Teal Room News . . .

The Teal students have had a smooth start to the year, settling into the library for term 1.

The students have begun exploring the new kitchen by participating in the Oz Cooks Program. They enjoy and work hard to prepare meals for their peers and staff as well as learning how to work safely and hygienically within a kitchen environment.

This term we have been swimming at Blue Water Leisure Centre with the students building their confidence in the water and learning new skills including water safety and swimming development. All students are making progress in their swimming ability.

Caleb and Olivia are excited to be on the SRC. They are helping to organise this year’s fundraising and special days.

Looking ahead, we are excited to be in our new classroom next term.

Orange Room News . . .

Welcome to Orange Room!

Our students have been participating in fun and engaging learning activities that explore real life experiences and hands-on learning. We have been excited to come to school every day into our new classroom and have enjoyed decorating the walls with our fantastic work and ladybugs! Learning the layout of the new school has been exciting and our students are now well versed in moving around the space safely and efficiently to go to their specialist classes.

Phonics has taken off with a bang and students bounce through the door, eager to practice their sounds , handwriting and play a variety of word games.

Our mentor text this semester is ‘My Strange Shrinking Parents’ and covers themes of immigration and challenges in life. Our students are enjoying discussing the themes of the book and unpacking new vocabulary and exploring new learning about travel, other cultures and countries as well as different perspectives.

Orange Room students have been enthusiastic in our maths learning about number, money, time and probability and take part in daily learning that they can relate to the real world, such as make one dollar from a variety of coins and dividing a freshly baked tray of brownies so that everybody gets a fair share! (which ties in with our cooking sessions).

Specialist classes are always a highlight of the week with Art and PE with Kimmie, Woodwork with Shane and Science with Terhi, as well as the Swimming program at Blue Water. We are also keen to get involved in our new vegetable garden as part of our new horticulture learning that is running under the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program with Chris.

Happy learning!

From the Orange Room team - Chris, Caitlin, Kayla & Abbey
