Monday 1st May Term 2 Week 2

From the Principal

Welcome to Term 2:

Welcome back to Warners Bay for Term 2! I hope you all had a lovely break and are looking forward to the wonderful events we have planned for this term including Mother’s Day celebrations, our athletics carnival, the P&C disco and NAIDOC celebrations.

Student Success:

Thank you to all of our students who attended the Anzac Day Dawn Service and march last Tuesday. It was a wonderful turn out! Our school leaders then ran a beautiful Anzac service last Thursday to commemorate the day. Congratulations to Layla and Liam who competed in the State Swimming Championships at the end of last term. Both students did us proud and Liam is headed off to the national Championships for 50m backstroke. Our Kindergarten students enjoyed an incursion last week with visitors from the art gallery teaching them how to paint with watercolours. The junior rugby league team played in the Knights 9s competition last week and had an amazing day – Mr B was very proud of the whole team. Well done!

We welcome six student teachers to our school this term. Mr Uidhir will be working with 3/4Z, Miss Smith with 5/6I, Miss McIntosh with 5/6P, Miss Friend with 5/6L, Miss Belevska with 1Mc, Mr Balan with 2H. Welcome to Warners Bay! I am sure you will enjoy your time with us.

Mrs Ward will be on leave until the beginning of June and Mrs Zink will be the relieving assistant principal during her absence. If your child is in the support unit and you need to contact an Assistant Principal, please contact Mrs Zink. Mrs Zink will remaining teaching 3/4Z during this time.

The selective high school placement test will be held this Thursday 4 May. Parents should have received an email with details of where and when the test will be held and reminders for the day.

We wish our zone cross country competitors all the best when they compete this Friday. Please see individual notes for details of the day.

Aerobics state qualifier: Good luck to our aerobics teams who are competing in the state qualifier on Sunday 14 May. Our fingers are crossed that you make it through to the state finals!

Library News

Welcome back to Term 2!

Book Club Issue 3 will close on Wednesday, 10th May. The new issue was sent home with students last week with replacement copies available from the library should any have been lost in transit. All orders are processed after the closing date and are sent home with students as soon as they arrive at school, normally late the following week. Scholastic encourages parents/carers to place orders via their Loop Ordering System (Loop) but payments can also be made through the school’s office.

National Simultaneous Storytime is on Wednesday 24th May. This year’s story is The Speedy Sloth written by Rebecca Young and illustrated by Heath McKenzie. Scheduled for 11am, this can be problematic with our lunch break starting at 11.10am so classes will read the story during the day and will have activities available to compliment this great book.
