TERM 4 WEEK 10, 2023

A Message from the Principal

Dear parents/carers,

As the term comes to a close we are  saying goodbye to our Year 6 students, students who are leaving and to some families whose youngest child is finishing Year 6. It is always sad to farewell students and families but we treasure the opportunity we have to contribute to each child's learning and development. Good luck and best wishes to those families who are moving on.

We are saying  goodbye to a number of staff this year. Mrs Dragotta has been successful in obtaining a transfer to Woronora Public School. Mrs Dragotta has been at Pendle Hill for a number of years. Her expertise and skill will be greatly missed. We thank her for her contributions and wish her good luck in her new role.  Ms Rubino has worked here as a temporary teacher for several years and has been successful at interview for a position at Girraween Public School. Ms Rubino has been a wonderful addition to our staff and we wish her all the best in her new role. Ms Chui is taking up a temporary position at another school and we thank her for her great contribution to our staff  and wish her all the best as she moves onto her new position. Both Ms Ronquillo and Ms MacKenzie are welcoming new babies and will be on leave next year. We wish them lots of luck and joy.

We have two new staff transferring from other schools and have had several long term temporary staff transition to permanent roles at Pendle Hill PS.

We have finalised our canteen tender and hope to have the canteen up and running early next year.

Our PSSA zone has advised that they have not able to organise buses for the weekly PSSA competition next year. They plan to hold gala days each term to provide students with the opportunity to participate in  a variety of team sports.

We have made the decision to combine our swimming carnival with Wentworthville Public School. We will invite those students who are able to swim the required distance to participate to attend. We will not hold a novelty carnival. There are new supervision requirements which make it very difficult for us to provide the level of supervision required without combining with Wentworthville PS.

Congratulations to our 2024 School Captains and Vice Captains.

School Captains Meek and Thanuska

Vice Captains Nadia and Divya

Thank you to our 2023 captains who have done a wonderful job as student leaders this year. Thank you Thomas, Vrishti, Aarna and Keshav.

Wishing all of our families a restful holiday.

regards

Gabrielle Buczynski

A reminder that students are not permitted to bring their mobile phones to school. This is in line with the Department of Education Policy. If your child requires a phone for safe travel to and from school, you need to advise us in writing or complete the mobile device form at the office. The phone must be handed in at the office when your child arrives at school at will be returned at the end of the day.

We appreciate your assistance.

Library Bags

Just a reminder that when your child has their library day, they need a library bag.

The uniform shop has a very sturdy library bag for sale, this type of bag is preferred.

Why Is Attendance at School Important?

Regular attendance at school is important for students at our school to reach their full potential.

We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick, have COVID symptoms or are absent for a justified reason.

Protecting the wellbeing of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school either before or on the day that your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.

We know that school is the best place to learn and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.

Missing a day here or there may not seem like much but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning more than you think. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, 8 weeks of lessons and 2.5 years over their school life lost.
