Crafers Primary School

Newsletter 16 February 2024

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers

The new year is in full swing and suddenly not seeming quite so new as routines are established and followed, timetables settle and the children begin to feel their new classrooms are a place to belong. Both our new staff and students have enjoyed a warm, Crafers welcome and are enjoying the time they have spent here with us.

As announced earlier in the week, we have elected our Student Leaders for 2024. Whilst these 8 students were successful in securing these positions, a great many students found the courage to deliver speeches to their peers and teachers. It was terrific to listen to the students speak about their years at Crafers and the effect past Captains and Leaders have had on them, and what they hope to influence in their final year. In my mind this is beautifully juxtaposed with our first Assembly where our new Receptions shared drawings of their learning bears and received welcome certificates. Each of these new students stood bravely in front of the whole school and plenty of parents - I expect they will be making speeches before we know it!

In my welcome letter, I mentioned a number of things such as carpark safety and uniform pride. Both, I might say have been going very well - thank you! One thing I should have mentioned, however, it the school's position on dogs being on site. As a great dog lover myself with two at home, I completely understand the urge to bring our furry friends, however our school is a dog free site which means they cannot enter the grounds at drop off, pick up or throughout the day. The exception of course, there has to be one, is when the children would like to bring a new puppy for sharing. Even I can't resist that and Carol would be heartbroken if I tried. If you are in this situation, please communicate with your child's class teacher and make a plan for the day. If children are fearful, they can certainly spend a few minutes with Ebony or in a neighbouring class until the coast is clear. I must say though, even I find it cheerful when our pooches pass through kiss n drop with noses out the window. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Kind regards

Chan

An update from Ebony

The start of the year, as always, has brought with it many big emotions for students, families and teachers. New beginnings and unknown experiences can evoke big feelings in all of us. It has been such a great encouragement to see how all students have embraced their change in classes and the new challenges it brings.

I love the community at Crafers and appreciate the way in which I can support people across the community. It is a role I love and feel very lucky to have. As such, I thought it was an appropriate time to remind you all of my role within the school and the ways in which I can support you and your child/ren.

Pastoral Care Workers provide pastoral and practical support to:

  • STUDENTS by listening, taking an interest in them, being involved with their daily lives, facilitating activities and being a positive role model
  • STAFF by being a supporting resource, providing a listening ear, encouragement, friendship and supporting their personal wellbeing
  • FAMILIES by being a person of contact, listening, caring, providing support in times of crisis as well as being a referral to support services
  • COMMUNITY by being a link between churches, the wider community and the school community

Many of you would have received communication from the office this week regarding a form for your children to work with me if the need arises in an ongoing manner. Please return this to help me help your children in the most seamless way possible.

If you would like to be in touch to talk with me at any point, please either contact the office or send me an email at ebony.grigg418@schools.sa.edu.au
