From the Leadership Team

Welcome back!

Welcome back to the start of the final school term for 2024. Welcome to all the new students and families to Kapunda Primary School. Term 4 is a busy term with lots of learning, reflection, achievements and special events to look forward to. We hope all students have a successful and rewarding Term 4.

Kindy transition visits

Our Kindy transition visits are on a Wednesday in weeks 5, 6 and 7 this term from 9am - 12pm. Our goals for the transition program are for children to enjoy an experience at school, begin to have an understanding of where things are at school and of what happens at school. Children will start to recognise some staff at school and will have an opportunity to develop positive relationships with them.

World Teacher’s Day 2024

World Teacher’s Day was celebrated in week 2 of this term on Friday 25th October. World Teachers Day honours the dedication, hard work and passion of teachers who play a crucial role in shaping the minds and futures of our children.

World Teachers Day was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible work our teachers do at Kapunda Primary School every day. We are very fortunate to have amazing teachers and SSOs and thank them for all the work that they do.

2025 Class Placements

We are starting the process in preparation for class placements for 2025. Teachers will be talking to students about friendship preferences in the upcoming weeks. Classes will be configured in ways to maximise student learning and maintain positive friendships in an environment that is balanced in terms of gender, social development and learning needs. This week on Monday 28th October a form has been emailed out and posted on Audiri for parents concerning class placements for 2025. Parents are able to use this form to notify the school of any placement concerns or considerations that you would like us to be aware of. There will be no requests for particular teachers. All forms need to be returned to the front office by week 4 Friday 8th November 2024.

Investigations with Mrs Schultz Class

Each week activities are set out. Students choose which activities they would like to do and explore the materials. Investigations uses a range of open ended experiences to allow students to investigate, explore, manipulate, create and interact along with instruction in skills and knowledge in literacy, numeracy and other curriculum areas.

Jaxon and Ellie were the reporter and recorder. They took pictures and spoke about interesting things they had seen.

Five people shared. They made Highway Number 1 with a map of Australia. The class learnt the song in Music. “I made a Highway number 1 flag because we learnt the song in Music. It goes past lots of food shops.,” said Hunter.

Ellie said, “I made a bag to show lots of cool stuff to do at home. We will play a game at home. There is paperwork in it.’

Jaxon’s favourite picture is of the castle he made. “The castle was on a table and it had orange and blue and purple and green. I looked at the cardboard and then I made it. The King and Queen were going in and the cat ran away.”

Iyla made a Japanese town out of blocks. There was a statue in the middle of the old King and Queen. They went to a Japanese ceremony. There was a bird on the lady.

Charlie made Highway Number 1 because it goes past lots of capital cities. It goes past a lot of animals.

Kaleb made a tag. He cut around the paper and wrote a name.

“I made a Highway number 1. I added red, yellow and purple. I made it for my mum,” said Jaxon.

Elka and Lucy were measuring the dolls to see which one was taller.

Class Awards - Term 4

Congratulations Fiona Ryan - Winner of the Minister for Education Award 2024

Fiona has made a huge contribution to the positive wellbeing of the students, school and community. She has excelled as a school captain this year, advocating for students and speaking up for those that need support.

She has set up a science club at lunchtimes which has given a large number of kids an activity for them to do at playtimes, she even supported the connection with the local kindergarten by visiting then and performing science experiments for the kindergarten kids as well.

She has run multiple competitions and fundraisers for the students, including a drawing competition and a fundraiser for the homeless. With everything that Fiona does she gives it her all and works independently, not waiting for teachers to do it for her. Fiona also volunteers at multiple organisations outside of school, showing this same determination and drive with everything that she does.

Everything that Fiona does she does with a smile on her face making her approachable to all the students and ensuring that they have someone they can turn to when they ae in need. Fiona can often be found supporting younger students with their games or problems in the yard, often picking up on this and helping before the yard duty teachers have even noticed!

Fiona runs our Student Voice meetings each fortnight and supports the students to achieve action from their ideas. When they need an area of the school cleaned up, she organizes a group and does it, when the kids want more fun activities she runs them, when kids need more support accessing play equipment she gets it out and teaches them how to use it. She does all this independently and follows through with all her proposed ideas.

Fiona is a great role model at our school, helping run our wellbeing assemblies each fortnight. She even turned the behaviour expectations into a fun chant for the kids which she starts each assembly with. We are extremely proud of her as a school captain and believe she would be a very deserving recipient of this award.

Premier's Reading Challenge - Congratulations Miss Amalie's Class

Kapunda High School - Important Canteen News

As of the start of term 4 our school canteen will  be closed every Wednesday starting from Wednesday 16th Oct through to end of term 4.

Unfortunately this is due to lack of sales on Wednesdays and lack of volunteers.

Parents and Students please mark this in your calendar that no canteen as of term 4 on a Wednesday.

We really need to reach out to parents, caregivers and grandparents for next year if you can spare any time at all to help volunteer in the canteen.

The School really want to be able to keep our canteen running for our students, but unfortunately this may not be possible if we can not get volunteers to help.

You can pick your times or days, even one day a fortnight or month and it is really only 4 – 5 hours but you can do less if you wish to.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

So if anyone would like to know more about being a volunteer for next year please contact the Kapunda High and ask for Kaye.
