Burton Primary School Newsletter

Term 3, Week 1, 2023

From the Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

I would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our families and students at Burton for Term 3 and a special welcome to the new families that have started with us.

While parents and caregivers often don’t get a break during this time, I certainly hope that you got to spend some quality time together doing things that you enjoy.

Here are some of the highlights from our students about their holidays.

I went to Melbourne to see Lizzo in concert it was amazing. I also got a puppy, we named him Kevin (Ruby Rm 5)

I went to a birthday party and won 3 prizes and ate lots of yummy food. (Cailee Rm 6)

I went with my Nanny to the city on a train. We had lunch and I saw the pig statues in Rundle Mall. (Kohbe Rm 11)

My family got a puppy, we named him Jackie. He is really cute. (NuomBawi Rm 11)

I had to take my dog Ginny to the vet because she hurt herself, she is better now.(Lyla Rm 15)

This term is full of many events, please check out the calendar to see what is coming up.

Dear parents, guardians and carers

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

·         year of schooling

·         category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional

·         level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

·         formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools

·         consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools

·         develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.

Kind regards

Maria Appelt

100th day of school - Monday July 24th, 2023

The 100th day of school is an important milestone in the school year because it roughly marks the halfway point for the academic year.  At this point of the year, students can reflect on what they have learned so far, test their knowledge on their learning, and celebrate all of their hard work.

Below are some of the fun activities that some of our Foundation students from Rooms 16, 17 and 18 got up to on their 100th day of school.

School Photos have arrived!

School photos were sent home yesterday, Friday July 27th.  If your child did not receive your copy, please call the office on 8280 6277, or come in and speak with one of the staff members.
Thank you

ThinkUknow cyber safety and security presentation

Dear Parents/Caregivers

The internet is a great way to socialise, learn, work, play and be entertained — but with technology comes risks. Do you know how to keep your child safe online?

Families can sometimes find it hard to guide their children in using social media technologies safely. To support families at Burton we have organised community police officers from the Northern District Community Engagement Section to attend our school on the 15th of August from 6:00-7:30pm. The presentation will be held in the Hive and we invite all parents/caregivers to attend.

The presentation will focus on:

  • cyber safety, what to be aware of and how you can support your children to use online platforms safely,

  • processes to report inappropriate internet usage,

  • tools to gain a better understanding of the risks but also the positives of internet use.

If you are seeking further information on cybersafety we recommend you access the Think U Know website which is designed and available to support educators and parents in providing guidance and information on the safe and appropriate use of social media, online gaming and the internet. The website provides fact sheets and information packages which are also available on the website in a range of languages.

Lost and Found

All Lost and Found uniform items are now kept in "The Hive".  If your child has misplaced something, please check in there.

Please make sure to label all belongings in multiple places, this makes it much easier for our staff to be able to return the items to their owners.
