Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

August 2025, Term 3 Week 4

A Message from the Principal

It has been another exciting and productive week at Plattsburg, filled with rich learning opportunities, special events, and celebrations of our wonderful school community.

Our Stage 2 excursion to Glenrock was a massive success! It was fantastic to see our students so engaged, curious, and eager to participate in this excellent learning experience. The smiles, teamwork, and enthusiasm from the day truly reflected the best of Plattsy spirit.

A big thank you to Miss Chrystie for helping coordinate our new Student Representative Council (SRC) program. We are looking forward to seeing the enthusiasm from students who are keen to take on a leadership role and contribute to our school’s decision-making and activities. This is an exciting opportunity for our young leaders to shine.

In classrooms, we continue to make great progress with our Sounds Write program. All our K–2 staff have been speaking so positively about the impact it is having on student learning and engagement in literacy. I’m also looking forward to our 3–6 staff completing their professional learning in the program, ensuring a consistent and high-quality approach to literacy across the school.Next week is shaping up to be another busy one at Plattsburg:

  • Jump Rope for Heart begins, promising a fun and active day for our kids while also promoting fitness and heart health.
  • Our Spelling Bee will be held – thank you to Miss Anne for coordinating this exciting competition that encourages our students to challenge themselves.
  • We welcome our newest families at the Kindergarten Orientation Picnic, marking the start of their Plattsburg journey.
  • Water Safety talks will be delivered to students – thank you to Miss Jasmine for organising this important program to keep our kids safe and aware around water.
Our school values continue to be a focus every single day – in classrooms, on the playground, and in everything we do. I am proud of how our students are embracing these values and demonstrating respect, responsibility, and excellence in their daily actions.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more about what’s happening at Plattsburg, please contact our school office.

Regards,

Dave Hopson

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminder

A reminder that all students are expected to enter the school gates in the morning after drop-off. Students should not be at Federal Park before school or after school without direct parental supervision.

Our school day concludes at 3.00 p.m. and is our pick-up time for all students. We offer bus, kiss-and-ride, and crossing options for home-time pick-up.

Please keep communication with the office open if there is a change for your child's home time pick up.

If a student has not been collected after 3:00 p.m., they will need to wait in our school office until a family member arrives and buzzes at Gate 2 for collection.

Please be aware that staff are involved in a range of professional learning, staff, stage and executive meetings that occur after 3.00 p.m. Your support in ensuring prompt pick up is greatly appreciated.

Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Arriving to Class On Time

A reminder that our Breakfast Club is open every morning from 8:30–8:55am. This is a great opportunity for students to start the day with a healthy meal and connect with friends before school begins.

We encourage all students to make use of this wonderful facility—just remember to be finished and ready to head straight into class for a 9:00am start. It's important that no learning time is lost, and we want all our students to make the most of every moment in the classroom.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students be ready for a successful day of learning.

In The Classroom

K-2 STEM

K-2 STEM challenge was a big success, the students had to build a capsule to protect a falling egg! Most were successful, well done to all!

Children's University

We would like to thank the ladies from the University of Newcastle who came to Plattsburg to perform a Science Week Workshop with the Children's University students. The students had a wonderful time learning about binary code and creating edible coded bracelets.

Stage 3 Wellbeing Group

Stage 3 Wellbeing Group enjoyed their second session, and it was another fantastic experience!

Students joined Miss Bailey to design and create their own bracelets and jewellery pieces, expressing their creativity while sharing lots of laughter and positive conversations. We're excited to see the group continue to grow in confidence, build friendships, and develop a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

Clothing Pool Donations

If your child had a growth spurt and no longer fit into some of their uniforms, you can donate them back to the Clothing Pool. If the uniforms are still in good condition, please drop them into the office anytime.

Sport

Crossroads Zone Athletics Carnival

Our athletics team braved some very wet conditions yesterday at the Crossroads Zone Athletics Carnival, and they should be incredibly proud of their determination and effort!

Special congratulations to Tyler G, Jacob L, Rakoch A, and Osha S for qualifying for the finals in the 100m and/or 200m events, just narrowly missing out on regionals!

Our Senior Boys relay team also ran a tight race finishing in the top three of their heat.

A huge shout-out to Harry N who powered through a tough 800m race, finishing 3rd and securing a spot at Regionals next month! Good Luck Harry!
