Resilience Project

The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity. We will be implementing their evidence-based Teaching and Learning Program throughout our classrooms, staffroom and school community.

Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.

Medication Administration

Under updated MACS  guidelines,  a Medication Administration form is to be completed where parents/carers request that a student is administered medication at school or during a school activity.  The principal or their delegate must approve all ongoing and regular administration of medication (over the counter or prescription) by the school and in most cases, medication must not be administered to a child being educated and cared for unless this form is signed by an AHPRA registered medical practitioner or pharmacist.

The principal or delegate may agree to proceed with the authority of parent/guardian/carer signature without the authority of an AHPRA registered medical practitioner or pharmacist. This would only occur in rare cases, for example, short term (1-2 days) administration of over-the-counter medication at school or on off-site activities such as camps. No medication will be administered beyond the instruction on the original packaging unless recommended by an AHPRA registered medical practitioner or pharmacist.

Schools require written permission for students to self-administer their medication from parents/guardians, in consultation with registered medical or health practitioners to determine appropriate age and situation under which the student can self-administer their medication.

Parents/carers must ensure that medication brought to the school is in its original package with original labels. Please note, school staff will seek emergency medical assistance if there are concerns about a student’s condition following the administration of medication.

A Prayer for When I am Sad

God, I am sad. But You are good, and You are there. You listen to me when I cry. I can cry to You and tell You what is wrong. Even when I don’t know what to say, I can just pray, “Help me, God, I’m so sad.” You promise that whatever I am going through, You will be there. Thank You for always loving me, even when I am really sad. Thank You for this day, even though it’s not been the best day. Show me how to cheer up. Help me to be happy. Help me to see and remember all of the good things You have blessed my life with, and dry my tears. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Parish News

Parish Newsletter Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February

The First Reading, from Genesis, and the Gospel this week need to be looked at together. In the Genesis reading, God has just wiped clean the earth and is ready to re-establish the relationship with humanity through Noah and his family. In the short gospel passage, Jesus enters the wilderness as a time of preparation and renewal, ready to embark on his mission of re-establishing the relationship between God and humanity. In both readings there is a sense of a fresh start – a clean slate – for humankind. It is a clear indication of God’s commitment to humanity, even when we have totally distanced ourselves from God and forgotten about keeping up our part of the relationship, God is willing to make a clean start of it all again. Both readings offer a reminder of God’s constant desire for us to be in right relationship with God and with the world. The presence of Jesus in the world was as clear a signal as the rainbow in the sky that God was willing to give us another go – give us a chance to again see God with new eyes and new understanding. In the gospel passage, we have a picture of Jesus preparing himself for his public ministry. He takes himself out into the wilderness, away from all that he has known until this time, to reflect on his life so far and this next vital stage that he is about to enter. In the wilderness, Jesus is tempted. He has to face his own doubts and demons before he sets off on the road of his public ministry. When he leaves the desert wilderness and enters back into Galilee he immediately begins to preach and, in the first words accredited to him in this gospel, Jesus announces that the kingdom of God is at hand and it’s time to repent and believe. It’s a call to open your eyes and get with the program!
