creative and performing arts Ignite programs of band, dance and choir. Our Ignite programs are a great way for students to ignite their passion for learning and achieve beyond their grade level and beyond the classroom. These programs will continue with many opportunities to come.
NAPLAN:
We have received the preliminary NAPLAN results for our school and they are excellent with many results above stage average. A wonderful achievement for our students and hardworking teachers. Parent reports will be sent out next term for individual students.
Reports:
Semester One reports will be sent home via School Bytes this Friday. This year the Department have released a streamlined reporting format for schools to use, so your child’s report will look different to previous years but will still contain details on your child’s achievement across the semester. Three-way interviews, with the student, parents and teacher will be held in Week 3 of next term to discuss your child’s progress.
NAIDOC week:
This week we are celebrating NAIDOC Week across the school. An assembly was held today to begin the week, and students will be engaged in lessons throughout the week to explore and celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
P&C Meeting:
Our P&C meeting for Term 2 that was scheduled to be held tomorrow 6pm at Warners Bay Hotel has been postponed due to the severe weather forecast. A new venue, date and time will be advised shortly.
Bandlink:
Our band students will be participating in Band Link this week. This opportunity allows our students to play in a large ensemble under the guidance of professional conductors and hone their skills. Another exciting High Potential and Gifted Opportunity for our students.
PBL Reward Day:
Our students have the opportunity to spend the gotchas that they have collected this term on our PBL Reward Day this Thursday. Students voted for their rewards and have chosen the following:
K – 2: robotics session, movie and popcorn, art session (playdough, clay and chalk)
Year 3 – 6: Cooking session, laptop session, sport session
It will be a fun reward day for all!
School Holidays:
This Friday is the last day of Term 2. I would like to wish all families a safe and relaxing holiday! Students will return to school on Tuesday 22nd July. Monday 21st July will be a school development day for staff only.
Farewell:
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during my time as Principal of Warners Bay. It has been a rewarding experience working with such dedicated staff, students and community. I look forward to hearing about the great successes the school and students will have in the future.
