A message from Julie

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of the second term. This term feels like it has moved quickly, but I know there are many students and families who feel ready for the break in routine. It will be nice to move a bit slower over the next two weeks, especially as the mornings have been so cold.

The end of Term 2 has us saying goodbye to some of our teaching team. We farewell Jackie Signorello, who has been working in P8. Jackie is moving on to another school, and Niki Kenyon will be the full time teacher in P8 from next term. Sherry Dong, who has been teaching Japanese and working in P2 is also finishing up with us and Anja Rees who has worked in our Special Options classes is heading off on Maternity leave. We wish Jackie, Sherry and Anja the best of luck on their new adventures. We will introduce our new teachers at the beginning of Term 3.

We also have a few students and families heading off to new schools in the new term.  We wish you all the best and thank you for being part of the amazing Dernancourt Community.

I hope you all have a warm and restful break with your families, and I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 3.

Julie

Garden Club News

Our Garden club helpers this week were Erin P10, Jordyn P3, Lucas P7, Mia P4, Charlie J3 and Isla P4. We had to split our time gardening over two weeks due to the weather but were able to get some weeding and planting done. Our group planted some Swan River Daisies in the pots by the front office entrance. Hopefully after the holidays we’ll see some flowers starting to grow. We were also able to do some weeding in our raised garden beds. It’s great to see some capsicum, lettuce and flowers growing in that area.

SAPSASA Netball

Our school knockout SAPSASA Netball team travelled to St. Dominic’s Priory College on Wednesday of week 6 for their round 1 knockout. The girls were all pumped and excited as it was their last year being able to play, as everyone in the team were year 6’s. They started the day off great convincingly beating the first game opponent Gilles Street Primary 26-11. The day was going to get much tougher with the next opponent also winning their first game. Unfortunately, the girls were beaten 13-35 by Norwood Primary who went on to win the day. We were lucky enough to still have 1 game left and the girls wanted to make sure they finished on a high and with a good performance they beat St. Dominic’s 11-8 in their final game. Thank you to parents Nat and Larissa for helping transport the students and to Gabrielle for being our umpire for the day.

Kind Regards

District Netball

This year we had four year 6 girls picked to play for the Adelaide North East District Netball team during week 8. They were Ava Placanica, Grace Lynott, Liara Lumsden and Sunny Thomassen. We congratulate the girls on this massive achievement and hope others can continue in their footsteps being picked for our district teams.

SAPSASA Soccer

On Monday of week 9 our school SAPSASA Knockout Soccer team got on a bus and made the long journey to Mt. Barker for their round 1 knockout encounter. With rainy and cold weather predicted the team made sure to all bring their jumpers and a winning attitude. Arriving early allowed us to watch the other two teams play their first game and see what we were in for. We played Unity College in our first game winning 3-0. Everyone was super excited and celebrated every goal and saving tackle. Going into our second game we knew all we had to do was not lose and we would win the day. The second game we came out strong and defeated Mount Barker South Primary 7-0, which meant that Dernancourt has now progressed through to the second round which is to be played next term. We congratulate the team on their effort and wish them the best of luck in the next round. Game 1: Mount Barker South 0 – 5 Unity College Game 2: Dernancourt School 3 – 0 Unity College (Goal Scorers: Manraaj Singh, Dino Jasic, Lucas Kiener) Game 3: Mount Barker South 0 – 7 Dernancourt School (Goal Scorers: Chris Maddocks x2, Samson Ball, Dino Jasic, Willem Ansell, Shanmukh Singamsetty x2)

Kind Regards
