Principal's Report

Hello Everyone,

We have had a huge amount of sporting events these past few weeks and it has been absolutely awesome to see all of the students doing their absolute best in a number of different sporting disciplines! It was amazing to see Mitchell House come away with the Athletics day honours by only ONE point! Yesterday the grade 3-6s went down to Dixon Field to compete in the MMPS Cross Country Trials. The 8-10 age group ran the 2km course while the 10-12s ran a 3km course. A big congratulations to each and every student who gave it their all yesterday, cross country running is not at all an easy thing and to see the determination towards the end of their running was amazing.

Last Friday saw our first Working Bee of the year take place. A big thank you to Amy and FOS who put so much time into preparing the day! It is really evident that working bees such as last Friday’s make such a huge difference to, not only the aesthetic of the school but also its functionality. Many hands make light work!

MMPS has been lucky enough to secure registration spots for a Webinar on School Refusal. The webinar is being run by Dr. Billy Garvey who is a developmental paediatrician who specialises in child mental health and wellbeing. The webinar is tonight at 7PM and registration is still open at the following link:

Next week is our last week for the term. I cannot believe how quickly this term has disappeared and how full it has been! Our last week seems to continue that trend with a few big events coming up.

Monday the 25th, sees our first Colour Run take place. Students will be running a short course around the school grounds with a shorter course for junior students. On the day students will be required to bring with them a white (or light) coloured t shirt and a towel (for the car ride home). More information will follow shortly.

Friday the 28th of March is our last day of term and will be a very fun and busy day! We will be having a drum workshop incursion as well as our final assembly and Easter raffle. There is still plenty of time to donate towards our raffle, donation baskets are in your child’s classroom.

Our final assembly and Easter raffle will begin at 1:45PM in the school hall.

School will finish at 2:30PM

Many thanks,

Joe.

This week the grade 3s to 6s did Cross Country. The 8, 9 and 10 year olds did 2km and the 11, 12 and 13 year olds did 3km. I hope everyone had a good sleep because it was very tough. As most of you may know we had Athletics on the 7th of March and it was held at Dixon Field it was a really hot day, but everyone had fun and got a ribbon for their efforts. Thank You to all the parents that helped with the event. We couldn't have done it without you. Mitchell House came away with the win by only ONE point!

In the last week of term there will be so many fun activities for everyone to participate in. We will have a Colour run on the 25th of March plus a pop up cafe you will need to wear a white top. The run will be held at 3:00PM with a senior and junior course being set up around the school grounds.

There will be a Drum incursion and the Easter raffle on the last day of term, the 28th of March. We still need Easter Raffle donations; you can find the donation baskets in your child’s classroom!

There was a working bee last Friday and a sausage sizzle. There were so many lovely people who came up to help clean up the school. Thank you to all the people who made our school a lot cleaner!

Thanks,

Eliana

Schools Out!

Harmony Week

Harmony Week is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it. The message of Harmony Week is everyone belongs. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.

For our school, we are celebrating Harmony week with a few events which you can see in the attached document. These celebrations create opportunities for all of us to think, talk about and recognise how our differences make Australia a great place to live.

School Sports

This week we completed our last school sports carnival, Cross Country Trials. All the grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 students who ran, should be all so proud of themselves. They showed great determination, perseverance and a healthy amount of competitiveness. Thank you again to our amazing parents, Claire, Phil, Sheryn, Derek, Sam, Mary-Rose, Gordana, David and Sadia for taking time out of their busy schedules to allow the morning to run so smoothly. Again, thank you to the fantastic staff, Mr Sonogon, Mr Flynn and Ms Probert for all their help pre, during, and post event. I will notify the students on Thursday who will be competing in the District Cross Country on Friday 19th April (first Friday of term 2) and parents will then receive a permission note via QKR. Even though we have completed our ‘school sporting events’, next term we will see (selected) students compete in a variety of district team sports such as, football, soccer and netball.

Have a great week everyone!
