Reynella Primary School Grapevine

Term 2, Week 10 | 2023

From the Leadership Team

As we close the doors on another term in 2023, we have much to reflect on and be proud of as a community of staff, students and families. Whilst we were hit by a wave of Influenza A running through our classes for majority of the term, impacted by a shortage of staff and relief teachers, we still battled on and had a highly busy, but very successful term. I would like to thank our incredible staff for their continued flexibility and resilience during this unexpected turbulent time and for continuing to go over and above to make Reynella the best it can be, ensuring that our children have much opportunity to undertake and showcase their learning in a variety of ways.

Highlights of our term included:

·       Year 6 Camp

·       Swimming

·       The Bee Musical

·       Knockout Netball and Soccer

·       Choir Assessment

·       Reconciliation Week

·       Kidz Biz

·       Biggest Morning Tea - $1450 in total raised!

We also again hosted 3 pre-service teachers in A5, B1 and D6; Mr Higgins, Miss Higg and Miss Waters, who undertook their final university placement before they graduate into the teaching profession. It is always so valuable for our school to host pre-service teachers, as they bring with them such passion and enthusiasm and have lots to offer our students. We know that our children were sad to see them go, but we wish them all the best as they begin their new teaching careers. Next term, we welcome two new pre-service teachers in F7 and D1, from Flinders University in their third year of study.

Next term, we look forward to another whole school STEM Inquiry, considering the question, ‘what makes a place liveable?’. Classes are already well underway working through the Reynella Solution Cycle and on their projects, which I know will again prove to be both inspirational and innovative! Please save the date for our STEM Showcase on the 21st of September!

Please be advised that with approval from our Governing Council, our Term 3 Pupil Free Day has been changed. This day will now be held on Monday 4th September, to coincide with the Adelaide Show. This day will provide opportunity for our staff to continue our focus on differentiation and student feedback, and we endeavour that this new date will provide time for our community to take a break and reset during what we know will another busy term.

Thank you for all of your continued support this term. Have a wonderful, enjoyable and restful school holiday break and we look forward to seeing you ready for Term 3.

Introducing REPORTiT by Impromation

REPORTiT is our new digital platform for school reports. At the end of term 2, families will be able to access their child’s mid-year report through the Impromation online portal. The website is simple and intuitive and step-by-step instructions will be sent in advance.  Thank you in advance for embracing this transition and remember, we are here to help!

Learning with A6

Living Things Experiment

This term in A6, we have been learning all about living things. We have been exploring what living things need to survive, particularly what plants need to survive. As a part of our inquiry we questioned what would happen to a plant if their "needs" were not met. We decided to conduct an experiment as a class to find out. First, we planted 4 of the same plants into different eco-friendly pots. Then, we decided the 4 conditions we wanted to test our plants in, these were; providing them with sunlight and water, exposing them only to sunlight, giving them solely water, and depriving them of both sunlight and water. We then recorded our observations of what these plants looked like on day one and made predictions on what these plants might look like after a week in their conditioned environments. Following the week-long experiment, we carefully examined each plant and recorded our observations. After only a week it was clear to see that in order for a plant to survive it needs: good soil, air, water and sunlight.

Learning with D1

THE BEE MUSICAL

Congratulations to classes A1, A2, A5, A6, B1, B2, B6 & B7 and their teachers for putting on such fantastic performances of The Bee Musical (Out of the Ark Music) on June 8th. What a great experience for our younger students!

Preparations started during Term 1 with the students learning the songs and auditioning for lines and lead roles. The rehearsal schedule ramped up in Term 2 culminating in a dress rehearsal performed for the Year 3-6 classes and three performances for family and friends on the big day.

Well done all.

Hello CU families,

An important diary date.

Reynella Primary School’s allocated graduation date is Tuesday, 7th November 2023.  Graduates arrive at Bonython Hall by 5.15pm in readiness for the ceremony to commence sharply at 6:00pm and conclude by approximately 7:30pm.  More details will be sent closer to the date.

Hours must be finalised by the last week of term 3 (25-29th October).  Amy Sheppard and I will be hosting a Sunday session where families can come to school and we can help with uploading hours to the portal.

Please look out for an email from me regarding how to make the most of the school holidays to accumulate hours and the different review forms that are needed.

I will be available every Monday afternoon after school in the library for students to bring their passports, review forms and learning evidence for me to assess.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions.

Cheers, Fiona

Wellbeing

Hello Reynella families,

Term 2 has been filled with many great events and learning opportunities.  Everyone is ready for a break from routine for a week or so.  Why are holidays important, not just for children but adults and families too?

1.    Rest and Relaxation: School can be an intense and demanding environment, even for our young learners. The July school holidays offer an opportunity for students to recharge their batteries, both physically and mentally. Taking time off from the regular school routine allows them to relax, rejuvenate, and return to school with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

2.    Exploration and Creativity: During the holidays, children have the freedom to explore their interests and engage in activities that may not be feasible during the busy school term. Whether it's pursuing a new hobby, attending workshops, or simply indulging in unstructured play, these experiences foster creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

3.    Family Bonding Time: The July holidays often coincide with a period when parents and guardians can take time off work. This aligns perfectly with the opportunity to spend quality time together as a family. Building stronger bonds, creating cherished memories, and engaging in activities as a unit contribute to a child's overall emotional well-being and sense of belonging.

4.    Broadening Horizons: Travelling and exploring new places can be an excellent way for students to broaden their horizons and learn about different cultures, history, and environments. Whether it's a local adventure or a journey further afield, these experiences can cultivate curiosity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

5.    Independent Learning: The July school holidays present an ideal time for students to engage in independent learning. Encouraging children to read books of their choice, explore educational apps, or pursue personal projects nurtures their love for learning and instils a sense of autonomy in their educational journey.

6.    Physical Activity and Wellbeing: Regular exercise and physical activity are essential for children's overall health and well-being. The school holidays provide an opportunity to engage in activities, participate in sports programs, and spend time in nature. Physical exercise not only improves fitness levels but also enhances cognitive function and concentration.

7.    Time for Reflection and Goal-Setting: The break from the school routine allows students to reflect on their achievements, strengths, and areas for growth. They can set goals for the upcoming term and develop action plans to work towards them. This practice fosters a growth mindset, self-awareness, and a sense of personal responsibility for their learning.

I encourage you to embrace this time with your children, nurture their passions, and create memorable experiences that will benefit them for years to come.

We wish you all a safe, enjoyable, and fulfilling school holiday period. We look forward to welcoming our students back with open arms, ready to embark on another exciting term of learning and growth.

Cheers,

Fiona

Volunteers Needed

Our canteen staff would love to speak to any parents or grandparents who would like to consider volunteering in 2023.

Jillian (Canteen Manager) is happy to answer any questions you might have and discuss options for days and times you are available to volunteer.

They are very flexible with times: if you can only volunteer for 1 day a fortnight or month, that would be a big help to assist our staff to prepare food for our hungry students.
