Newsletter #1 2026

Point Lonsdale Primary School

Thursday 2nd April

From Mrs A's Desk

It’s a wrap!

Today is the final day of Term 1 2026 and wow has it been busy?!

We have welcomed new students and families across all teams in addition to the 22 Foundation students beginning their school journey. We have enjoyed (or not) hot day timetables, wet day timetables, windy day timetables and thank goodness lots of normal days too!

Years 3-6 have all had the opportunity to go on camps to extend their learning either Civics and Citizenship knowledge for 5/6 or meeting personal and physical challenges at years 3/4. Each group had a blast and strengthened relationships with their peers and teachers while learning in a non-school environment.

Camps don’t happen without parental support and trust, and we would love to give big shoutouts to Adrian, Marcus, Cat, Sam and Darrin who ventured away with us. No doubt they each have a fresh insight about just what a camp entails.

The Nippers in School Program was another highlight and an example of the parents, school and community working together to deliver a very special and unique to ‘Lonnie’ program. We weathered all sorts of conditions in the water and on the beach, but all came away having experienced something special.  We look forward to Nippers in 2027 and training up even more parents to ensure that this community-based initiative is sustainable well into the future.

A big Thank you to Catherine and Andrea for organizing last week’s celebratory thank you event and to all who jumped on board to cook the sausages.

Term 1 is always special as we welcome new Foundation students and their families to PLPS. Our transition program ensures a smooth start and Day 1 is always a surprise whether the lack of tears, the numbers of tissues in use or the questions and comaraderie evident at the Parent morning tea.

Getting buddies is a highlight and the matchmaking skills of teachers are most evident when the pairs meet for the first time and as we see the relationships develop through so many activities. A special session was when the Years 5/6 students presented and read their beautifully written and crafted books to their buddies. It truly was a smiles and laughter session.

Congratulations to Aio Kidd who was selected to participate in VHAP Maths this term and Isabella Finanzio VHAP Writing in Term 2. Well done to these High Achievers.

It’s been so busy sometimes a shopping list is the best way to remind us of all that has been achieved in just 10 weeks.

What's coming up in Term 2!

Already we know that PLPS has been accepted to present a workshop at the statewide Principal’s Conference on School Culture and that we are hosting student teachers on practicums. We have some parent information sessions in planning ,with the team at Batforce, focusing on Chldren's Anxiety and Resilience.

We will also be working on a "bugs, birds and butterflies "project with gardens for wildlife and have been successful in our application to be part of this year’s Kids Teaching Kids (Surf Coast) Program focusing on environmental issues.

Our Student and Culture Leaders have lots of ideas for Term 2 activities. and a huge thankyou to them for organising today's Easter Hat Parade. Finally, we have ANZAC Day sorted with the Youth Address in drafted form and names submitted to the RSL along with the names of Wreath Bearers for the Dawn and Point Lonsdale services. This year we will have our own ANZAC Service on April 24th with a Youth Address too.
