ACQUAINTANCE NIGHT/AGM

This important event will be held on the evening of Tuesday 13 February. This year we are inviting families to the Hall at 5.30 – 6.00pm so we can introduce our staff, share our goals for 2024 and outline the exciting learning opportunities that lay ahead.

From 6.00 – 7.00pm we invite our students to take you to their classrooms; meet their teacher and learn about how their classroom operates including sharing their learner agreements.

Acquaintance Night will be followed by a short Annual General Meeting where the 2023 Annual Report will be tabled and Governing Council members elected. I would strongly encourage you to attend and nominate for Governing Council, as it is a great way to be involved in the school and develop a greater understanding of what we do and why we do it. There are only two meetings a term and won’t impinge on too much of your time. There will be a light supper provided for parents attending the AGM from 6.45pm.

A FEW REMINDERS

To ensure the school runs smoothly can you please remember:

o   Students are not allowed on school grounds until the 8.30am siren

o   The junior primary playground is not to be played on before school, by any children, including those who may just be visiting

o   Ensure you have signed up to Audiri, Qkr and SeeSaw so you don’t miss out on any information.

COVID

Unfortunately, COVID is starting to reappear across our school.  It’s very important that you notify us immediately if your child tests positive to COVID-19.

If a student or teacher in your child’s class tests positive for COVID-19, they will be deemed a classroom contact and the following will occur:

·         We will notify all parents in that class of the positive case

·         All students and children without symptoms can continue attending school. No rapid antigen testing will be required.

·         If your child develops any symptoms (even mild) please keep them home from school and get a COVID-19 test.

Welcome our new Deputy, Anthony Parina

Hello

My name is Anthony Parina and I have the privilege to be joining Reynella Primary School as the Acting Deputy Principal for the next 2 terms. I have a varied background in Education having experienced many different roles. For the last 3 years I have been in a Wellbeing & Inclusion Leadership position, previously having taught across Reception to year 7. My main experiences in teaching have been in Special Education and Junior Primary, including a short period as a Special Educator for the Education Department.

When supporting students, my personal goal is to focus on their abilities and what we can do to guide success and happiness. I feel that in education when schools and families work in partnership we can deliver strong results and success for our students. I plan to bring that spirit of collaboration to the way I engage with the Reynella Primary School community.

My home life is fairly busy with my 2 year old daughter running around with our 4 year old West Highland Terrier, they have started to team up and are much faster than me. My wife is also a primary school teacher and we have both been in education for around 17 years, we have a mutual love of stationery and laminating. I have a few hobbies which I enjoy when time allows, including, painting figurines, reading and audiobooks and all manner of gaming from boardgames to computer games. I also take great enjoyment from listening to music and almost always have something playing.

I look forward to getting to be part of this School and Community, please take the opportunity to say hello if you see me around.

Amazing A1!

School News

Welcome Luke Taylor

My name is Luke Taylor. I’m a dedicated and passionate teacher with a genuine love for education. My primary goal is to support students in their academic journey, fostering an environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential.

I understand the importance of creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment for students. My teaching philosophy revolves around building strong connections with each student, understanding their unique learning styles, and tailoring my approach to meet their needs.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. In my spare time, you will often find me on the tennis court. I enjoy getting out in nature, and staying active.

I am excited to be a part of the school community at Reynella Primary School, and look forward to what the future holds!

Welcome Lisa Allan

I have been teaching for 11 years in local schools, covering years 1-6. I live locally with my partner, 2 dogs and 2 horses. I enjoy being outdoors, horse riding and painting.

I love finding ways to inspire students to think outside the box and finding fun, hands-on ways to experience learning. I am looking forward to our 2024 STEM project and learning alongside new students and staff.

Wellbeing

The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety) is Australia’s independent regulator for online safety. They are dedicated to keeping people safer online.

They started operations in 2015 as the Children's eSafety Commissioner and are now at the forefront of the fight against online risks and harms faced by adults as well as children.

Their purpose is to help safeguard all Australians from online harms and to promote safer, more positive online experiences.

The eSafety website has an abundance of resources, ideas and advice to help you start the chat about online safety issues with your child.

There are downloadable resources, short videos and easy to read advice sheets to help you talk with your child about online safety.

Here is the link to the parent page of the website Parents | eSafety Commissioner

Children's University

Children’s University (CU) is up and running again this year. It is open to students in Years 3-6. We have chosen to offer this program to students at this school to help them develop a love of learning and open their eyes to the endless possibilities that await them in their futures.

The program is run by the University of Adelaide and rewards the students for making positive choices in their learning journey.  Children’s University members can participate in a range of activities in order to gain credit towards their awards.  At no point during the program will children be graded, rather they will be rewarded for the time and effort they put in.

Each participating student will receive their own Passport.  When the students complete an activity, they will receive a stamp/sticker in their Passport to record their participation.  The Passports are an important part of the program as they act as motivation for the students to get involved and allow them to compare their achievements with their friends.

Students need a minimum of 30 hours to be eligible to Graduate at the end of the school year.

Hours can be achieved through:

In-School Activities: Volunteering (library, road crossing, breakfast club), attending OSHC, Festival Choir (any practices or performances outside of school hours.) and school sporting clubs.

Learning Destinations: A Learning Destination is an organisation outside of school that has been identified as providing quality learning experiences by Children’s University. There are over 380 Learning Destinations throughout the state - the full list is on the CUA Portal at www.cuaportal.com.  Here you will find all the relevant details about the Learning Destination including the approved activities that they offer.

CU Portal: The CU Portal houses over 500 online activities and Learning Destinations in both Australia and New Zealand.  You can search for activities at Learning Destinations via different filters such as your location, area of interest and availability.  Completed online activities will be added to the physical Passport by the CU Coordinator.  Login details for the CU Portal are found on the inside of your Passport.

Regular Restricted Learning Destinations: If your child is already participating in activities outside of school (e.g. sports, music, choirs, council activities etc.) members are required to fill in a Review Form through the Portal in order to receive a maximum of 10 hours per activity per calendar year.

The reason we keep a record of the students’ activities is for the graduation ceremony at the end of each year. This is a celebration of the positive choices the students have made, and the effort the students have put into their own education.  The students will be invited to attend a Graduation Ceremony at The University of Adelaide in early Term 4.  The more hours they complete, the higher their graduation level and the more certificates they receive. Each student will have the opportunity to graduate once per year, and their hours roll over to the following year so that they can continue to build on their total.  The graduation ceremony is free of charge as part of the CU annual membership fee and guests will be invited to attend.

To sign up for CU, please use the QR code.  Payment can be made through Qkr from next week.

If you have any questions about Children’s University, please contact either Fiona Brown or Amy Sheppard.

Breakfast Club

Not this breakfast club unfortunately! Breakfast club is run every Thursday in the hall between   8:15-8:45am. The Student Wellbeing Action Team set up and run the morning, however we are in desperate need of parent helpers to assist with the dishes and packing up.  We currently have 80 students attending each week and we serve toast with either butter or jam, fresh and tinned fruit, apple juice along with plain, chocolate and strawberry milk.

If you would like to help at Breakfast club, please contact Fiona Brown.

Canteen News

Can you help?

Volunteers Needed

Our canteen staff would love to speak to any parents or grandparents who would like to consider volunteering.

Jillian (Canteen Manager) and her team are happy to answer any questions you might have and discuss options for days and times you are available to volunteer.

We are very flexible with times: if you can only volunteer for 1 day a fortnight or month, that would be a big help to assist our staff to prepare food for our hungry students.

Fundraising

For the last 10 years our Fundraising dollars have funded some BIG projects:

  • upgrading the oval canteen and storage sheds (this took over 10 years of fundraising)
  • landscaping our school grounds
  • supporting our PCW

Plans for 2024

  • the outdoor Learning Area shelter for our Mae Jemison Hub should be completed before the start of Term 2
  • continue to upgrade the Nature Play area
  • contribute to establishing an Indigenous Trail

Can you help?

Last year our Governing Council asked our school community for suggestions on what to fundraise for now. You can still give us your idea's by completing the Audiri eForm and we strongly encourage everyone to share their thoughts.

Go to: Audiri/Resources/Forms/Where to next? Fundaising

The form gives you the opportunity to:

  • make suggestions for projects to fundraise for and  ideas for fundraisers
  • volunteer for our Helpers Group

Fundraising Helpers List - how does it work?

Many of our Fundraising Team are no longer able to give as much time as they used to, so we need to grow our parent helpers list. To be effective, this needs to be a large group of people who we can text on an 'as needs basis' and the big plus for busy parents is, they don't need to go to any meetings!

We need help at many times of the day: during school, after school, in the evening, for 1/2 hour, an hour, a few hours, a day.

There is no obligation to help each time we ask by text, if you can't help, just reply with 'I'm unavailable this time'.

Please consider supporting the school in this way, by adding your name to the list.

You can email dl.0379.finance@schools.sa.edu.au if you would like more information on Fundraising at Reynella.
