Newsletter: Term 4 Issue 8

Principal's Message

Welcome to the final school newsletter for 2025. I really do not know how we are at the end of another awesome, academic year!

Recently, we were very privileged to have many of our students nominate themselves for the Student Leadership team for 2026. Congratulations to all students who stood up and delivered speeches so confidently in front of your peers, teachers, and members of the community. The 2026 Student Leadership team will be announced at our End of Year Concert this week. Every student should be immensely proud of their efforts. I know I was super impressed. Congratulations to you all. As we know, not everyone can be elected. Parents, please have these conversations with your child/children now and leading up to our concert night.

Last week we had our Kindergarten Parent information session for our new intake of students. Thank you to all who took the time to come along. A special thank you to all our special guest speakers for giving up your time and speaking to our future NPS families. Two different orientation sessions have been organised, so our Kindergarten students have a little taste of the activities and start to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings. The last orientation session will be held this Wednesday.

Our Year 6 students have had 2 full orientation days at NSHS. This was a fabulous way for the students to learn how to navigate themselves around the high school grounds, mix with students from SNPS and experience the daily life of high school student. A massive thankyou to the high school for providing this opportunity for our students. From all reports, the students are saying that high school is awesome. Let’s hope that this positivity continues into 2026.

This week, Thursday 11 December, commencing at 6:30pm will be hosting our whole school K-6 end of year concert "Disney". Should the weather be unkind to us, we will reschedule the concert to Friday 12 December, commencing at 8:30am. All book award winners from PP – Year 5, and the Student Leadership Team for 2026 will be announced on the night.

Tuesday 16 December, commencing at 9:00am is the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. Year 6 students will receive their awards on this day, not at the end of year concert. Following the ceremony, Graduates and their parents/carers will be invited to join in the school library for a small celebration. Following the celebration, Year 6 students will have a fun day at Newman Aquatic Centre. We look forward to celebrating our Year 6 students!

Class lists for 2026: Student class lists will be posted up on the school notice board near the canteen on Thursday 18 December 2025. It is vitally important for everyone to be aware; if we have a large number of enrolments in January, this may affect our current school structure. I may then need to change the structure before school commences in 2026.

I cannot thank all the staff enough for their time and dedication to the students and school. It will be exciting to see the majority of our current teaching staff in 2026. Newman Primary School only has one of our teachers leaving at the end of this year. On behalf of the school community, I would like to thank Mrs Stacey Price for the short-time she has been part of our team.

I would also like to thank our School Board Chair – JD Muller and the amazing board members for your continued support throughout the year.

Finally, a massive thank you to JD Muller, P&C President and all the members of the P&C committee. It has been a busy and productive year. I cannot wait to see what 2026 has in stall for our students!

It is the time of year for families to leave our school community. I am confident that you will take great memories of Newman Primary School with you - good luck wherever you are going. A massive thank you, to you as the families who have supported your child and partnered with the school during the year to make it successful.

On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish everyone safe travels, an enjoyable break, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The last school day for 2025 is Thursday 18 December.

We look forward to seeing all students on Monday 2 February 2026, to commence the new school year!

Student Leader Speeches

Students proudly delivered their leadership speeches for 2026. Many stepped outside their comfort zones, speaking in front of their peers and pushing past their nerves. Their confidence, courage, and preparation were clear as they shared their ideas and aspirations for the year ahead.

ELP 0-4 Program

Newman Primary school runs an on-school site Early Learning Program for children and families aged 0-4.  This program targets children’s readiness for school by offering a coordinated approach to engage children and their families with important services and early intervention to address areas of developmental concern.

Come down to Newman Primary Room K9 in the Early Childhood area on Thursday and Friday from 8:00am - 10:00am to meet Miss Lisa Mahoney and learn about the importance that language plays in your child’s developmental journey.

This program is proudly sponsored by BHP and there is no cost to families who wish to attend.

Attendance and Absences

Newman Primary School transitioned to a new system, all Attendance SMS messages will now come from a new contact NewmanPS.

The new system will notify parents, guardians, and caregivers of unexplained absences or late arrivals.

The new system started on the 4 June.  It will send parents an SMS on their mobile phone when their child is marked absent without an explanation.

Parents should delete the old Absentee SMS number to avoid confusion.

Parents will get this SMS with the link if their child is marked absent without explanation.  Parents should use this link to add attendance about their child's absence.  Please note that the link will be valid for only 48 hours.  Do not reply to this message via SMS as the school will not receive this.  The school will receive your response via the link provided.  Ensure the phone is connected to an internet data plan or has WIFI access to use the hyperlink.

If your child is absent again without prior explanation, parents will get a new one-time link.

If parents do not use the link provided, they can notify the school of their child's absence via telephone or email (newman.ps@education.wa.edu.au).

If you have any questions regarding the Attendance SMS Communication, please call 9154 3900.
